Not to mention, I help women manage their health and health care for a living! I have had a long standing chronic pain from an unfortunate pelvic injury in my youth. Since moving to the Carolinas - I have been in search for a provider to help me manage my care and pain. I thought I found the perfect place and that was a BIG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I called and spoke on the phone to make an appointment. I very deliberately explained that I would be 100% self pay and using my medical spending account. I would NOT be using insurance. The man on the phone explained an adjustment was $62 - okay, I can swing that. I came in for my appointment, the clerk asked for my driver's license and insurance card. I stated again, I would be self pay. I went in for the appointment - the doctor went over somethings and then said for the sake of time, he would do a partial adjustment and give me a taste of what appointments would be like in the future. When on my right side - my hip didn't adjust on his first attempt - he went of a second with more force. I walked out of the appointment feeling very emotional (this injury is something I've dealt with for 20 years) and unheard and dismissed. When the clerk went to check me out - she said $222 Excuse me? How? She said there is a $160 new patient fee. At NO point was it ever mentioned that I would be charged a new patient fee. It was NOT mentioned on the phone when I made the appointment. It was NOT mentioned when I checked in. I would NOT have made the appointment, had I known there would be a fee of that nature. I started balling. I don't have $160 extra to give. But - they took it anyway. And, then asked me to make another appointment. Um, No. Dishonest, not trustworthy and --- they are use to people pushing insurance. To say I felt disrespected and taken advantage is an understatement. Not to mention the following day and days later, I was in immense pain from the force of the Doctors second attempt to adjust my hip. Fortunately another care provider cared for me and got me back to a manageable place - for a reasonable cost. Not being upfront about your fees, especially when asked ahead of time and specifying self pay..., this is NOT okay. And, I no where received care or service to justify a $222 charge.
