I finally got the nerve to see a dentist after several traumatic experiences and after researching for months landed at Bend Family Dentistry. Under the care of Dr. Theda. I had decided on dentures after years of pain and she assured me this was something she could do. A full upper was done. She then told me my four front lower teeth had to go and she could make me a lower partial that looked like a retainer. So she extracted those as well. $8500.00 later she out right refused to finish my bottom partial. Her treatment coordinator simply replied to every question I had with " You have been referred to another dentist." Dr. Theda was paid in full for this work both by my insurance and in cash by me. I have no idea why she referred me. My insurance will not pay twice for same procedure and I am left withOUT four bottom front teeth. The office did offer me a refund but it was so little I can not make my mouth whole until I save enough money to pay for the copays at another dentist. I've been putting off this review as I get embarrassed just thinking about having to talk about a dentist. My teeth were broke off at very young age, back in the wondrous 70's. I can remember with great detail the pain. My permanent teeth didn't come in until 5-6 grades. I endured a mean old speech therapist for years. From then on I've had the morbid fear of dentists and would avoid seeking them at all costs, to the detriment of my health. Last year I had a wisdom tooth break, and while not painful, it had to come out. I was embarrassed beyond belief that I would finally have to have someone look at my teeth, let alone my nightmares about pain. I searched, and Bend Fam said they had sedative dentistry, which not to many offer. I started with a cleaning and exam. Everyone was so kind. I was not shamed for any lack of visits. They did a digital map of my teeth, along with some film. I'm a huge gagger, touch my tongue and I'm done. You are wearing the contents of my belly. Next visit was nitrous to take the edge off. A few needles which through the use of DR Kotzin's gentle, yet confident hands was easy. Tooth out, some new fillings in, done that visit. I did have a large filing from a previous dentist fall out years ago so they suggested a cap. (Must have blocked that visit out, don't remember getting a filling!) We tried the next visit, I couldn't do it. To many dang fingers in my mouth. No worries as I made an appointment with Dr Hester. I took a pill night before, morning of, wife drove me in, shook his hand, wife picked me up, slept rest of day. That's all I remember! Sooo easy! They made the Cap in house, no molds or waiting for a lab to make it and another visit to install. Needless to say, they have a client for life. If you have any doubts about being scared or shamed by previous dentists or have had other bad experiences, you really need to visit Bend Fam. My worst fears are now gone, and I feel at ease walking, sitting down, watching TV or listening to music while they clean away. P.S. pricing was very up front. I walked out each time with an estimate. I paid that amount every time I walked in. You pay ahead for the work. They let you know if there is more to be done. I had a money map of my entire work progress from day one. I was able to set aside enough money between visits. read more

If you hate to go to the dentist, go here. I have encountered nothing but cheerful, personable, efficient facilitators in the front office. I don't even mind paying the bill for they've already contacted insurance and know exactly how much I owe. The doctors - I've had an implant, cavity fill, and two crowns - are kind, knowledgeable, fast, and accommodating, always asking if I need a break or an extra rinse. While the office is run with the precision of a Swiss clock, I have never felt rushed or slighted in any way. I was in just today - a new crown didn't feel right and I was concerned about an infection. They took xrays and an exam of the tooth. No infection but it might sit a little high. Let's file some of the points. Ah. Better already. No charge. In and out. Bye. Couldn't have been any easier. Just got done at the dentist! Had a great experience. I have horrible dental anxiety and I also have cyclic vomiting syndrome that can be trigger by anxiety. They were so kind and so patient. They took their time to explain everything and make me comfortable. They are offering me sedation options for when I get some work done next visit and they are going to do the cleaning then since I can't handle that either. Lish (sorry if that's wrong!) was AMAZING and I can't remember the dentists name but she was a young female dr. They were both incredibly kind and knowledgeable. I couldn't be more grateful! We have been seeing Dr Hester and his wonderful staff for over 10 years. The office is comfortable and welcoming, and the staff at the front always greets with a smile. There is never any wondering whether anyone even noticed a client entered, as with some offices. Tiana is always a 10 - an excellent listener and problem-solver. She is very efficient and professional, with gentle caring hands. She can make teeth cleaning a fun experience. Dr Hester is great! Always listens and has never tried to offer unnecessary procedures. I cannot express enough how wonderful my first time visit was. I was so nervous as I broke 2 of my bottom teeth. I called the office and the girls in reception were absolutely the best ever. They made me feel totally calm and reassured me everything would be ok. I had a very bad experience years ago and hated going to any dentist after that. Yelp doesn't always know best, but it sure served us well today when we went to Bend Family Dentistry for the first time. They managed to fit my four year old kid in for a cleaning and check up on short notice, because I was worried about a potential dental issue. The hygienist had the perfect combo of kid-friendly techniques while not overdoing it or taking more time than needed, and was a pleasure to chat with as well as very experienced. The dentist wasn't rushed at all, was very knowledgeable and personable, and made sure to answer all of my questions and she even took down my email address for further follow up on a question I had. They serve all ages, but that doesn't mean they aren't even better than the pediatric-specific dentistry practices (their prices are certainly better than some pediatric practices in Bend...). I wish I could rate higher than 5 stars. I started off today with an X-Ray, Cleaning, and general preventative care for my teeth after not having been to a dentist for approximately 2 years. The cleaning experience was amazing, with a very comfortable environment, and an extremely friendly hygienist, Tianna. Tianna had my teeth feeling the cleanest they have ever been. I had my first Doctor visit with Dr. Grady. She was extremely friendly and answered every question I had for her regarding an unfortunate cavity which she discovered on my X-Ray. Luckily enough, I was able to get a SAME-DAY appointment scheduled to get it taken care of. My cavity appointment began with Chrisie, one of the fantastic Dental Assistants in the office. Chrisie could tell I was very nervous (though i'd never admit it, no matter what she tells you...) about this filling and honestly everything she said and did made me very comfortable. Chrisie used this numbing gel on the side where my cavity was and assured me I wouldn't feel a thing. At this point, I met Dr. Van Volkenburg (Dr. Haley is what she prefers). Dr Haley could also tell I was super nervous about this small little filling but assured me I was in control and if I felt any discomfort at all or needed a break to say something, wave, or just make a noise and she would stop. Needless to say, I DID NOT FEEL A THING. Dr. Haley is seriously skilled at what she does. The numbing injection was unbelievably well-placed and throughout the entire cavity drilling, smoothing, filling, and polishing I did not have any form of discomfort. At the end, Dr. Haley ensured everything felt normal with my teeth, ensured no high-spots were able to be discerned, and all was well and good in the world. Do not hesitate about choosing Bend Family Dentistry for any of your dental needs. They are all absolutely amazing. You honestly feel like family here. read more

My experience happened while we are selling our home in Bend. We are from WI and our move was to be closer to our daughter. In any case, although we are moving, Bend Family Dentistry took care of me with amazing speed and grace. I had broken off the back of my lower center tooth 10 years ago, and while the repair lasted 10 years, I was shocked when it came off with chewing. I felt very comfortable with this practice, and if I were staying in Bend, I would select them, again. They told me that the first treatment given me ten years ago was wonderful, and they wished me good luck going forward. How intelligently, gracious, thorough, and personally they treated me. I love Bend Family Dentistry. The entire staff is so wonderful and friendly you lose any nervousness you had as soon as you walk in the door. The hygienists all do great work and the the dentists are efficient and friendly. My husband and I always had Barb and we adore her. Though they aren't listed specifically as a pediatric dentist I took my two kids there starting when the youngest was 3. Miss Tiana takes care of all the kids and makes sure they don't have any kitty cats hiding in their teeth. My daughter is a very nervous child and while she still isn't 100% comfortable in the chair, she says, "I know Miss T will be nice to me". It helps that they get to choose a prize from the Prize Box when they are done. They have been flexible on which procedures we choose to do (minimal x-rays for example) and are awesome at working with our insurance. Can't recommend them enough. read more

Due to the impending failure and looseness of a 10-year old bridge (installed in California) and caps across the upper front teeth of my mouth, I knew I was soon to face a major dental procedure. I could not be happier to have chosen Dr. Hester and this amazing practice for the process that included four extractions, two implants with bone grafts, and the new "teeth". Every aspect, every stage of the process was performed professionally, flawlessly, friendly, and painless. Really. Even my recovery did not require, or even start to require any pain medication after the anesthetics wore off. The most painful part of the procedure is reading through all of the carefully worded descriptive Pre-Op information given to me a few weeks before the procedure. At least I didn't have to do it all in one sitting, but instead, at home where I could ponder, re-read, and take it in. There were no surprises when the big day came except that none of the scary things happened! The team, from the repeate sessions with the case manager until we knew for sure just what I wanted done and how much it would cost, to the able assistants (thanks, Susie), to the precision choreography the morning that the teeth were pulled, implants planted, bones grafted, and temporary caps placed, was fully committed and engaged in the success of my appointment. Make no mistake, this is a complicated procedure. The team did not miss a beat. Dr. Hester could not have been faster, cleaner, less intimidating, etc. Credit his management and experience for this fabulous, completely equipped facility. High tech dentistry is nothing like the one man shops that I grew up getting fillings from. I'll never go back. If you are facing some major...or minor, for that manner...dental work, I would highly recommend that you go in to their convenient location at the corner of Franklin and 3rd next to and above the ACE Hardware store and ask for a free consultation. I've been to the same hometown dentist for the last 20 years and I was hesitant to make a change. I have lived very far away from my hometown for quite some time, so I finally broke down and made an appointment with Bend Family Dentistry. Dr. Greg Jones and his assistant Susie were incredible. They were very attentive and wanted to listen to my entire dental history. As a new patient, this was very important to me. They offered additional information, but did not push or require a bunch of unnecessary services. They found out what was important to me and helped prioritize which items were imperative and others that I was concerned or interested in. The office admins, Stacey and Lori, were very welcoming and personable. They made me feel like I had been coming there for years. Stacey spent the time to strategize appointments and services as well as consider costs and insurance coverage. I did not at any time feel rushed or hurried through the process. Other dentists told us she'd need 4 separate visits; Dr. Miller did all four cavities in one visit, and we saved a lot of time and money because she was able to do this. Because of our awesome experience with Dr. Miller, I scheduled an appointment for myself for a cleaning and exam.
