I need cataract surgery, I had worked with Dr Dimmig at Bend Surgery Center and liked how his cases went and his skills. I called his office to make an appointment, the scheduler was very rude, she said have we seen you be for? I said yes, several years ago. (I have not lived in Bend for a few years). She said we don't have anything until November, her attitude was snotty. I went a head made an appointment because I like Dr. Dimmig. A few day later I discovered a new Doctor joined his clinic in March, so I called back thinking it might be faster to get in sooner. She again, told me the new doctor was booked out to November, Hmm, strange a new guy is booked out to November? I asked a friend to call and ask how far the doctors were scheduling out, my friend was told 3-4 months, I was with my friend when she called. It's a shame employees like her think they can represent the clinic with rudeness and lies. I had a great experience. Scheduling was super easy and they got me in fast. The care I had there did not seem rushed, and they answered all my questions. The staff was friendly and helpful starting with the front desk and then the eye exam followed by Dr. Stephanie Hoatson. I would definitely go back. Arrived today a little early for my 9 am appointment. Brought into an exam room right away and had the assitant do what they do. She left and said the doctor would be in. An hour and 15 minutes later I was still waiting, so I left. I mentioned to the front desk the fact that I sat in the exam room for an hour and a quarter waiting for the doctor and said somewhat jokingly I'll need to reschedule. She had the gall to ask if I wanted to reschedule now. Dr Banta called me and asked if I could come back and that he didn't realize that I was in the exam room. This office runs on time. Efficiency went right into testing by a some type of assistant, I don't even know what their title . . They were not introduced to me and what they are to the office. They just did all the eyecheck.. The ophthalmologist came in did not say anything about my check or what they saw or what they found. I asked a question and it was like I'm not here to answer your questions after barely 5 minutes they left the room. I walked out of there. Why did I even come here I had these different concerns about different things. They spent barely 5 minutes with me. If you're going to do testing, you should at least tell the patient. what's the test revealed At least spend a couple of minutes explaining what they found and the treatment . Worst service ever. No one listens. You'll get pushed through the process and no one in the office will ever bother to ask about what you need. Just another example of "speed medicine." I was treated like a medical object, not a person. A total waste of time and money. read more

I have been going to Bend Ophthalmology for about two years and have always had superb service. Phone calls are answered very promptly and professionally. Appointments are easily made. The technicians are quite knowledgeable and are very friendly and professional. The doctors are unhurried and ready to give a very thorough exam and answer all questions. I was having some issues with my eyes and vision and my friend recommended Dr. Stevens. I called to make an appointment and was told my issue could be handled by the optometrist and would cost less and I would be able get an appointment sooner. The office staff were very friendly and the Optometrist was very nice but I was not given any of the tests I've had at other optometrist 's exams. When I read the letters I had to strain but guessed a lot. She kind of blew me off and said I basically had 20/20 vision! She said I had a slight change and my script would change ever so slightly and didn't need to change my glasses unless I wanted to. I said Will it help ? She said maybe? I left still having trouble with my eyes and with a big bill. Months later I'm still having troubles seeing even with my glasses- blurred vision, blind spots, headaches from eye strain. My doctor recommends Dr Stevens. I call to make an appointment and the receptionist was soooooo rude. She kept cutting me off and talking over me when I was trying to ask a question about my insurance. It's not like I was talking a lot but her curtness kind of caught me off guard. The whole conversation probably lasted 4 minutes. Later when someone from the optical dept called returning a call that I had left a message , I cancelled that appointment. I found Dr. Stevens to be very thorough and he actually helped me with an ongoing cornea problem without having to resort to laser surgery (which was my last doctor's suggestion) - a special ointment used at night, that no one else had mentioned. Now I have a lens prescription that actually helps me to see better. I have a call back msg out to them right now so we'll see if that happens (as most of the poor reviews deal with office staff). Tho the wait can sometimes be trying. Dr. Stevens is very much worth the wait. He is a straight shooter & may come across as brash but he is very knowledgeable & is up to date on latest & newest technology. His m.a.' s are knowledgeable & helpful. My experience was unfortunate. Expectations were set during my daughters appointment that services would be covered under my insurance. I later received a bill for the entire service and received a denial from insurance as they were out of network and not covered. While I have learned to always check myself, it's not good business practice to set false expectations without verifying first. I would not recommend. read more

This place seems nice initially. Dr. Stevens entered the room blaring racist and political comments about Chinese people. It was quite confusing to find myself in a political debate during a medical exam. He made comments about my condition being "interesting" and about my age, which I feel it was so inappropriate. After leaving the office I realized I was not given the prescription. I was informed of a new appointment but when I called to cancel they couldn't even find it on the books. Called on a Thursday to schedule pre-op appointment for cataract surgery. The surgical coordinator was out of the office until Tuesday, so I was prompted to leave my name and phone for a return call. Waited all day Tuesday and never received call. So I phoned again late Tuesday afternoon and left my name and phone AGAIN. It has now been It has now been 8 days since my first call and I haven't heard a word. I do not beg doctor to allow me to be their patient. I came in for an eye exam and left with a torn retina repair. I'm grateful for the repair, however, my insurance was not helpful. I was responsible for over $1,300.00. I would appreciate it if this office would work to become associated with Care Credit, or offer a monthly payment plan to help. I was told by the billing office that I could make monthly payments but after six months my account would be turned over to a collection agency. I have made monthly payments of $150.00 for the last six months. I received a letter from Bend Ophthalmology stating my account was being turned over to the collection agency and this agency would be happy to receive my monthly payment of $150.00, but I would be assessed 9% interest on the balance until it was paid off. Even though I was happy with my doctor and the service he provided, I would like to have had financial options on a procedure that was unexpected and not cheap. read more

Dr. Dimmig is a wonderful doctor; knowledgable, friendly and thorough. He performed eyelid surgery on me and the results were amazing. I have also had experience with Dr. Bereen and Dr. Balcer, accompanying my mom on her visits; both provided her excellent care. My mom has had retinal surgery and has limited vision, and they provided us with resources to help improve her day to day activities. Mom also used their optical department and they, too, are fantastic. The doctors and their entire staff are friendly, helpful, and confident. Having been to another ophthalmology office in town, and having worn glasses since the age of 3, I have seen plenty of eye doctors. Bend Ophthalmology is where I will continue to visit for my eye care needs. I highly recommend them for any sort of vision care. read more
