If you've been looking for a dog park with plenty of dogs for your pup to socialize with, this is definitely one to check out! I've tried several local dog parks, and so far, Benicia Dog Park has had the most dogs. There's plenty of room for them to run and play, plus a little tunnel that my dog enjoys. My only concern is that the small-dog area isn't as nice or spacious as the larger-dog area. If you have a small dog, you may end up in the main area with bigger dogs, so just keep that in mind. The community park is a treasure! I walk almost every day. I enjoy seeing many of the same people and especially the dogs with their owners. The park department is visible and taking care of our park. Garbage is an ongoing problem. If everyone would help out by cleaning up after picnics, events it sure would help. I am going to be proactive and start picking up as I walk.One week ago a 50 year ? man on a e-bike was racing along on paved walkway, I did not see him coming and he almost hit me. NO bikes as noted on rules posted. People walking, children walking and along comes a blazing bike. Not safe! I enjoy walking, watching games, coaches coaching, kids in their game day uniform, parents, grandparents, friends sitting on the grass, stands, concessions, clean restrooms.,police walking, visible. Big slide park, a childhood staple of mine. Now I bring my little one to this park. Talk about a full-circle moment. This park has everything you'd want; several picnic tables, three different playground structures, volleyball on the grass, baseball field, disc golf course, walking trails for humans and dogs, the list goes on! Oh and you can't forget the iconic cement big slide! There's even a bathroom on site. I've been here for parties of all occasions. It's a great park for all your outdoor needs. Especially for the little ones to get the wiggles out! My toddler loved the playground designated for her age. If you plan on coming here, bring snacks, water, good walking shoes and maybe a picnic blanket if you want to lay on the grass. Coming here is a guaranteed good time. read more

Ever since we've moved into the area, we've been looking for a nice park to walk our dog at that has friendly dogs! This place is clean, fun, and well populated with nice people and nice dogs. It is always fun seeing the little league team plays but since it's Winter, the fields have been closed off. One day I eventually want to take the hiking trails to see where they lead. The small dog park is usually empty, but I hope more people bring their small pups into the park so my dog has friends to play with haha! This is such a nice place to walk around during a nice warm morning. Have your coffee with you too and you can walk multiple laps around the park! read more

So I came here by accident, I missed the message about a cancellation. However I was already in the park so I walked about and explored a bit. Cute community park with a lot of canine parents playing fetch or exercising their pet. I engaged with a few and felt my puppy uterus contracting to see all the happy doggies running about. Limited space for you and your furry child to play and have fun if you go at a time where it's busy. I visualized myself being a mommy to my future canine child. I thought of my last pet Scooter, a basset hound who looked at me in disdain when I tried to walk him. Probably a misnomer, I should have called him Brakes. Which he would do after attempting a half a block to walk him. I miss that dog, we had an honest relationship. Especially when I would give him a biscuit from a specialty store, he'd sniff it, nibble it, and spit it back out. I swear that dog was a cat in his past life. read more

It's also very clean and has a little bit of everything...tree lined, walking path, tucked in valley with a huge picnic area, playground, baseball and soccer fields, volleyball nets, skate park and dog park. The best part about this park is the long wide cement slide that not a lot of parks in the county have. This slide sets it apart from the rest and the reason kids have an extra fun time here! The park is huge and the playground is big with different kinds of equipment and structures that kids can use. Be sure to bring table covers. We planned the trip to this park last minute and we didn't have table covers. Be careful getting close to the naked tables as the sides of the tables are filled with rusty staples. The drive to get there was nice, too, with lots of beautiful homes and great scenery. Best place for a fun family time. read more

Gayle and I took recently her young Nephew and my Son to the Benicia Community Park to try out the Skateboard area. The Park itself is way on the North Side, so much so that we passed the former Exxon Refinery before we made one of the turns. There's a lot of territory here and the facilities include several sports fields, a dog park, ample playground and picnic space, lots of grass, the skate park, and a nice little tree-lined lane where we sat, talked, and waited for the Boys to finish. Aside from our bench perspective, that might have been it for the shade in what seems to be a very open air park. The City and the nearby School also do a good job of keeping this place clean, safe, and well maintained. read more

Fabulous dog park! Super clean and just the right size. All dogs were well behaved and there were seats for the owners.

Nice big park with plush green grass that has a good sized paved trail circling it for walking, running, and bike riding. They have good baseball/softball diamonds and soccer fields. Plus, they have a skate park, an inline hockey rink, a fenced dog park, a children's playground with a huge smooth cement slide and a frisbee golf course. In addition, they have a large area with picnic tables and barbecues for parties. Residents can rent one section of the area for $39 for the day and non-residents can rent one section for $113 for the day. Finding parking can be a little difficult at times if there are youth sport games taking place, but they have two big lots. So, you can eventually find a space or you can park on the street or at the nearby elementary school. One thing that is missing from the park, is a basketball court. Besides that, it's a great place to recreate. Lastly, there is a fun dirt trail that you can take over to nearby Lake Herman where you can see the occasional gopher snake or deer. read more

This park has damn near everything! I think 4 softball fields, a dog park, hockey rink/ skater park, skateboard/bike park, large playground for the kids, bbq's, rentable picnic areas, parking, walking/hiking trails. A big slide. It is very well kept up, clean and is in a nice part of town. I love coming here and playing the 9 hole disc golf course! I was so happy to see it installed. A Great relaxing area that is great for some mental clarity or some exercise to stay in shape.

I really like this park, but there's a HUGE problem with people not putting their dogs on leashes when they're walking on the paths in the park (I'm not talking about the dog park). There is a dog park there for a reason if you want to let Fido run all over the place. It is for the safety of the dogs and others (and other dogs on leashes) to have them on leashes. If you don't have your dogs on leashes, you have no control over them. I've seen multiple people with dogs off leash wandering around the park and not paying any attention to their dogs while they walk off somewhere. This lets their dogs free reign of the park, bothering other people, bothering other dogs (that are responsibly on leash), and taking dumps that the owner never notices or cares to clean up. I am really getting tired of this problem and there needs to be some enforcement of this by somebody. PLEASE, people; it's not that hard. Just put your dogs on leashes when on the paths. It's a rule for a reason! Otherwise, it is a fine park. But irresponsible people ruin it for everyone else. read more

What a great park this is! My kids had some soccer games here and afterwards they played at the park. It's clean, there is lots to do there for the kids and lots of tables and grills! You do have to reserve the tables for party's and stuff. My kids favorite was the big slide, they stayed on that most of the time we were there. They have bathrooms, which is AWESOME! Had my daughters 1st Birthday here. Would have been a perfect day. I ordered a jumper and it was set up right next to my party. Park management immediately came and said it needed to be removed. After my complaining saying somebody owes me $200. They finally agreed to moving the jumper. This was s total waste of money. The location it had to be moved to was clear across the park. Total waste of money and ruined my daughters special day. *****if your having a party and want a jumper it has to be approved by the city. Since no one told me I hope this helps. read more

My Cooper loves this park when the "in" dogs aren't around... It's a small park with little room to run the young dogs! And the best is the in group of about 10 dogs that control the place... gang up on the little dog and make sure we never go back! read more

This park is GINORMOUS. A year ago, we rescued a standard poodle from a family that lives in Benicia. We were driving up to Ft. Bragg, so we decided to stop here so the family could see their former dog. They still have a standard poodle and we now have 2. When we arrived, there was another big standard poodle also at the park. My dogs were in heaven. So much so, that our rescue totally ignored his former mom. The park was clean too. read more

The dog park here is absolutely amazing!! Its big, clean and they even have a separate area for smaller dogs. When I was there, there was only one other dog, but I was told that it is busy in the morning and after 5PM. There's plenty for the dogs to sniff and grass for them to lay on, plus there's trees for shade on those hot summer days. This is definitely one of the best dog parks on the East Bay. read more

One of the best parks in our area. We call this the Big Slide Park, WHY? Cuz there's a big slide there of course! This park has their own bbqs so you can get your grillin' on, playgrounds for the little ones, volleyball nets, basketball courts, etc. You can call and reserve to get one of the better areas here if you plan to have a party. I've been coming here for years now, but now a days it just seemed like this best kept secret park has let the secret out and there's alot more folks coming here. We come here to do our annual Easter egg hunt with the family and it's always fun! Wow what a great park - This park has so much space and so many things to do and the air up there is perfect. I came here with my brother, and folks and spent about 3 hours there; they have a 9 course frisbee golf course that is pretty well laid out and with a lot of natural challenges and a few baskets that just let you chuck the disc. They also have a dog park area for off leash fun for the four legged friends, and a playground for the little children. There was also a skate park - pretty decent one too, and a roller hockey ring. I think I also saw a dirt race track also while throwing my disc 200' over a bunch of brush... ok maybe 150'.... This is a wonderful location that families and young people alike should come and enjoy just walking around the 4 mile walkway. I might make this my go to place every time I'm up! Enjoy! read more

My review is primarily for the disc golf course, but I will say that the park itself is quite nice - spacious, a mixture of uses, and some cool views. The disc golf course starts out by letting you think that it's just a short and lame afterthought that loops around a baseball field. Then you get to hole #3 (or #2?) and suddenly it's a full on course with crazy elevation changes and bomber shots (a few at least!). It was insanely windy when I played, so a couple of the shots were tough. Might be worth skipping on a super high wind day. It's slightly challenging to know where the next tee so it pays to try to track down a map. It's a 9 hole course, but it's fun enough and long enough to make it well worth a trip out from farther away if you're looking for a new course. P.S. There's a pretty scary refinery a little ways away, so I was kind of wondering if people that live near hear are getting killed with air pollution. read more

Huge park with a huge slide. Crank equipped BBQ pits so you can lower or raise your meat above the heat. Tons of room for different groups of get togethers with a playground for the kidlets. Volleyball, basketball, baseball, and an open field for whatever else. Restrooms kept clean along with the whole park. I can ride the biggest roller coasters and handle the dizziest fair rides...but the one thing that truly scared me was going down the "big slide" backwards! When I was younger I had tried it a few times but the whoosh it gave my stomach made me decide I'd never do it again! Well ladies and gentlemen I'm glad to say that I have conquered my fear and went down backwards with my little brother...that is only after I made him do it first! (True story) In all seriousness this park is pretty awesome. The actual "park" part of the park is large and has plenty of things to keep kids busy. Its split into two sections; one for older children (8 - 20+) and another for the kids younger. The only thing the park seems to be missing is swings for the older kids. Its got the "car-seat" type swings on the younger kids side but only has a tire swing on the big kids side. P.S. Bring some cardboard for the big slide! read more

Ever since elementary school, I have come here for soccer, baseball, softball, parties, etc. A lot of space and lots to do recreationally, even for your pup! There's a skate park and the local favorite big slide. Facilities all function well with decent upkeep. what a great park, this is our biggest park in Benicia. within the community, we call it the "Big Slide" park. Huge slide that the kids ride down on with piece of cardboard. There are swings and monkey bars and other kid amenities available. There are alot of tables for BBqing. They have the big open flame BBQ pits that you can lower up an down. You can cook alot of meat at one time. Volleyball nets, Baseball fields, Soccer Fields, Dog Park, Skate park, hiking. You can even walk along a trail that will that will take you the Lake Herman. Many locals fish here. The baseball and soccer fields use the lights at night, for night games. The kids love playing under the lights. On Weekends and Holidays, this place is booming. Either sporting events or BBQing, or just enjoying the park in general. If the place gets filled up, parking can be a mess. But you can always park on the side streets. Will continue to visit and enjoy the nice Cali weather while out. read more

Love It...Love It...Love It...!!! First off, there is a ginormous concrete slide that the kids can spend hours sliding down. When we moved here my daughter asked "When will we get to go to the big slide park Mommy?" I thought "How amazing can this slide be, really?" So when we were ready to go my mother told me I should take a piece of cardboard or a blanket. When I asked why she said to me "I don't know but I see all the other kids walking around with them by that slide." Hmmmm I'm intrigued already....so we took a big blanket and headed out. When we got there, there were lots of kids around this slide. It was amazing. They made this big concrete slide that the kids slide down on. The only way I can describe it is by comparing it to those huge slides we used to go down when we were little at Carnivals with a potato sack. She can spend hours there with the other kids. It Great!!! Second...amazing dog park! My dog is medium sized and has "beef" with smaller dogs...she likes to stomp on them like they're her size. It's funny, she thinks she's a lap dog and the lap dogs are Great Danes??? This park is great because they have a separate park for the smaller dogs so they don't get trampled by the bigger dogs. It's very big and very clean. The people in Benicia are so friendly and will strike up a conversation with you while watching the dogs play. We've never run into an aggressive dog or irresponsible owner. So it's great when the park is full of dogs that Layla can play with. read more

I'm not sure how much it was to reserve the location we had, but we recently attended a first birthday here, and the location is great! Ample parking and relatively close to the park area. We came early to help set up and one of the park employees stopped by to see if we needed any help. We reserved a large area that had a covering, some small trees, and a BBQ pit. Really close to the playground, perfect for watching your kids stay out of trouble. They have a volleyball net set up, soccer area, and baseball fields. Bathrooms are typical park bathrooms (don't expect too much) but at least they are close by. Plenty of trash cans, allows inflatable jumpers, and loud music. There were so many parties go on at this park, but it still didn't feel crowded. It was a little windy when we got there, but the sun came out soon after and warmed up. Some tables were in direct sunlight, so if you have them, maybe bring a pop up tent. But a really great location for gatherings and hanging out. read more

Wanted to let people know that there are oak trees in the dog park and the acorns can make a dog VERY sick - Google: Many people do not realize that acorns are toxic to dogs. The toxic principle is unknown, but they do contain gallotanins, a combination of gallic acid and tanic acid. Oak trees are very common and most people don't have problems, but they are not the trees of choice to have in a backyard full of pets. Acorns, oak buds, leaves, and drinking water that acorns and oak leaves have soaked in, have all caused symptoms of oak poisoning. My dog loves this park but I am SOOOOO happy to finally discover the source of her gastro problems. She would be sick for hours after leaving this park. What a great hidden gem! I never come out to Benicia, but we were invited to a kid's birthday party here and I'm glad we came. It's called "Big Slide Park" because it has a giant concrete slide that you can go down. I didn't try it, but watched all the kids slide down, sometimes a handful at a time lol. This park is big! A good amount of benches/tables with limited shade (so bring canopies. Barely any flies or bugs either. Huge grass areas for volleyball, football or soccer. Only things missing are basketball hoops and water stuctures. Large BBQ pits. Clean bathrooms. Pretty awesome playground with unique play structures. Plenty of parking. The only thing that sucks is transporting things from your car. There is no ramp so you either have to take things down the stairs or down the hill. I wouldn't mind paying that toll and having functions here. read more
