I was in a car accident seeking different treatments but still remaining in pain. My lawyer found Dr Busfield who spent a lot of time reviewing my past treatments and listening to my pain complaints. After his evaluation and by his suggestion I was given 2 shots in my shoulder that immediately helped and a month later a scheduled SI Joint injection. I have never had a surgery or really any sort of procedure of this kind so I was quite nervous. The surgical center he chose to partner with BASS was wonderful. The nurses took such great care of me and although it was just a fancy shot they saw I was nervous and did their best to put me at ease. Dr Busfield also made sure to go over everything and was done literally in 5 min. I immediately felt no pain for the first time in months... that feeling lasted a couple days and we have a plan going forward. BC this was car accident related I wasnt able to go through my health insurance. It is extremely hard to find an Orthopedic surgeon of his caliber willing to work off the trust of a lien. He quit his practice before performing followup treatment on my knees based on MRIS he ordered. I was without treatment after he quit.

First visit: He listened ordered blood test, x-ray and 3D bone scan. Had blood test and x-ray done. 2D bone scan has to be pre-authorized and no doc would get pre-autho since he requested he has to do it. However, per Dr Busfield the others would. He was gone for a month and when he returned my second visit was worse. He didn't review the test results. I had to remind him he already ordered them and they were done except 3D bone scan and why. He glanced at test results and then said Dr Adam Brooks in same office would get the 3D bone scan preautho done for me. Why couldn't this doc since he is one I am seeing? I had to call Dr Brooks office. They were a joke. He would not ordered or do anything unless I was his pateint. So I had to transfer to him. Which ment another month waiting. He wouldn't order any test until I had my first evaluation from him. My husband and I had told ladies on phone several times I had a knee replacement and having isuues. Day before my 3pm apt, we get a call confirming 1pm apt. They insisted it was never at 3pm. Rearranged our day, on way to doc and we get a call. I am calling from Dr Adams office. ?? who?? Apprently his first name Adam G Brooks, MD. Doc reviewed and seen I already had knee replacement he doesn't see people with issues and would only refer me to someone else. This office has done nothing but waist our time and 4 months. I would never recommend either one of these doctors. Between ladies ansering phones, she could have told us at the begining he could see me. And Dr Busfield passing the buck when it comes to having test done, not reviewing patient files before coming into room is very unprofessional. I let Dr. Brooks office know before hanging up. Went to see Dr Bussfield today and he immediately walked in and started telling me he knew what's wrong, I have arthritis. Okay, already knew that. He then went on to tell me about my PI case and how it probably would not cover surgery or injections. I was rear ended by a semi truck while at a stop light in Jan 2019. The semi was doing about 45 and I was at a full stop. I had to stop 5"Dr Bussfield and explain I didn't come to him as my attorney, I came to him as my Doctor. I asked what causes arthritis, since my primary care Dr at Kaiser said it's Osteoarthritis and it was likely caused by the accident. Dr Bussfield then answers "an injury causes arthritis." Duh! He then went on to make me feel like crap saying he would never get an ACDF like I had to get due to constantly having to lie down from massive leg and back pain. I don't have it as bad since the surgery but now have to deal with arthritis.l and a rude and not very intelligent Dr. I was in tears as Dr Bussfield said "well that's all I got have a nice day." I had to walk out of his office and through his lobby in tears because he had to get to the next appointment. Because of this Dr I will never go to another one again. They are all just money grubbing full of themselves idiots just like you, Dr Bussfield. Maybe next time go for the law degree and leave the medical to actual Drs. read more

This office is a joke. After being referred to the very experienced Mr. Busfield, I spent days trying to get an appointment for my hip pain, only to spend minutes speaking to an answer machine. I asked my referring doctor for a different referral. It's upsetting that you have to beg for health care in the richest nation in the world. read more

I am a 73-year-old Asian woman with RA and osteoarthritis. In addition to hand pain, I am beginning to experience knee, shoulder and hip pain. Based on several visits, I found Dr. Busfield to be extremely bright, honest and respectful. He is also a very good listener, who patiently answered all my questions. I highly recommend him as an orthopedic surgeon; and I would definitely return to him should I need future orthopedic care. Although I cannot personally comment on his surgical skills because he did not perform surgery on me, I would trust Dr. Busfield to perform any future surgical procedure he recommends for me. He is a highly trained surgeon with experience in sports medicine; his educational background (a MS, Physiology and Biophysics, with Distinction from Georgetown University Graduate School--in addition to his other degrees and publications) is impressive; and he and his office staff are caring and courteous. I went to see Dr. Busfield for a second opinion after injuring my right wrist--and tearing a ligament on my right thumb--while kayaking. He graciously saw me on short notice--three days before I was scheduled for surgery by another surgeon. Because he determined that my first doctor had misdiagnosed my underlying issue, Dr. Busfield devised an alternative treatment plan that prevented the need for immediate surgery: He injected cortisone in my right hand, which eliminated the pain in that hand and made it functional again; he gave me a hand splint; and he referred me to physical therapy. As I stated earlier, I highly recommend Dr. Busfield, who is the kind of doctor who thoroughly analyzes a patient's needs and considers the larger picture: By focusing beyond x-ray findings, he saved me from having an unnecessary surgical procedure; and he referred me for further evaluation by a hand specialist, who confirmed Dr. Busfield's assessment that I do not yet need hand surgery. read more

2 stars because Dr Busfield is very nice and efficient, and is no doubt a good doctor, however his staff are terrible. I went in for a knee injury on Feb 19th. He ordered an MRI, and said his office would call me when they got the insurance approval. I waited until Feb 23rd, and called them to see what was going on. They had gotten the approval on the 19th, and no one bothered to call me, even though they said they would. Then I had to wait until March 3rd to get the MRI. That wait was for Sutter, but there is no telling if I would have had to wait as long if they had called me the 19th and I had tried to schedule it that day, rather than 4 days later. Now, they will not give me my results until I come in to see Dr Busfield, but they won't get me in for 10 more days. 10 more days of pain, difficulty working, difficulty walking, just to see WHETHER something is wrong on the MRI. For all I know they will wait 10 days, then say, looks normal, we don't know what's going on. I asked if they had he results, and the receptionist said they can see the results but won't tell me anything about them unless I come in. I asked to have my results sent to another surgeon since they have been so irresponsible, and they said they won't even do that unless I come in first, and they can't get me in for 10 days. DR Busfield is very caring and professional. He takes time with you and listens. He puts you first! I have been coming here for almost 2 years and I have had 2 surgeries. He does a great job, he explains every detail and the possible outcomes and answers questions. He does not sit there with a computer when you are with him, he looks at you..love it. He has an Assistant that comes in with the computer so he can give his undivided attention. His office staff rocks, I love them all. They are always nice and follow up with any calls or questions. Dr. Busfield did an excellent job examining and devising a treatment plan for my 16 month old son after he injured his leg on a playground slide. He was polite, knowledgeable, patient, professional, and efficient. He explained everything in perfect detail. I would highly recommend him to my friends and family if anyone needed an Orthopedic Surgeon. His office is in a good quiet location with plenty of parking. The exam rooms are sterile, private and a good size. It could comfortably fit my 3 kids and I, Dr. Busfield, and his assistant. His front office staff need customer service training. They spend too much time chit chatting with each other about patients and personal stuff. They treat you like you're interrupting their hang out session when you sign in or return your completed paperwork. I came to the appointment with my 16 month old, 2 month old and 6 year old, and no one held the door open for us - they watched me struggle with a baby in each arm and said "pull harder the door is heavy." read more

My life has forever been changed, Dr. Busfield did elbow surgery on me, after the surgery the pain was worse, instead of possibly going in again and seeing what can be done I was then placed or discarded to pain management to forever be placed on pain medication. He completely washed his hands of me. I am struggling living with this pain and I don't want to be on pain meds. Saw another Dr to see if he will fix what Dr. Busfield did, he said "why do I have to fix a wrong from another Dr who should learn from his mistakes" Really? I just want to be fixed and not take pain meds anymore......I have no one to turn to but I will keep looking for a Dr to fix what this Dr. has done to me!! read more

I visited this office twice in last three years. The first one with Dr. Busfield himself was ok and I even recommended my neighbors this doctor. But my August 22 visit was completely opposite. I've had not a doctor but PA, because it was impossible to get doctors appointment in nearest 2 month. He just told me to get MRI and was not able to even conduct cortisone shot since he said my insurance HMO's approval. So, I left the office with strong pain and zero help. Afterwards, I called to check the status of my approval and find out that the only person in that office who is doing it, also escorting doctor with patients and there is no way to contact her or escalate the process. In three business days they DIDN'T submit the paperwork to the insurance. So, unless, you dont really have any pain or want to get diagnosed soon, you can choose this office, otherwise find some other doctor's office. MINUS 5 STARS read more

I made an appointment with Dr Busfield In March to get a second opinion for a surgical procedure on my knee. When I arrived I sat in the waiting area for over one hour. I completed all the paper work as a first time patient and paid my co- pay that was due. I went to the exam room and about 20 minutes later an associate named Tai came in and introduced himself as Dr. Busfield's associate. I thought he would be taking more of a medical history but as time went by he explained their protocol is not to jump to surgery and would be willing to give me a cortisone injection for the pain. He did not look at my x-rays nor did he look at my knee. He said that there was no guarantee that knee replacement would let me walk again. We finally had to ask where Dr. Busfield was, as we were not getting any answers needed from the associate and was told he was out on emergency surgery and would be back in 45 minutes if we wanted to wait. I had another appointment and could not wait plus I wasn't told when I went in, the doctor I made the appointment with was not there. I was not given any opportunity to reschedule or see someone else. We asked for a refund of our co-pay. Tai assured us that he would do that since we did not see Busfield. We went to check out and the receptionist said to have a seat in the waiting room she could reverse the charge as it was still in her system. We waited another 15 minutes, while she did who knows what but did not appear to be busy. My husband got me in the car as I'm handicap and need help to move. He went back in and ask the receptionist had she reversed the charge and again was told not yet but it's still in my system. He told her if it wasn't reversed we would deny the charge with our credit card company and contact the Medical Board. I received my credit card statement and they did not reverse the charge. I am now receiving a bill with the payment of $25 due. I'm very irritated with several things that should not be allowed in a medical office. Pure negligence on the part of the assistant not to look at the x-ray or examine my knee to even verify that cortisone was going to help. Secondly when you make an appointment and the doctor is called away notify the patient and give them a choice to reschedule, see the assistant or contact a different doctor. And Three when you tell the patient you'll waive the charge because you didn't see who you made the appointment with follow through and don't put a note do not waive due to length of appointment when we were stuck in the waiting room to wait for a refund that never occurred. As it's turned out I'll be having surgery at UCSF to fix my knee which has Diastrophic Dysplasia, I believe this was way over Tai's head and perhaps Busfield 's but I'll never know because I never got to see the person I made the appointment with. I would advise if you want a person who truly cares about you as a person and not a number do Not use Benjamin Busfield. read more

He was disrespectful and took 2 months to get a referral and when the referral came the Dr who he referred to was not even a specialist in ankles. Luckily the Dr at Sutter Health was wonderful, followed up immediately and helped me get the help I needed. Needless to say the damage was now worse which caused undo suffering that Dr. Busfield could had avoided had he been more compassionate, honest and thoughtful. Horrible!! read more

My husband was a patient of Dr. Busfields, went in for an exam on his knee, Dr. sent him to physical therapy for about 3 weeks, still no improvement in his knee. My husband called the doctors office on 3 different occasions to try to talk to the Dr. about his knee, dr. apparently doesn't return phone calls to his patients! He had to find a new orthopedic doctor in Walnut Creek, doctor knew exactly what is was....he had water on the knee, had it drained with a cortisone shot and he was back feeling so much better by the next day. If this doctor would have known to drain it in the beginning my husband wouldn't have had to wait so long in pain!! I would never recommend this doctor to anyone. read more

Mom was in a car accident and as a result, had 6 fractures. I went to Dr. Busfield for treatment. I had called him prior to making a appointment to ask if he could treat mom's special case and he said he could. He wasn't aware of what he was doing and had to consult his Dr. friend all through out mom's treatment. While it is a good idea to consult your colleague when unsure, I asked Dr. Busfield for his opinion, since he was the treating doctor, he didn't have an answer. Dr. Busfield didn't even have the courtesy to tell my mom that she needed surgery, his secretary comes out to inform us. Dr. Busfield mumbles and talks fast so it's very difficult to understand him. The staff misplaced mom's records and was telling me that they returned the records. Just to be sure, I rechecked in my home. I called them back to tell them that I didn't have the records so the secretary mumbles to her colleagues "she is changing her story again" while I was on the line. How unprofessional. Then she tells me we only have one image cd for your mom. She basically lied and didn't want to give me back MY records that I physically gave them to review. The staff won't even open the door for you when you are at an appointment when they see you struggling to open the door. They also keep you on hold for long periods of time before they get back to you. I had a HORRIBLE experience and I would not recommend this doctor to anyone, especially if it's for traumatic injuries. read more

I have been having trouble with my knees. They kept filling with fluid and I had to get injections. This went on for 3 years. After injections of different sorts and continued treatment I had had enough. I wanted to have new knees and wanted walk so bad I had Dr Busfield do both knees as the same time. What a GREAT experience I had with this whole experience. Dr Busfield did such a beautiful job on both knees. He had my best interest at heart. He sent me to a rehabilitation hospital after the surgery where they were so good to me I didn't want to go home. John Muir rehabilitation center. Dr. Busfield followed up with me with care afterwards. I highly recommend Dr Busfields skills and bedside manner. He's not bad to look at either. read more

I met Dr. Busfield for the first time about pain to my Achilles tendon that had been repaired 20 years earlier. He was a bit glib. Dr. Busfield sent me to an orthopedic outlet for a boot that he told me I could use on my one mile daily walk. The outlet would not fill the prescription unless I saw the doctor on the premises - the woman at the outlet said that they have repeatedly told all the doctor offices this fact. The woman at the outlet show me the prescribed boot. It was a form molded boot and there is no way that I could walk any distance in it. My injury did get better on its own. The muscles self adjusted to the injury. Sorry I paid money to have a joker practice upon me. read more

Had double meniscus surgery in which it was to fix a small tear or one knee and clean out the other.He gave vague discharge remarks and when I went back to him months later for pain, He said he didn't remember how much he cut out but said it could have been 50 to 80 percent on each one side.Im still hurting a year after in which I cant even walk. waiting on new knees. read more

I saw Dr. Busfield as a Workers Comp claim. Moderate Arthritis (uncommon for 42) and a medial meniscus tear. Surgery doesn't seem to be an option and the doctor spent a long time explaining why. I suggest always bringing in an additional person to help you recall the information as he had a lot of information. This is true for any consult at a surgical level. He drained fluid off my knee and inserted an injection within seconds and with one needle stick. I was shocked how well it went. This was not through his office, but through US Health Work Clinic in Concord. I now can feel the remaining space on the opposite side that isn't relieved, however I'm hoping to follow up with him to eliminate that side of the pain. The other side that he did address is 95% improved. I'm quite pleased. I cannot comment on the staff as I haven't seen the Dr. at his clinics. I believe his care was consistent with care I would receive outside the area of Workers Comp. I will reserve the last star after visiting his own office, confronting the additional pain that is still present now that it's more localized, and dealing with his staff. I believe he would be cognizant of what changes would need to be addressed. Remember, his office staff is not the one treating your body. A busy surgeon cannot be expected to do his medical job and babysit a staff. I am confident that he is capable of fixing any complaints. I would focus on the physician's skills in rehabilitation of the injury. read more

Today, I went for my second visit and I was hoping he will give me a cortisone shot on my left foot to end my pains. I explained to him it's been over 4 mos. and he will not give me the shot. Instead he referred me to see a foot specialist. I was very upset, disappointed, and the worst part he made me feel like a total idiot and STUPID!. I don't think he likes me because of my race. What a waste of my time and money!. I took couple of hours from my job to see him. I will not come back to see him again. He supposed to treat his patients regardless who they are. No support or encouragement . The funny part was he wants me to see a foot specialist it doesn't make sense to me. Because, that's what he is there for. I am still paying my 1st visit by installment and now I will get another medical bill from him without any good results. SO UNFAIR! The people who works for him are fantastic and very helpful over the phone. read more

Dr. Bussfield is seriously one amazing doctor! Me and my boyfriend and infant daughter were in a bad car accident. My boyfriend broke his right foot in the accident. He didn't have health insurance so we hired a lawyer and he took my boyfriend in on a lien basis. He has provided excellent care to my boyfriend even though we aren't making payments right now. I recommend Dr. Bussfield to anyone who needs to see a foot bone doctor. 4/5 stars because not all staff is friendly. It's truly sad because the staff represents the whole office and he is a 5 star doctor. There is one staff member there named Lydia who has been extremely helpful and is honestly the only good one there. She goes above and beyond at her job and her work is greatly appreciated. They're is also a tall blonde with short hair probably in her 30s/40s who has been helpful as well! read more

After my 3 year old fell off the play structure on a Friday night and landed on her elbow, we took her straight to urgent care where they said she had a fractured elbow and to follow up with a Dr. the following Monday. She had been in a lot of pain all weekend so we were eager to get a cast on her when we went to see Dr. Busfield on that Monday. We had tried calling a couple different orthopedic offices before his and nobody could get our daughter in that day even knowing the condition she was in. Dr. Busfield's office got her in within 2 hours of us calling! He took one look at the x-Rays provided by urgent care and said she needed surgery within the next couple days. He was thorough, and you could tell he really cared about the way her arm would heal and the pain she was in. He is very straight forward and gives you all the information you need. I was so nervous for her surgery, they had to put my baby girl under to realign her elbow and put pins in. Dr. Busfield made us feel comfortable from pre-op, and especially during post-op. He told us the surgery went great, showed us updated x-Rays with our daughter's elbow aligned properly, and gave us full directions on how to care for her at home. Some of these yelp reviews had me a little nervous, but we had a wonderful experience with him and his office. I hope I don't need to see him again in the future lol but if we ever do need orthopedic care, he's the one my family will go to from now on. read more

My son is a patient of Dr.Busfield's and I have had nothing but a fantastic experience with his office. He is quite the professional along with his staff which are very friendly. On several occasions I have had to call the office for different paper work/disability issues and they have always been able to resolve the problems and be so helpful to him. They have been treating him for several months during which time he suffered a broken arm and now a fractured leg and because of Dr. Busfield's treatment and after care he is mending very well...I am so glad we found Dr. Busfield and will continue to see him in the future if the need arises. Dr Busfield did surgery on my frozen shoulder July 2010 and I was not sure I would have a full range of motion afterwards. He made a few recommendations which one was to use a catheder after surgery which would numb my shoulder, so right out of surgery I would start moving it and also start therapy. This process would ensure a 100% full range of motion and he was right. Everything he recommended for my recovery was spot on. Today I work out, I golf, I never have pain, and have 100% full range of motion in my shoulder. He was also very patient when explaining the steps, he was an excellent listner, easy to talk to and very confident, which I loved. Thanks to him I am pain free and live a very actice lifestyle.
