Went to see him for strained shoulders. He showed me some exercises and was to send them to me but I never got them. I asked for pain medicine he said 800 mg Motrin 3times a day. I ate two servings oatmeal then took first 800 mg and got ill feeling. I have been Dr. Jewell's patient for at least 7 years. He was recommended by a friend and I found him to be knowledgeable, professional and most of all caring. He takes extra time with me in person and follows up via phone and email. I never feel rushed but rather important and heard. Dr. Jewell offers me pragmatic advice and respects what type of treatments I am open to. Since he has switched to a concierge practice, his service has only improved. I get calls from the office staff, which are beginning to feel like family, to tell me when flu shots are available or with follow up to test results from a specialist doctor. I have the confidence that Dr. Jewell is well versed in my medical history and will guide me in his caring manner to keep up with my health. What could be more important that the pandemic? How about having a doctor that is your partner in navigating this awful scourge in our lives. Dr. Jewell has been just that. Throughout the pandemic he has kept us informed with the latest information. He has taken time to personally discuss our concerns and help us make safe decisions about seeing family. When the anti-body test became available, he pre-registered every one of his patients so we could be the first to participate...and we were. Then, he minute 75+ were eligible in January, he called my husband himself, on a SUNDAY night to tell him he had a shot waiting with his name on it! Bill was one of the very first vaccinated in this category. Later, when they opened it up to Educators, another call came, this time to me. Two days later I was "one and done" with the J&J shot. No hassles, no secret hook ups or countless links to try. Just one call from my own doctor and we were vaccinated in the comfort of his office by his caring, highly skilled staff who know and love us. We joined Dr Jewell's concierge service, and we are very happy we did. Dr. Jewell is smart and knowledgeable, but what we like most is that he listens, and gives us (either my wife or myself) time and consideration. Contrary to some reviews, we find that Dr. Jewell does not overprescribe medicines, in fact his method is the opposite. He tries to determine root causes, and will suggest alternatives to prescription drugs. He has given us referrals to specialists for specific issues, and we have been very happy with his referrals. We are both on Medicare, and we find that his concierge service is worth it - we get in quickly, we get full attention, we get taken care of by a very professional doctor who is knowledgable and kind. read more

Just got off the phone with the receptionist, Nancy. Apparently Dr. Jewell's response to said "hogwash" reviews are now incorrect, there is a MANDATORY $1800/$2500 fee to become a part of this doctors practice as of September 2015. Then when I mentioned that I would report them to Cigna and BBB of this turned out to be a lie the receptionist asked what my first and last name was, as an attempt to keep me from writing this review. I've been a patient since 2008 and my husband just had his first appointment with Dr. Jewell this morning and was so impressed, I wanted to leave a review for him. (My husband is not a Yelper, so I will relay his experience, which is about the same experience I had when I last visited.) My husband said that Dr. Jewell was not only gracious and friendly, but spent the most time with him out of any doctor visit he'd ever been to. Dr. Jewell imparted some important knowledge about over the counter medications for his back condition. My husband has a chronic back condition that has been recommended for surgical remedy and went all the way to meeting with a surgeon at Kaiser, but said that his meeting with Dr. Jewell was more informative, professional and enlightening than a surgical consultation with The Big K. read more

I am a new patient of Dr. Jewell and couldn't be more satisfied (I come from NYC and have high expectations). Dr. Jewell spend well over 40 minutes with me. Didn't rush, answered questions, gave insight. He has the "new school" of thought as it relates to healthcare, preventative medicine, meds, etc... Dr. Jewell is a great doctor, plain and simple. His is caring, attentive, and does an excellent job of explaining things to his patients in a way that is thorough and not at all condescending. His demeanor and bedside manner are both terrific. I truly felt like Dr. Jewell took his time with me at a patient and wasn't just concerned with getting me in and out as quickly as possible. Dr. Jewell clearly loves what he does, and he strikes me as being extremely competent in his work. Despite this, he lacks the ego that can occasionally accompany some physicians, which is refreshing. Really just a dream of a practice. They set it up so that you can get in the same day after a torturous wait of 3 - 4 months for your first appointment. So once you are in, you're set! Dr. jewell did not get a chance to be my Dr because he tried to charge me a $2500 fee under the counter to be a member of his practice. It was not an optional feel, it was mandatory and disgusting. I was told he charges extra so I will have access to extra time and completion of referral paperwork if needed. I don't even know that I want extra time with him. And my insurance allows for self referral, so no big deal. Folks with NO insurance often run into drs who do not care and won't listen or spend time with them, but I have never had this problem. It's disgusting to me that a dr would charge his patients with insurance additional just to still be a dr. What's more amazing to me is how many idiots do pay him. Gross. Slimy. read more

Dr Jewel has a concierge style practice and offers more services than most. If you don't need or want the extras, a more traditional office is probably for you. I really like Dr J and his staff. I have young children so having his cell phone for nights and weekends has been a big sanity, time and cost saver. I've been able to take my child in on the weekend for urgent visits. I can get in to see him without a wait and whenever I need to. I never pay a copay or get a bill for my visits. He is available to my family every day, all hours. Pretty amazing. I don't know many people who are willing to do their job 24/7. read more

Dr. Jewell has been my personal physician for well over 6 years. He is very professional and thorough. I know that sometimes you will wait a bit longer than your appointed time slot but that is because when he meets with a patient he doesn't hurry and I know he will also show me the time I deserve. The "concierge" fee is now required. I understand why Dr. Jewell did this; better service for a smaller number of patients and a better future for his family (we would all do this in his shoes). Unfortunately I had to leave due to the fee but I would highly recommend that you pay it if you can afford to. Definitely worth it to have such a caring and thorough doctor. read more

Dr. Jewell is the best. I have been a patient of Dr Jewell's for five years. Dr. Jewell is interested in his patients' total well being. He is pro-active in health care. Dr Jewell communicates clearly. He is respectful of patients' time; I have never waited more than ten minutes in the lobby nor in a treatment room. I may leave Napa this year. I doubt that will ever have another doctor that meets the standards that Dr Jewell has set. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Jewell's since I moved to Napa in 2012. He's extremely personable, curious about his patients' general well-being and easy to talk to. Dr. Jewell is both knowledgeable about a wide range of medical issues and he really cares. Note that I have never been told of a mandatory annual fee. Coming from England I have sometimes been disappointed with the American medical system especially primary care physicians. Dr Jewell is a great exception to the general rule. He is caring, listens carefully and always explains his thoughts and diagnosis. The fee is not hogwash. I just got off the phone with them. So we were patients of Dr. Jewell's, were told he was switching to the "concierge" model and that if we didn't pay the fee, we needed to go elsewhere. We did. Now the doctor we switched to is also going to the yearly fee, but we had received a cordial letter from Dr. Jewell's office inviting us to come back. However, I just called to reestablish my family, and was told "too late"--as of September 1st, no matter that you were a patient before, you and your family are now considered "new" patients and if you want to come back, you need to pay us an annual fee of up to $2500. I very much enjoyed going to Dr. Jewell's in the past and the nurses, especially, were stellar, but because Mr. Jewell is concerned more about money, we cannot return unless we are wealthy upvalley patients apparently. Dr. Jewel is regarded as one of the best family practice physicians in Napa Valley. He has been my physician and my family's physician for more than 15 years. He always spends enough time to find out what's going on and is an excellent diagnostician. What really impresses me is that he keeps up in the field and brings the newest thinking to whatever problem we have. We recently moved to the East Bay and still drive to Napa to see Dr. Jewel when we have an appointment. His staff, Nancy and Sue, is also excellent and have been with him for many years. read more

Update on the fee. I just tried to make a new patient appointment and the receptionist told me starting September it is mandatory. She struggled to explain it to me, like she was embarrassed to say it was for testing and access to the doctor. So if I don't get sick, I've still paid $1800 PLUS my monthly insurance bill? Dr. Jewell is great, really up to date with the digital time we are living in. As for the fee, indeed it is required now, but you have the choice of going elsewhere! Called to schedule my first appointment ,after the eight time they finally returned my call (this doctor was listed as one of the very view providers listed on my insurance or i would have never called after the first time). When Nancy the receptionist finally called me back, she called back with a major attitude and a air of arrogance in her tone. I made an appointment with her for my appendix (i feared a potential emergency) and then she called me back to state that "the doctor said I'm not the right fit for their establishment". She basically treated me with the maturity and professionalism of a high schooler and referred me to the emergency room because "it's not their problem". Although I did not need an emergency room as of yet, I was forced to go to a free community clinic whereby the service was not only FREE but impeccable compared to Dr. Jewell's office. Rude, arrogant, unprofessional and I am almost certain the five star reviews on here are friends/family and the like. Atrocious service and I would deter anyone from going to see this Doctor. I am also filing a complaint with my insurance provider to have him removed from the provider list. I will also file with the BBB and all other regulatory agencies. read more
