BEWARE!!! This restaurant operates very shady and practices with bait and switch. On Tuesday's the menu states 50% off on ALL and ANY tacos, it's called taco Tuesday. When I ordered 6 tacos they only gave 20% off. I explained the discrepancy then was told that was only for seniors so I got out my license to prove i was a senior and was old enough for the discount. A few minutes went by and the waitress came back and said the owner wanted me to return the tacos because those were not what you get for the discount even though the menu states All and Any type tacos you get 50% off. This bozo which is the owner BENJI wanted to replace them with something of less value, quality and probably tainted. Myself will never give them another cent. This is a Warning to all, they act on the side of criminal. They gave me this much of a problem over $6.00 which is insane and sad. I have never seen such unprofessionalism and greed. When we got there, only one other couple was there and we were a little suspicious. But the food was amazing. Incredible flavors unlike anything we had experienced at a Mexican restaurant. First time trying this restaurant. Ordered carnitas tacos which were bland. Pupusas were good. Got charged 10% "large party" fee which didn't make sense because it was just me ordering 2 items. When I asked why they said that is what they do for to go orders. So I got charged an extra $4 for about 50 cents worth of styrofoam to go boxes. If I could give a negative star I would. I'm honestly surprised by some of the positive reviews. Where should I start. 1. I ordered through door dash, and before placing the order i called and spoke to the resturant owner, and asked if they could make a papusa with Cheese and Beans. I'm vegetarian, and they didn't have that option. So I asked, and he said yes. I didn't want to place an order pay with delivery and DoorDash fee if that wasn't possible. I also asked if they provide a salad and a tomato salsa that normally comes with papusas. Just to be on the safe side because you never know. He said yes. 2. The order arrives late because the store owners said it might take a bit for it to be made. I said that's fine. 3. I do not get any salsa. NONE. I called and asked what happened, he said that his waiter forgot, sorry. That's fine, I made my own with what I had at home. 4. BUT then the papusas I requested, which I paid $3.99, already super pricey compared to what it is in other places $2-$2.50 is the normal range, they did not have any beans in them. Just plain cheese. I didn't ask for meat in them so the store owner is already saving money on that, so why the fuck would you not put beans in them, especially when I wrote in the description of the item on DoorDash what I wanted AND called just to confirm. 5. I called the restaurant again, telling them what happened. His response "papusas only come with cheese", and I said no, I spoke to you and you said you would add Beans AND cheese. He hung up. Just like that, just hung up. I called again, and he said "I am busy". Please do not give your hard earned money to a resturant that does not care about their customers, especially to owners who are ungrateful for the business you provide. I rarely leave bad reviews, and I am always super polite and kind, but I am not okay with people who abuse it or are disrespectful. read more

I traveled to Pinehurst for vacation from Philadelphia. Found this spot before I left town to head home, and wow, some of the best Mexican food I have had outside of Mexico. We visited Benji's a couple of years ago at the beginning of the pandemic for takeout and were so impressed with their food quality that we visited in person again today! Our party was greeted immediately and visited twice by Benji who made sure my frozen margarita was perfect and to make a suggestion for my daughter's boyfriend's quesadilla...the corn tortilla was amazing! Terrible Mexican food. I ordered carry out and on the phone I was told it would be 15 minutes. I showed up 20 minutes after my call, and I still had to wait 20 minutes at the counter...for an order of three tacos! And the restaurant was almost completely empty. There were only two other customers in the place. When I opened the bag at my home, I found that they had given me a small bag of chips that looked like they had been crushed before they had been taken out of the bag. Chips the size of a quarter. It makes me sad; I could have been eating here. Benji the owner is a great cook and friendly host. His menu has a wide range of authentic Mexican dishes. This is NOT the Americanized dog food the other places serve. He makes everything to order and from scratch. Came here on a whim and was so excited to see Menudo on the menu! I haven't had this in years and Benji's did not disappoint!

My mom and I came to NC for a family funeral. Somebody suggested we go to Benji's if we want great mexican fare. She said, "Oh, this makes me want to go there - you will love it!" She told us it is part store, part restaurant. We made a reservation since it was a Friday night. There were a lot of local Latin folks waiting for their to-go orders. We could not find online reviews and we were not really sure when we walked in, that we wanted to stay. We are so glad we did. We started by ordering guacamole and chips ($5.50) and margaritas since we were unsure if we would really like the food. The guacamole was delicious so we ordered dinner. Benji was so nice. He made our food exactly the way we wanted it becuase he wanted us to enjoy our food. My mom had a vegetarian child relleno which he makes with his own blend of seven different kinds of cheese. It also came with beans, rice and sour cream ($12.50). It was one of the best chile rellenos we have ever eaten. We are picky eaters and have travelled all over the world. We agreed that this was now one of our favorite mexican restaurants - world wide! I ordered a vegetarian sope and two vegetarian tacos. Again, fabulous! Our total bill with tip was $40. We ordered hot sauce and Benji delivered. Normally when I order hot sauce in various restaurants, it's not very hot. This was! He brought over a bag of Arbol Sin Pata (Arbol Chili Pods) and told us that he makes his sauce from these. We bought a bag ($1.99) to take back to SF, CA but sadly he does not yet bottle his own hot sauce. If he opened his restaurant in SF, CA he would be a very rich man. He told us he has been serving people in Pinebluff, NC for seven years and he loves it here. He does not plan to move. Most people hear about his place from word of mouth. A nice couple originally from FL also came in and loved their food too. Warning: go with a group, the food is not fast, so take your time and enjoy your company. The food is worth the wait!! I told Benji I was going to be his first review on yelp and that he might have to hire more staff after everybody realized this is the best Mexican food around!
