1. My appointment was at 7:30am. I arrived at 7:25am. I wasn't seen by a provider until 8:10am. No…read moreone apologized for this and the lady at the front desk even indicated that their hygienist showing up at 8am was somehow my fault. 2. The dentist, first, poked around and said that my teeth looked great, to start flossing and get more regular cleanings (fair), but that overall I looked good. 3. The hygienist came in second (by this time it was 8:15am, 45 minutes after my appointment) and poked around for about 3 minutes before telling me I had severe issues. Conveniently these severe issues (that the actual dentist didn't see after poking around) would cost me $2000. 4. They don't do a cleaning on the first visit. This is not made clear whatsoever. I would not have booked if I knew they did an "initial consultation" like a med spa. Also--if you offer an initial consultation, it should be free. It's a consultation for potential services rendered. When I asked about the cleaning, the lady at the desk said that whoever called me to confirm the appointment should've told me they don't do a cleaning on the first visit. Nobody ever called to confirm my appointment. So, I arrived at 7:25am for my 7:30am appointment, waited for the hygienist to arrive, was told one thing by the dentist and something completely different by the hygienist, and walked out at 8:30am after sitting in two separate waiting rooms for the majority of an hour and wasting my biyearly free checkup. Please go elsewhere and save yourself the stress and confusion.

Everything was fine until Dr. Pollack BROKE my surrounding molar while extracting my wisdom teeth. He told me about while I was coming off of sedation so of course I had no recollection of it until I regained feeling in my mouth and felt the sharp edge of my tooth. Luckily, my sister got a video of him telling me and his first response was "I didn't even pull that hard, it must've already been broken." Mind you I have TWO very recent sets of X-rays which say otherwise. I already have pretty bad dental anxiety but I have tried to be proactive to try to avoid more costly and extensive repairs in the future... I called the office the Monday after my wisdom teeth extraction (which was the Friday before) to try and get some more information about what happened (and to see how they plan to repair or at least pay for the repair of my tooth) and this dude (Dr. Pollack) is on vacation. The lady on the phone just tells me to call back next week when he's back because there's nothing she can do. I call the next Monday and he is STILL on vacation!! The lady on the phone told me that he'd be back Wednesday. Today is Wednesday. I called again this morning, and STILL.NO. RESPONSE. To have caused me even more dental trauma by breaking my tooth (which will definitely need to be repaired), not check up after doing so (or have anyone from his office check in about the tooth) and have me jump through all of these hoops just to speak with him... is unbelievable. I am not sure of the type of business these people are running. The reviews SEEMED great which is why, even though I have so much anxiety, I decided to trust Dr. Pollack with my care. Looks like I was wrong to do so. This office will not stop hearing from me, and I will not stop sharing this unbecoming experience, until this situation is rectified to my liking.

I've been coming here for years, and…read moreafter a couple of years away, I made the mistake of trying a different dental office closer to me -- and it was a terrible experience. They tried to tell me I needed 10-15 crowns, multiple procedures, and quoted me outrageous prices. I came back to Athens Family Dental for a second opinion, and as always, they were kind, honest, and professional. They let me know I only needed one crown for an old filling and didn't try to upsell me on anything unnecessary. The staff made me feel so comfortable and reassured after such a stressful experience elsewhere. I've learned my lesson -- I'll never go anywhere else again. The nurses then made unprofessional comments about me after I left that my son heard and then they laughed about each comment including calling me a "helicopter mom" saying oh, the helicopter is out there just letting y'all know. I'm assuming that's when I left the front waiting area to the very next one closer to him because a nurse came out going towards the office and looked at me funny and turned around and went back, then my son told me they used profanity while getting him in the wheelchair. While the procedure was efficient, the bedside manner was lacking and that's putting it mildly. If you want anyone in the from office to be kind or even smile. Thr nurses literally laugh on the phone when they say hold on and seem irritated that you even call. I would caution others, especially parents of sensitive children, any children with disabilities, or matter of fact any child at all because it's uncalled for so I would say to consider a different place. Because my son heard all of this, and I didn't tell my son anything about the things he heard me say to the doctor,So that was a rough for my husband and I when he said all that on the way home. The main surgeon was extremely kind and made eye contact and was just very sweet and straight to the point very thorough though but the doctor who flew in saying I have to go, times up get out we're on a time limit here, he's asleep. I was trying to explain well sir he can't be because literally when he walked in she was injecting my his son.My biggest issue is he heard them talking about his mama and laughing at his mama, whispering. He said they talked about many other things but he said he couldn't defend me not being able to speak. I told my son at the end of this life we have to answer to what we do. That it's not his responsibility and they're grown adults and should do better. Thankfully everything went well during surgery but Please consider going somewhere else if you want some kindness and a better bedside manner. I'm thankful my child is older but could not magine a younger child sitting there with adults bashing their parent. I can't comprehend it. Why even be in a medical field if you have no empathy whatsoever for your patient. Not just empathy respect kindness you name it. Words hurt the sharper than any two edged sword as the word of God clearly states. One day and I pray it never happens they may get a patient who they pick on and that might be a patient that may be going through something in their life that might be the last straw for them. I went for a cleaning and was very anxious. The hygienist kept talking, and I told her I was not able to talk at the time. She did the cleaning, then told the dentist I was "Not a right fit", and they told me over text message I would have to find another. I apologized for having a panic attack (I was literally fighting tears during the procedure) and they refused to respond. I can't say what went wrong exactly-I was probably a bit short, but also was trying not to calm down. I had previously told them I wanted to have headphones on during the appointment and the hygienist didn't seem to be happy with that. I'm not sure if they were uncomfortable having someone of a different race, but they seemed to ascribe me to a stereotype rather than ask why I was upset or panicking.

I originally found her while searching for a dentist local to my second home. Athens is actually halfway between both homes. That works out fairly well. Her staff has always been kind and friendly to me. I am a bit anxious when it comes to my mouth, but she is no nonsense but thorough and gentle. I believe it helps her practice that she was a hygienist first. In fact, my husband and granddaughter will also be seeing her this year.
