I'm not an expert on nurseries and have only visited a few in my life, and on top of that, I am new in town, so I don't really have an idea of whether their prices are reasonable and if their selection is competitive vs. other nurseries/stores in the area. That being said, they do have a really good selection of indoor and outdoor plants, succulents and herbs. I did think that for a nursery, the prices were a little on the higher end (some of their succulent prices were comparable to what I've seen in supermarkets, which kind of defeats the purpose of a nursery I think). They didn't have a great variety of pots etc. and not a lot of bonsai, from what I can recall. Staff were friendly, things were pretty easy to find and it's a fun shopping experience. read more

Bennett's is the place to come for all things lawn, garden & plant related! They have lots of parking and a huge display outside as well as in the greenhouse. There is a small gift shop with birdfeeders, bird baths, statues and more. They also have every flower pot or vase you could need. We have bought seeds from them many times and their garden starts are always good! Everyone (and I mean everyone) that works here is extremely knowledgeable and will help you pick plants based on your soil, sun, spacing etc. They have a great guarantee on trees & bushes too. Love to peruse here when I'm in town they have a nice variety much better than what I see in a lot of plant shops. I did bring home one plant that had some mealy bugs but that can happen almost anywhere and I always quarantine before mixing in new plants, but a heads up. Certainly should have checked better but I wasn't paying attention. Regardless it certainly didn't stop me and I have gotten some really nice plants at great deals here. I love greenhouse, plant farms, nurseries. I am an avid, learning gardener and my SO and I seek out new places to go whenever possible. We wandered in here a few days ago after a doctors trip to Lafayette and we were both pleasantly surprised. He loved the "plant pharmacy" and I loved the variety of roses and perennials outside. There was a nice area inside with gifts and garden decor and even graveside and silk flowers. The staff was kind and helpful and the variety and healthiness of plant life was endless. I only rated 4 stars because I felt they were a tad bit pricey but I would not hesitate to make future purchases simply because the variety was so incredible. read more

I am very disappointed that the staff do not wear masks nor do most of the customers. There is no enforcement or encouragement of social distancing. Additionally the selection is very picked through at this time. All of this seems to be irritating the staff as they were also quite rude. Today I asked a young woman where a specific plant might be; she did not recognize the name (vanilla marigold) and I think that she said that she would ask. Bennett's is the place I go when I am serious about finding a large variety of healthy flowers, trees, shrubs....everything I need, they have. What makes Bennett's a step above the rest, aside from their large variety, is their customer service. They always have knowledgeable staff on hand who seem to have a knack for zoning in on clueless customers and helping out in any way they can. If you want good plant material for landscape jobs or residential purchases, Bennett's is capable to delivering decent specimens and once in a while may pay enough to retain knowledgeable staff, but you can expect to pay twice as much retail price there as opposed to Robbie Lockhart's Branching Out Nursery on Klondike Road. (My most recent example of sticker shock would be a 3-gallon container fothergilla plant which cost $43 at Bennett's', $23 at Branching Out, same condition). Robbie can order what you need; Bennett's staff acts like you're a pain in a the butt holding up their line in the garden shop. As someone who regularly specifies plant and landscape material for commercial and institutional projects, I have been somewhat disappointed at the prices and services expected to maintain the Bennett name - too much overhead and not enough local competition, I suppose. read more

This review is for their landscaping department, not their wonderful nursery or garden shop. We turned to them to build two retaining walls for us 5 years ago. Already the tall wall is at a very obvious angle and the more it leans, the more I believe that their great reputation doesn't apply to their landscaping unit. I've been a happy, satisfied customer of Bennett's Greenhouse for (hard to believe!) 60 years. It is THE place to shop locally for bedding plants, perennials, herbs and every other growing thing for the home and garden. The variety is unmatched anywhere else in the area. This is an independent, family owned business, operating since the late 1800's. That alone tells you something about their quality, selection and service. And they're open year round! We spent over $500 there because they offered a one year guarantee on the plants. We bought in the Spring. By the time the next Spring had come around we noticed a plant did not make it through the winter. Took the dead plant in and found out they would not honor the guarantee without the original receipt. We had to keep the original receipt from 11 months earlier? That is hard to do. And the know it. It is almost like they count on customers misplacing receipts within the one-year time frame. I showed them the actual credit card bill that showed all the details, but they would not accept it. Asked them to cross-reference everything on my credit card bill versus their own database as that would prove that I bought it there. They said they cannot do that (or won't do that). Technically, they are correct, we no longer had the in-store receipt. But we definitely showed them proof (in the form of the credit card bill) that we bought it from them. I am disappointed they would not work with me. The plant they sold me did not make it through the winter. Now I have to buy another replacement plant. It will not be from this place. Never again. I have literally spent thousands there through the years. But, there will be no more future $$$ spent there. I cannot recommend this establishment. read more
