We all came together for a going home service for Jamari Henry. My nephew was shot down on Labor Day 2025. Jamari was only 24 years old when he was killed. The quality of life was gone but the quality of service Bentas Funeral Home was good. The family was glad his service turned out good. A blessing to all that attended. This was my first time making home going arrangements.My mom transition on November 13th.My niece and I visited three funeral homes.When we got to Benta's there was this feeling I cannot explain.The reception(ROCHELLE) smile and compassion was the deciding factor for us.she showed respect and empathy at this difficult time..she had us take a seat,then God sent a angel by the name of Dean. My brother and I attempted to view a funeral today of a dear co-worker and were unable to do so. Benta was supposed to have the funeral on YouTube. It was supposed to begin on YouTube at 11am and it is now 12 pm and nothing. With all the technology that is available today this is unacceptable. Had my son service there a few weeks ago. Ms. Harris and the young lady at the front desk were very nice and professional. However my son was 24 and between the makeup and embalming he looked 54. It was terrible I thought they put the wrong person in the casket. They made every excuse as to why he looked this way. I had decided to close the casket because it was just that bad but decided to use a rope to keep people from getting too close. They did refund me for the make up. My family usually use Unity but they were booked for 2 weeks straight. I'll be honest i will never use them again for a young person. I live on this block and it's horrible whenever there is a funeral. They sometimes have two and three funerals at once so, there is literally no where to park or you are blocked in until the funeral is over. However; this really isn't my gripe because people die everyday and I know what it's like while at a funeral and you're grieving. My issue is the lady(s) at the front desk. When you call, they are not helpful. It's always "They're getting ready to finish now so, you have to wait." Saturday 9/7/19 my family and I laid my Nana to rest. That Saturday prior we made all the arrangements, and Dean made everything smooth and easy. Everything we decided was executed perfectly, honestly better than we imagined. My Nana looked amazing, and almost 20 years younger. Even when we were late getting things to Dean, he worked with us. I thank him, and this entire establishment for making the most difficult time of our lives an easy one. We hope to not be back any time soon, but we will definitely be back. read more

Benta's is a long established business that my family has known of for years so when my father passed after a long illness, my sister and decided that this would be the best place to handle the arrangements. My father passed during a holiday weekend (July 4th) so we had to wait until the next day to start final arrangements but the funeral director that was assigned to us Chontel Harris was great. We told her our budget and she was understanding telling us the options without additional pressure to add extras. She explained the process in detail from that day to the day of the funeral; communication was easy and prompt. This has been the choice of funeral homes for my family the past 60 years. This last experience was tragic. We buried our last family matriarch per her request and we were treated with no empathy no sympathy and a really poor attitude. It seemed as if I was bothering her. The director Ms Benta was cold and kept a very nonchalant attitude as if she did not want to be there. Never even cracked a smile. Just business as usual. I was so broken hearted and had to deal with this only because my grandma wanted to be there. Our family pays well, up front each time never with any problems. Nicole at the front desk was very warm and friendly. She's an asset. The person who did my grandma's makeup did an amazing job. But the planning process was not good at all. I wasn't even comfortable asking questions. I felt rushed. We were even rushed at the gravesite. This is the last family member they will get from is. Our Bentas legacy definitely stops here. I was prepared for a stressful process in planning my mother's funeral. Thanks to Lisa and the Benta's team, that was far from the case. They made the process so smooth and understandable. Lisa explained things so that I was never overwhelmed in making decisions. My Mom had been ill and I was afraid that she would not look good but again I was wrong. My mom looked amazing. For the wake, people were able to leave video/Audio messages for my family. Also, the funeral home has a service where they put your program online and provide a private,unique URL that you can share. This was great for those friends and family who were unable to make it to the services. Everything they did helped to ease the most stressful and emotional time of my life. The ONLY reason this business is getting one star is because of our limo driver. On Saturday we buried my wife's grandmother in West Chester and the entire ride back to Manhattan the driver was obviously driving too fast for his own good. He kept slamming on his breaks and continually laid on the horn, even at moments where we sat at red lights. Really, where are vehicles supposed to go if there is a red light? Or if there's a traffic jam? The ride back was beyond unpleasant, unprofessional and lacked consideration for our grieving family. My brother in law was so upset with the driver he spoke up (maybe not in the nicest tone) about it various times and the driver not once took a clue. This is wrong and not a good way to make passengers feel safe. Benta's needs to look into retraining this gentleman for further rides. Very very disappointing. read more

Worst experience my family ever had during our quest to have our family member creamated with dignity and compassion. The only thing the funeral director wanted was to be paid upfront with a cashiers check before getting his body from the morgue. Mickey laid in the morgue from February 3 rd until the 15th. He has burial insurance and the funeral director had the audacity to want to charge an additional 4% for using his policy. We called Baileys Funeral Home and was immediately honored with professionalism and respect. The Funeral Director from Bentas charged $681 to release our loved ones body to the Baieys Funeral Home after they said they would pick him up from the morgue until they received a cashiers check. I wouldn't recommend this funeral home to anyone unless you want to be treated in the most unprofessional and disrespectful way possible. read more

Dean Wilson - what an incredible human being. From the moment we met, he made my family and I feel at ease. This is a difficult, confusing, and very overwhelming process, but Dean made it all feel so effortless. Benta was recommended to us by the pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and I have zero regrets. Dean went the extra mile for us, making a stop at my mother's building during the funeral procession to leave flowers at the front steps. Incredible. A simple gesture that will forever stay embedded in my memory and our hearts. I know the other reviews make this place seem like a nightmare and it worried me at first, too. Dean and his team at Benta made all those fears vanish. They took great attention to all the details, even the smallest ones were not overlooked. Mom looked dashing in her casket. There was never any pressure from Dean to buy the most expensive casket or include the additional limo expense. He catered mom's service to our needs both financial and sentimental. It's the "McDonald's" of funeral homes. A lot of people don't know better so they go there only to receive subpar service and a practiced "pitch". Honestly do yourself and favor and go elsewhere if you want your loved ones' arrangements properly handled. Our assigned funeral director was horrible (with a bad attitude) and convinced us to get a metal casket only to be told (the day that it was supposed to be shipped to another state) that it was too heavy for the flight. Obviously their first time at the rodeo. She offered no suggestions on how to fix the situation and said she'd have to talk to her "manager". Believe me you don't want to deal with the incompetence of a business when you're also dealing emotionally with the passing of a family member. Long story short Benta's ended up having to drive my father's casket to it's destination and never had the decency to call me to let me know that the casket arrived safely to it's destination. Inexcusable. In addition when I wrote a letter of complaint to the two owners of Benta's, I received no reply. This is how they do business. They are obviously only after your money and do not care about the quality of work they do. For whatever it's worth do not send your loved ones here if you want them cared for properly. read more

I don't feel a rating is needed, The planning of this should have been done different. The person planning and the policy holder are not the same person then both should be present. At this planning the contract person was given the rights to everything, where the policy holder had to get permission for what they wanted done. Planning a funeral is a family thing not whoever sign the contract is the one who would handle the service. The policy hold should have been entitled to the flag or the urn since that's how the funeral got paid. So thumbs down for this funeral home, no one so many people go to UNITY. I would not recommend Benta's if asked for future funerals. To the lady at Benta's funeral Ms. L. Henry, thanks for the memories that went sour and the wishes of the decease person that won't happen because you gave the urn to the wrong child of the decease.
