It's good to have friends with a boat. We floated up and tied off at one of the several dock spaces for patrons and went inside for a tasty lunch. Walleye was just okay, very greasy. The steak was so chewy to the point of it being borderline inedible. Waiters looked very stressed and clearly not prepared for a busy Friday night. Salad bar looked atrocious. There was various vegetables scattered across the counter and the floor, many were mixed with other items and people were grabbing the salad ingredients with their bare hands. The servers took ~45 mins to to come over and ask for our drink options and we had to personally flag them down to take our orders. If you go here, be prepared for mediocre food, ~2 and 1/2 hour wait, and bad service. The taxidermy was cool though. read more

Oh how the mighty have fallen.. I grew up coming to the Northwoods my entire life and my family would drive 45 minutes out of the way almost every year (until COVID) to eat at Bent's Camp. Bent's Camp is one of those iconic, well know establishments in the Northwoods that knows how to draw a crowd. No matter what time you're coming to eat, there's always going to be a wait and a crowd of people are going to be outside waiting. I haven't been in the last 3 or so years because of COVID, so we decided to take the drive to go back for the first time in a while to try out their fish fry. Wow has this place changed. They now have an outdoor seating area with an outdoor bar which is great for those who boat in or simply want to enjoy the outdoor space they have. But with that being said, it seems like the focus has shifted from being restaurant focused to bar/entertainment focused. The once iconic salad bar overfilling with options and fresh ingredients is now significantly smaller and just kind of sad looking. It's not worth the additional $3-$5 up charge to go to it. The seafood chowder is still great, but the fish fry was the worst I've had in the Northwoods. The fish is coated in almost a corn dog-like batter and there's way too much of it. Hardly seasoned and the fish itself is slimy. The texture of these two together was not pleasant. I had to remove the batter and just eat the fish. The sides were ok, but the amount of fries you get compared to other restaurants is pretty laughable, there were probably 8-10 fries on the plate. Service was pretty slow even though we were there early (they do fish fry all day now) because we wanted to avoid the crowd/usual wait. Like I stated before, it seems like Bent's Camp has shifted its priorities from it's once iconic restaurant to their bar/outdoor entertainment area. Overall, I think Bent's Camp is the spot for those looking to drink and have appetizers after a long day at the lake, but definitely not a meal. read more

Bents Camp has a great atmosphere and captures the Northwoods charm, complete with wood walls, mounted fish, moose and elk. Seating is completely and spacious. Our wait staff was prompt, friendly and attentive. We were never without refills and the food came soon after we ordered. Our dinner was fine. We had started with the curds and pizza sticks (which is a pizza cut into rectangles). I had the fish fry. The food as compatriot the prices of other restaurants in the area didn't quite compare, in that it was a bit higher than expected. The food was okay; nothing to write home about. On our occasional trips 'up north', my husband and I use Bent's Resort's boat launch. After an hour on the lake, we ran into some rocks, and the boat died... middle of nowhere...no idea how the HECK we were ever gonna get back... over 10 miles! With no other recourse, we called Bent's and asked who we might call to get out of this mess (!). The gentleman (can't recall his name), said to give him a few minutes, and he would get back to us. He DID get back to us, told my husband that he found help for us, and that the gentleman -- Skip -- would be out to tow us back, in about 20 minutes! And, as promised, Skip was out in 20 minutes did just that! Talk about saving the day... not to mention our marriage! We knew it was gonna cost big bucks for that tow, but didn't really care at that point. When asked how much we owed, Skip said just the cost of gas!!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT!?? Of course we compensated him an appropriate amount, but we NEVER imagined his response, when we asked how much we owed him! Nowadays, that's an open invitation to SOME folks to just gouge! In short (!) Bent's Camp Resort was HUGE in our 'rescue' effort, and is A-1 in our book. We HIGHLY recommend them! read more

Best part about this place is the atmosphere. Inside and out. It has a great vibe and northwoods resort feel. Drinks were good. Bloody Mary was standard. Food was average. Nothing to write home about. Wasn't bad but wasn't anything special. Burger was thin and dry. Not fresh, definitely frozen tasting. Service is marginal and not impressed with the food. We brought friends from out of town. We ordered cheese curds and they were way over cooked and tasted burnt. They should have never been sent out of the kitchen. We also ordered the breaded shrimp and the breading was terrible. Pizza was ok, nothing to write about. We spend 3 months in Land O Lakes every summer so Bent's camp is a must for lunch on their outdoor patio, Saturday night prime rib and attending Northwoods Music fest. Stopped in for a fish fry on a Friday( haven't been there in 2 years) around 4:30 to beat the summer rush, should have know when we went inside to eat and no one was there eating that something was up( normally it would be packed inside and out ) Now, there was outside tables but everyone was drinking & having Appetizers. Once we got to our table we saw that the fish fry is now served all day which we thought was great until we ordered the cod fish fry & the salad bar when we got to the salad bar there wasn't much of a selection ( it's not like it use to be) For the salad bar add on I wouldn't pay that again. When we got our fish it looked good but when we took a bite it was all a thick cake like batter breading , that's all we could taste. Fries were not that great too! Not sure why all this changed here but we will not be returning anytime soon for the fish fry! Not sure if we will even return as it takes us an hour to get there read more

LOVE Bent's! We go there at least twice during our annual family vacation. Food is always good. Service was ok but they (as with all businesses up north) are facing staffing challenges. Ah, I'd forgotten I'd even left a review a couple of years ago. Things haven't gotten better. Service is abysmal. You're lucky to flag anyone down once you've been served, since your server won't check on you regularly. The "all you can eat fish fry" is a farce because you'll never be asked if you want more fish, and if you're asked, you won't see it until after the staff comes to clear your plates. Same for extra ketchup, refills, etc. This doesn't change if it's packed or empty in the restaurant. The salad bar is pathetic, definitely not worth any additional cost if you're looking for a decent salad. It's never fully-stocked, and don't bother asking for more of anything that's empty, because you'll be told the kitchen is "too busy" cooking to prepare more hard boiled eggs, etc. Last time we actually ate in, I noticed that one of the bottles of condiments on the table was expired. I grabbed it and mentioned it to the waitress off to the side. She told me that they refill the bottles so the expiration date wasn't really the expiration date date. I decided to not take the chance. Every second time we've been there, the wine we've ordered (from an open bottle) has been bad (like vinegar) and we've had to send it back. I understand that the wine probably doesn't move as fast as the beer, but the bartender should have an idea of what they're sending out, and at least take a sniff of the bottle. So why have I been back so many times since my last review? My husband grew up going to Bent's and despite its shortcomings, it holds a sentimental place in his heart. Bent's will continue to be popular due to people who have gone for their entire lives. They're also one of the only places open during the winter months. However, during any other time of the year, there are better options in Land o'Lakes and Eagle River. However, my final straw was when we tried to do take out for 4th of July weekend. Called to ask if they were doing take out and was told they were. Called back (literally) five minutes later after getting the order together and were told they weren't doing take out. Said we'd just called five minutes before and were told that we could, and the reply was a snippy, "Well, that was five minutes ago." Posted a (rather mild) review on their Facebook page and am now blocked from commenting or posting on their page. Another review got a response from whenever handles their social media that their staff are not "vending machines." They're obviously missing the issue that them not being able to do takeout on a busy holiday weekend wasn't what ticked anyone off, it was the attitude of whomever answered the phone. We didn't think they'd be doing take out, which is why we called in the first place. Really, if you're looking for good food with a pleasant dining experience find another place. If you want a place to sit at a bar, Bent's will suffice. read more

My family and I went to Bent's for the first time this past Friday for the fish fry. We had an absolutely wonderful time. We got there early (5pm) to avoid the dinner rush. We started the evening at the bar for a cocktail, they make a great brandy old fashioned. After our drink we were able to immediately be seated. The lodge itself is a beautiful building, with dark wood and taxidermied animals of all varieties. Our server that evening was Lacy, and she was fantastic. Attentive, and accommodating she struck the perfect balance of ensuring we were well taken care of. Everyone at our table ordered the fish fry, with fried cheese curds as a starter (because Wisconsin). The curds were delicious and the large portion was plenty for our party of 6. The fish fry came out shortly there after. The fish was all perfectly cooked with a wonderful light beer batter. All the rest of the sides (potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, french fries, creamed corn, and a nice slice of rye bread), were great and complimented the meal. Thanks to all the staff, dinner was fantastic and a great way for us to start our weekend in the beautiful north-woods. read more

Wow! I can't believe Bent's is on Yelp. I LOVE IT! Bent's is way up in the northwoods. Good bar, good food, great people. They have live music and plenty of space to sit. The view of the lake is beautiful and it's definitely worth a stop in when you're in the area. Jody is one of the nicest bartenders I've ever met! We stayed at the Running Bear, but we ate here. The 4 of us at the table had Walleye 4 different ways. None of us were disappointed. And the salad bar was a flash from the past. Hadn't seen one this good since the 70s! We really liked our cabin at the other place and will probably come back. When we do, we will be headed over to Brent's for more Walleye. The only negative, don't get the sweet potato fries. Go with the baked or the garlic mashed, they were better. read more

I have been coming up to the Northwoods of Wisconsin for over 25 years, and Bent's is by far my favorite tavern. First of all, the place oozes history. Bent's has been around since 1896, when it literally was simply a fishing camp. Its main bar area was built in 1906, and it's a beauty, with its walls still papered with its orginal birchbark. The people are friendly, and the drink and food prices extremely reasonable. And the fish fry is the best I've had up here. Get here early on Friday or be prepared to wait. It's not that bad, however, if you wile away your wait time with a Minnow Bucket Martini or two. Be warned, you FIBs from the North Shore of Chicago. On Fridays the kitchen makes fish fry and pizza, and that's it (but why would you want anything else?). I there last Friday, and an overly-tanned and overdressed matron ( I am sure if I followed her back to her car, I would have seen a BMW with Illinois plates) was b*tching that they wouldn't serve her a Caesar salad. Eyes were rolling in unison around the bar. This turned into audible supressed laughter as she asked to see the wine list. Hey lady, go back to Wilmette where you can commune peaceably with your own species! Leave Bent's to the people who want to swap their fish stories and have a nice meal and a beer before going back to their cabin. My favorite Bent's story, though happened several years ago when my husband and I brought our 5-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter. They thought it was awesome that they were allowed to sit at the bar. Having sat through the "Blues Brothers" movie multiple times, my son exclaimed to the bartender, "Why, this is a BEAUTIFUL place you've got here, Bob!" as he climbed onto his stool.
