Another bonus was that I was staying at a hotel one street away. The barber was friendly and took meticulous care to make sure I got a great fade haircut. One of the best stylish fades I've ever had. The barber was also very friendly and the shop's ambiance was like the bar in Cheers where everyone knows your name. I also enjoyed watching The African Cup of Nations on television. Sam does my husbands hair and it's it's a cool shop with tvs, beverages, magazines, products and books. Definitely wife or girlfriend friendly for those that are being dragged along Sam was able to give my husband exactly what I wanted and cleaned it him nicely. Forgot to get a hair cut before my vacation and it was a Tuesday at 7pm. Luckily these guys were open! They stay open late which was a savior. I got a great cut, very clean fade, and they even trimmed around my beard. This is a true barber with great service, and all for a REALLY good price! All the other spots in Hayes Valley/Castro/Mission Bay charge $65-85 for a 20 minute cut. At Berber, they take their time and take pride in their work.. 45 minutes and it was about $45 plus tip. I had a walk in the other day and got a trim on my Afro and a light line up, and I have no qualms with the haircut at all I feel the barber did a good job but he was speaking on the phone for a majority of my haircut and I'm not sure if it's the blade he was using or just the lack of attention to my neck but it's been burning and feeling so irritated the past couple of days and I was just told by my brother I had a big cut on my neck and I realize that the barber was not paying enough attention to my head and was careless. I don't usually get my hair cut and again I was a walk in so I believe I wasn't treated with the decency of his other clients because of this and again he was more focused on his convo over the phone! read more

This is the barber shop I been going to since i moved to the city. normally, they get me right. i've had some of my best cuts ever at this shop and i plan on continuing to go here. but I will NEVER get a cut from adam (pronounced ad-ahm) again. Honestly this is partially my fault because I knew the cut was gona be trash before it even started. He asked me, after seeing the example pictures I showed him of the cut i wanted, "trimmer for the sides scissors for the top?" If your barber is asking you how to cut your hair, RUN AWAY at full speed. I knew that going in but i wanted to give the new guy a chance. BIG MISTAKE. This was like the only time i didn't come into the shop with my hair freshly conditioned. So it needed a bit of detangling. Instead of applying some product, and working through the very minimal tangles (i conditioned the night before) he damn near rips out my scalp over the course of the 35 minute cut. This was by far the most PAINFUL haircut of my life. I almost shed a tear but I'm a real one so i sucked it back in. Never had this problem with any barber ever and i used. he didn't even grab the base of the hair and work through em he was just damn near ripping my scalp up the entire time. So how was the cut? pain is one thing, honestly if the cut was fire I wouldn't be complaining. I'm not the complaining type. this is the first review I've ever written about anything because that adam dude had the balls to ask me to give him a good review after. well here's my review of the cut, yknow what? why don't i just let my girlfriends reaction when i got home do the talking. She literally said "what did they do to you!?" then she deadas started roasting me for my cut. I'm so serious, i was tryna say like it's not that bad really tho right? No response... long pause.. "yea it's not like horrible" bro... this gotta be the worst haircut experience i ever had. needless to say, normally I get my hair cut by one of the other guys in the shop, and I always have great experiences , especially for the price. but this was horrible. my head still hurts and it's been like 3 hours. read more

It's a decent barber. It's has a chill atmosphere with some sort of tennis game always on. Music playing in background. They do good cuts but don't do walk ins. I came here 3/4 times now doing a walk in and giving it a chance. Every time there has been something wrong with the cut and I always need to talk to the other barber to somehow get it translated back to my guy to have it still come out weird. Sides were not symmetrical and this guy didn't even wash his hands before he started. So many inconsistency's and by the end of it I just wanted to leave. So like everyone, I waited until the last minute for a haircut and called up many different barbershops only to find myself about to be out of luck for an important event. I luckily found this one on trusty old Yelp and called them up. Although with only 45 mins to go till close, and already attending to one person, the guys in the shop told me to come in. Came by here to try a new barber and I'm a bit disappointed. Although the service here was great and the barbers were nice, the barber who cut my hair messed it up. My line up was pushed back to the point of no return which truly disappointed me because my barber was nice. The barber did a great job with lining my beard and doing the fade perfectly! I loved the ambiance of this shop and the prices were reasonable for SF standards. But if I'm paying $70 for a haircut, I expect my hairline not to be pushed back. Because of the service and ambiance of the place, I'm willing to go to this barbershop again, but try a different barber. read more

My first and last time ever visiting this shop. I went in this afternoon for a simple fade and had a terrible experience. The shop was empty and there was only one barber. The barber was careless and nonchalant, giving me a fade that looked nothing like what's shown on the yelp page. I asked for a 1-2 low fade but what I got was a simple 1 from bottom to top (no fade). It also cut into the crown, distorting the hair shape. The barber was rough, rushed, and reckless - completing the "fade" in less than 5 minutes. Overall I would not recommend coming in. The expectations set by this yelp page do not represent the reality of this shop. read more
