As a chemotherapy patient for breast cancer, I had no time or energy to go to a traditional barber shop. I was also a little intimidated mentally to go into a barber shop full of men as a woman to get a hair cut. I'm so glad I found Notch on Google for the Luxgroom Mobile Barber Shop. I literally called him Wednesday night for an on-demand appointment on Thursday morning. When he arrived I was amazed and so were others that passed by the van. We had a lot of curious people who were amazed by the van and barber shop inside that stopped and made comments about how cool the van was. It's like a luxury barber shop inside where you're the only client plus there's room for one more person if you bring someone along. The barber Notch is a pro and knows clearly how to make you look your best. So I waited about 3 weeks to write this review in hopes that someone would contact me to somehow fix the issue but that didn't happen so here's my long story. Was a great barbershop before pandemic. Often was late starting the appointment but no bd. Went to them last year during the pandemic while they still had a shop. Great experience and even left an extra tip because times were/are hard and I'd been going there for a year at that point. Fast forward to a couple of weeks. Went through the booking site, the same way I've done since day one. First thing I noticed was the dramatic price increase which I was willing to do. Obviously it's hard for a lot of us to stay afloat right now. Ended up charging me close to $70 right then and there which is a little different compared to other places which will charge you after your cut or if you miss the appointment. Also if people expect a tip, that's $80 for a cut which is outrageous for a fade. I was aware they were doing mobile now so I decided to double check and see where the appointment is exactly. The schedule site which took my money did not give me an exact address but a location in front of city hall. Went to city hall, could not find them. Called the phone, no answer. By this point my appointment has passed and now the location has disappeared. Called again, no answer. Went to their Instagram where they had just posted a story recently so I DM'd them. No response. Called again and tried to leave a voicemail but the mailbox is full. Not knowing what to do now, I even walked all the way back to the old place to see if someone might be around which they weren't. At this point I'm annoyed so as a last resort, I comment on their page "is there a phone that someone actually picks up? Would like to know how to fix my appointment" or something like that. The next day, I noticed my comment had been removed and yet no one had contacted me at that point so that wasn't a good look. When I finally get a text, was expecting something like "hey man! Saw there was a mixup. Sorry about that. What can we do to help". Nothing like that. Instead I was asked if I booked through their app and did I get the email that was sent mid pandemic? Also to next time make sure I use the app... why is the customer getting blamed for the booking website not showing where they are? Why have the booking website if it doesn't even tell me how to find you? I get there's an app but if that was the only way to find where they are, why did my money still get taken? Explained how I tried multiple ways of contacting them and the booking website gives the location but no one was there and ended with, the whole thing seemed a little considering and how can we fix this sense my money was taken but no haircut... got ghosted after that. Super disappointed. We are all struggling. My money was taken and they made it seem like it was my fault because I didn't use their app or read a random email that may have been sent during the pandemic. Seems a little shady to take my money but won't pick up the only phone number available and are putting it on me because I didn't use an app. The website that took my money should be enough especially if I don't even have a smart phone. Great pre pandemic but things got a little sloppy and I won't be going back. read more

Notch has been cutting my hair for a couple of years now. Dispight the fact that moved out of SF (and no longer work in the City), I still make the trek because Notch is a great barber. Notch can be a man of few words, and a couple of reviewers seem to find that irritating. I got my haircut here over Memorial Day Weekend while I was in town for a wedding. I was nervous about going to a new barber but Notch did an amazing job! The price is probably higher than most other cities (more expensive than DC) but I can understand why, it's SF. The cut was worth the money and I ended up referring the rest of the groomsmen here after their scheduled appointment was messed up. On Tuesday November 20th I made a reservation for a clipper haircut with Eric for Wednesday the 21st, when you book online you have to enter a credit card and given that I needed a cut before the holiday I didn't mind doing so. I woke up on the morning of the 21st to a Cancellation Notice email at 7:38am. No explanation, no other availability options just straight up cancelled the day off. Don't go to Details if you do not like socializing. Everyone there is ready to engage in conversation, tell some jokes, have some laughs, and have fun. I've seen Nicky the Barber cut some really rad mullets and Mohawks. Notch runs a very nice shop, and guys like Kyle and Donte are making people look sharp, left and right. The guys at Details are capable of cutting anyone's hair, and they do a damn good job of it. I recommend this place for any hairstyle. If you want to get your hair cut at a place you can go to relax, bullshit, and have fun, go to Details. All jokes aside, when I first got a haircut from Nicky the Barber, it was like the first time I had ever had my hair cut. He is a pro. One of the worst barbershop. I came around 12pm the Only owner of the business was cutting hair. The owner didn't have any great customer service. Didn't acknowledge me while I walked in I ask him if there any wait time. The owner informed that there will be second barber coming at 1. I leave come back around 1 there owner still didn't say anything to me. I sit down then 15 seconds going by then no respond finally he asked for my name to put in the schedule. I still waited the second barber. The second still haven't show up. So I waited for awhile. I looked at the time it's been a hour since I waited. So I told I'm going to take off the owner said the second barber was barely getting off Bart. I don't understand why is there only one person cutting people hairs. read more

I made a appointment for a 10am and arrived 10 minutes early since they reportedly opened at 930. Barber arrived a few minutes after 10 and apparently their already was someone else waiting and he just proceeded to cut their hair first. By 1030 I decide to leave since I have a meeting at 11. Then, when it was my turn the gentleman that was supposed to cut my hair decided to take someone without an appointment before me for a quick beard trim. I waited for 1/2 hour before the rude black guy asked if I had an appt. when I told him that I didn't, he then skipped me to took another customer. His whole attitude was rude and discriminatory. I've been coming here for a month or two now and I have been more than satisfied each time. I've been to a number of barbers in the city, including FSC in the Mission, and none match up to the guy at Details. In addition to the good quality, the prices are good as well. He does a great job lining me up with the straight razor and always has me looking very sharp. Both my wife and friends have given me compliments for how good it looks after I have been here. I don't trust anyone else with my hair now. The location is good too; from the 12th floor, it has a nice view of the area around Union Square, as well as views of the bay and part of AT&T Park. I haven't had any issues with not being able to get in at the times I want and have only had to wait 1 time, for 10 minutes, while there. As previously mentioned, the prices are more than agreeable -- $25 for the haircut (a #2 all the way around) and to line me up with the straight razor. When I went to FSC in the Mission, they wanted to charge me something like $35 for the haircut (a #2 length all the way around) and when I just wanted to have a #2 done for my whole beard as well, they wanted to charge another $40 for that, "If they had to touch the beard at all." If I wanted to have it lined with a straight razor, that was going to be extra as well. Maybe it's just me, but over $70 for a damn #2 all the way around and to line me up? No thank you. Not to mention the person did a horrendous job lining me up at FSC. After seeing the quality of the work he does, I understand why he calls the place "Details Barbershop" -- because he most definitely pays attention to detail! And when it comes to my hair, that's exactly what I want. If you are looking for a place to get a quality haircut at a good price and with a good view of the city to boot, I would HIGHLY recommend coming here. You will not be disappointed. read more

I was excited about my first ever shave, which didn't disappoint. The hot towel, steam and gentle exfoliation, all taking place within an ever-present yet unacknowledged threat of decapitation, made for an amazing experience (and shave). I plan to make this just the first of an ongoing indulgence. The surprise though was the haircut. I've reached the point where the street's been busy for so long that very little grass grows. This doesn't bother me in itself, but it leads to unpleasant choices. Do you crop it completely, which I thought was the kindest approach aesthetically, yet requires quite a lot of maintenance and expense? Do you engage in magical thinking and convince yourself that your comb-over will succeed where others failed? Do you dress up as Mr. Clean each and every day? None of the above, so I've discovered. You just go see Notch. He did a beautiful blend or maybe it's a taper in the back that created texture and a facsimile of volume and found the sweet spot for the length(s) of those buggers on top that stick straight up when cut too short and droop toward the comb-over side if left too long. The result is something close to a styled, sharp head of hair. There was no fuss. Nice unforced talk and comfortable silence, punctuality and courtesy. I'm a new and future customer. read more

Found my new barber. Notch came highly recommended from my buddy who said he was the best and he didn't disappoint. I was a little hesitant at first to put down the extra money as im used to putting down less than $18 at a local barber shop, but this was well worth it, definitely a master of his craft. You may not think it, but there are drastic differences. He can essentially do any cut you want, just tell him. If I had a beard I would probably get my beard cut from him as well. Also love what he did to the place, had photos of the G.O.A.T - MJ, all across the room and that in itself was dope. Unhappy with the service. Cut wasn't what I wanted. Barber agreed to make changes later if needed. Friends pointed out the sides look weird... no biggie, I've had barbers touch up hair before. Messaged barber a couple of days later asking if he was available to fix the hair and he was extremely uncooperative - suggested I go somewhere else! I asked for a partial refund and he declined. Found Notch on Yelp. With no personal recommendation I took a shot and it worked out. He's the real deal -- good small shop in a great location. The haircut was solid for a clipper cut. I could benefit from a scissor trim at the end to clean up stray hairs but to be honest I didn't ask (or pay extra for) a scissor cut. Some barbers need a couple more classes on How to Run a Business 101. Notch is well aware he's the only good barber in town so he is slack sometimes on his good business practices. I come to see Notch from Palo Alto on the semi-regular. I deal with Notch bc the man can cut. You don't need to LIKE your barber to get a haircut. That describes my experience with Notch. Dude is Floyd Mayweather Jr: one singular exceptional talent but a lot of other elements of his business ain't worth a gd.. His bedside manner ain't worth a gd. I'm only posting this review bc he denied this situation happened: Notch showed up to his shop w/o the keys to his shop. He left them in an Uber and had to go somewhere to get a key. I was left waiting with another client. Notch walked up to that client and explained the situation but I was left in the dark. Again Notch doesn't give a gd if he doesn't like you. You know how these barbers are. I waited for him bc I drove all the way from Palo Alto. Most business owners in this situation would offer an apology or an explanation or a discount for the inconvenience. I received nothing. Two hours later I sat in his chair and received a haircut. I laughed as I listened to the same shit talk and got sold the same woof tickets as always. Basic barber shop stuff. Not even a penny of remorse. I expected no better than what I got. Notch later denied this episode even happened and thus you receive this Yelp review brotha. Another client told me Notch regularly gives free haircuts when he is inconveniently late. Hmm.
