I have had Cataract surgery on both of my eyes by Dr. Spangler and now have 20-20 Vision in both. Having worn glasses since third grade I don't know how to act. First of all let me say, I recently had cataract surgery done by Dr. Adam Spengler at Berkeley Eye Center in Corpus Christi. The results and care were outstanding, however, the treatment you get at the front desk is very off putting. The two receptionists do not smile and barely make eye contact with you. Theyact like you're an inconvenience. After my first check- up after surgery, I had to make a follow up appointment. I could not take the first appointment, so the receptionist asked me about another time which, unfortunately was on top of another doctors appointment that I already had. She actually stopped typing and gave me a dirty look. I could not believe it! I took the appointment just to get out of there and now I have to change my other doctor appointment. I unfortunately do not have a name or I would listed it here. She was the dark-haired lady not the one with the gray hair, but both are extremely rude and do a great disservice to a facility that otherwise is excellent. 3 Stars because of the front desk. read more

I went in a for an evaluation for Lasik surgery. I did not like the interaction I had on the phone call leading up to the appt. The female was very cold and not helpful. During the appt., I had interaction with the receptionist and 2 of the "nurses". I really did not like the staff or how they spoke to me. There is such a thing as bedside manner. I've been going to ophthalmologists for years for my glaucoma. I move to Rockport two years ago and found this office as recommended by my former ophthalmologist in Los Angeles through her group of contacts. This office is unparalleled in customer service. Their efficiency is outstanding. It is well worth the 45 minute drive I have to make each time as I know I'll be taken care of. Berkeley Eye Center in Corpus Christi was such a great experience. I have worn glasses for 56 years. Dr. Spengler was able to correct my vision problems. I had new lens implanted in both eyes. His staff was remarkable to work with. They explained everything, set up my surgery and followed up with me. Dr. Spengler did a fantastic job correcting my vision. Two weeks ago I came in for a Lasik consult and in less than an hour I not only completed the consult, but I had a surgery date scheduled and they squeezed in my presurgery appointment so I didn't have to worry about coming back. Since that first appointment I've had surgery and 2 postoperative appointments. They staff has been so friendly and they work like a well oiled machine. I haven't had to wait more than 5 minutes to be seen. They have you in and out so fast you don't have to worry about wasting your day at one appointment. I am schedule for surgery! I am excited! The experience has been awesome so far. Both of my encounters with the woman at the front desk are disappointing. People are nervous about eye surgery and they are spending a lot of money. Such a class act place, has a classless woman greeting you. She is short, no welcome, no manners, and unkind. Referred by my doctor over a year ago for diabetic exam. Receptionist informed cost due to no insurance of $160.00. After exam I was charged $40.00 more. Questioning different person behind counter she said she didn't give me that price and the one that did was not there. Got PRK done in both eyes and the end result is AMAZING! No more waking up nearly blind, no more contacts, no more glasses just excellent vision. They do both LASIK and PRK procedures, the people there are very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. They provided eye protection, eye drops and clear instruction on how to achieve the best results. They use the latest excimer laser technology that tracks your iris as it is working and uses the "wavefront" technology to map your eye out. I went from -4.0 nearsightedness both eyes (20/200) to what feels like "normal" vision (20/30 as of today) and it has only been 3 weeks! What a joke. I the nurse took my info to the Doctor came out and said my eyes are complex and they could not due anything for them. Then she said I needed to go see an eye doctor to check them. I explained that I had just seen a doctor the day before and he said my eyes are OK with no real issues. What bothers me if they can not make a buck off of you they do not care about your eye s at all. Any real doctor would have taken the time to speak to me and do a further exam if they cared. I am a past patient and loved when I had my Lasik performed. But the office staff uses a very condescending tone with me when I ask a simple question of " Approximately how long should Lasik last?" Well first the lady who I spoke with first tells me well because your in your 40s + you will start losing your up close vision. Then she tells me Let me get the nurse to help you since I'm not coming across correctly. Instead of the nurse coming onto the phone the office manager then comes on and tries to tell me I more than likely have cataracts and that is why my distance vision is now going again. Wow! Dr Spiengler you really need a better personnel system in place for such a simple question. ALL I wanted was a simple answer but no. When I had my Lasik done I was told then it would last at least 10 years if not longer. It has only been 3 years and my distance vision is failing.
