Before coming to Berkeley hills dental, it had been several years since I had last had a dental check up. I came in concerned about an ongoing tooth situation that would eventually require a dental implant. I was also super nervous that my mouth was full of cavities since it'd been so long since my last check up. From start to finish, everyone was so understanding, welcoming and explained everything in detail which helped to alleviate my anxiety. They are upfront about all costs and present all options for procedures so that I can make my own informed decisions. It's been almost a year now since my dental implant and my dental health has never been better. My implant and crown are absolutely perfect! I genuinely look forward to going to my cleanings now and I owe that to everyone at Berkeley hills dental. We had a fantastic experience with this dentist and everyone who worked there after our son fell off his scooter and broke several teeth. I have never been treated with less patient care in any professional medical setting than through this dentist, whose name (his name) is escaping me. I came in for a filling last year -- not only did I need to end up having the filling replaced (which cost me an additional $180), but I was under severe distress from the procedure and the adrenaline that was in the lidocaine anesthetic. Instead of empathizing and approaching me with proper consideration, his method was aggressive and lacking compassion. After a two year hiatus I went back to Berkeley Hills Dentak Care for repair of a (one) cavity. Before the work started, I was given a bill to sign for $185. It seemed a little high but I hadn't been to the dentist in two years. The dentist did a fine job. However the bill was presented, it was for $380 - for two cavities. After I protested that I came in for one cavity and if there had been two, the dentist should have told me. Eventually, I ended up paying for one. BEWARE of this bait and switch. I have only seen Dr. Fariba and have never had any issues. She treats her patients as if they are her family. The office in general does not attempt to sell their customers unnecessary treatments, as I have experienced with other dental practices. Dental companies in general have complaints regarding the receptionists. Sometimes no one answers my call, but I do not expect someone to be available to answer the phone every single time. There are other patients with needs as well. I have also never cancelled an appointment so I do not know about any issues regarding additional fees and rescheduling. The office is busy so appointments need to be booked far in advance. I have remained a patient with the Berkeley Hills Dental due to the proper care I have received. My interests/needs pertain to the actual Dr's/professionals within a field, not the auxiliary staff. read more

I've always felt like I am hanging out with friends and family. The office staff are so great and funny and warm and courteous. I've been a patient for Dr. Ansari for over 10 years since the Berkeley Hills Dental was recommended by my friend. Since then I've been very happy with their generous services and meticulous treatment. Dr. Ansari is very gentle and patient, always makes sure that I'm feeling comfortable. Licensed as a cosmetic dentist, she provided me not only the regular dental hygiene or cavity treatment but also the cosmetic dentistry. Now my teeth are whiter than ever, thanks to Veneer!! The assistant, Souki, is funny, cheerful, and also professionally knowledgeable. Secretary Jose spends tremendous time and effort to make sure that I'm receiving an affordable but effective treatment. This was one of the easiest and smoothest dental cleaning I've ever had. Special kudos to Dr. Cheung and the assistant Maryam. I haven't seen Dr. C around the dental office before, and he looked new, but afterwards I felt I couldn't be in more reliable hands. Usually I'm in pain and flailing everywhere, but Dr. C made it very comfortable. Maryam did an excellent job assisting, cleaning afterwards, while also keeping up great conversation. I first went to Berkeley Hills Dental when Dr. Teheri was there - these folks take my insurance - LOW FEE. Dr. Taheri left and I was upset because I cant stand going to the dentist, basic fear - Another dentist stepped in sometime earlier this year and I was considering going somewhere else. I went back for my scheduled appointment and yet another dentist was there to see me - Dr. Chuang. AMAZING and what inspired me to write this review, normally I don't take the time. I have complete confidence in Dr. Chuang, he tells me everything he's doing BEFORE he does it, checks in with me now and then to see how. I'm doing, answers any and all questions I have, explains what's happening and is EXCELLENT - no pain, no stress, awesome. I have to go back for two fillings in a couple of weeks and am not concerned in the least. I hope Dr. Chuang stays w Berkeley Dental forever, and if he leaves I'm following him. I was very very lucky indeed about four years ago or so when a woman at my kids' school told me about Dr. Taheri and Berkeley Hills Dental Care. Dr. Taheri is an extremely skilled dentist and matter of fact in the way he works. He has done all the work on my teeth over the last four years with extreme care. He has also been very kind despite all my sensitivities. I highly recommend this office. I also like the front office staff. Especially Jose, who has been super flexible and kind to my family. I chose this office because they take DeltaCare USA and take new patients. I was seen here for about a year by Dr Ansari and had two crowns done with them, a few weeks apart. The overall experience really poor. I have mostly had positive experiences with dentists (thankfully), but from the hygenist (who I thought was rough and not careful, making the work painful), to taking a long time to get an appointment. After the procedure, both crowns have continued to be painful for me for months, including irritated gums around them. I had a follow up visit where Dr Ansari thought that the pain was because the nerve was irritated. I didn't feel like she was taking my concerns seriously. I basically only went there because the crown with DeltaCare was $650, as opposed to my previous dentist (whom I LOVED) which was $1400. But, I get what I paid for a I guess. I finally went back to my old dentist and asked him to look at them - he said that they are fitted poorly and the edge of the crown is not flush with the edge of tooth, creating a ledge that will continue to irritate the gum and be an area where plaque can accumulate. There's basically nothing I can do to fix it aside from redoing the crowns. He also adjusted my bite by grinding down the crowns and it already feels better. read more

This place sucks. They never return phone calls, even when you leave several voicemails. After almost a year of not going to the dentist because of the pandemic, they finally gave us an appointment in "August" and from nowhere they cancelled our appointment a day before and re-scheduled it 3 months later. My husband had a tooth emergency and called twice and left voicemails and he is still waiting for them to call him back. I called a different dentist and they gave us an appointment the same day. I went to BHDC because the dentist I preferred and who was close never seemed able to work with my dental insurance. I even added anther dental insurance policy, to no avail. Now I'm very glad this happened. The entire staff at Berkeley Hills is friendly and capable. Jose, worked out all my insurance issues and explained everything clearly to me. He is often very busy, but takes the time to help me. I found Dr. Taheri to be very friendly, gentle and extreamly capable. Beatrix and Dawn are also frendly and are exellent at what they do. So far the work I have had done (a bridge) has been great. Hey I can chew again! I have to go back for more, but do not dread it as I once did. Excellent people, excellent place. read more

It's hard to review a dental office because, I mean, who likes going to the dentist? I ended up here because of limited health care options and was first assigned to Dr. Ansari. She was away when I went for my first visit so I saw Dr. Taheri. He seemed fine. It was a cleaning at first, no biggie and a follow up with a filling. I told him I was nervous and he numbed me completely and did a great job. He walked me through what he was doing and what I should be feeling. The next time I went back he was gone and Dr. Ansari was there. Another filling. I don't know what she was doing in there but OUCH! It felt like she just kept stuffing the amalgam into my tooth. I was sore for days. I've since switched to Dr. Taheri permanently and so far so good... though I'm never thrilled to go to the dentist. As a secondary part to this review I will say that the receptionist is rather bitchy. She acts like she owns the world and since that office is her little world you better shut up and sit tight. If you happen to get a 1:00pm appointment, be forewarned that the office is closed from noon-1 and the door will be locked. Should it be accidentally left unlocked she will promptly kick you out because they are not open yet. I have seen her actually slam the door shut as someone tried to open it because it was only 12:57 and their lunch wasn't over yet. I've tried to be nice, but she's just not a friendly person. read more

I like Dr. Ansari, she's very polite and the assistants do a good job and listen to you. No lectures about your dental hygiene here. Also, I've never had a problem with the receptionists. But, I do have one big complaint, which is the cleanliness. Being a dentist's office, I expect it to be immaculate. however, while the equipment may be sterile, the counters, sink, floor, shelves, etc are pretty damn scary. Even the light they use to look into your mouth is so dirty the handles are brown. It just freaks me out. Got two fillings recently. One was fine, no problems. The other was on my wisdom tooth and, while I'm sure it was tricky, there was too much filling put in the tooth and it created a sharp ridge on the side of my tooth which constantly traps food and is driving me nuts! Going in on Monday to have it sanded down. Fingers crossed. read more

Dr.Taheri and his staff actually are kind, explain what they are doing and compassionate in the way they care for you. I wish there was a 0-star option, because Dr. Nikfarjam was horrible. Just horrible. I went in for a filling. He didn't numb me properly, and then didn't believe that I could still feel his drilling. He told me I was only afraid of the sound of the drill. I was in so much pain, I was crying. And believe me, those drugs work just fine on me; I wasn't making up the pain. The filling fell out (no kidding) less than a year later. There was no way in hell that I was going back to Mr. Nik-poop-jam, so I went to Dr. David 'five-star' Concepcion instead. This is a hard review to write because I really did like Dr. Taheri & his assistant (the older woman) was really nice but... Yes here it comes! I saw Dr. Taheri twice in the last two weeks, once for a eval the second time to get two fillings. If I was writing this review on my first visit I would have given them one star for several reasons. FIRST: Dr. Taheri finished his exam, told me I need one root canal & possibly another then he said he would take another X-Ray & let me know about the second one, then he just walked away. I didn't think anything of it until his assistant (the younger one) all but kicked me out of the exam room. I attempted to explain to her that the Dr. was going to look at my X ray & come back but she just kept saying "yes & you need two root canals" after the third time I got frustrated & went out to the desk to speak to someone who understood english. Honestly I really hate when a person just keeps responding by telling you "yes" but then repeating the wrong info. I was so annoyed as she shoe'd me out. Once at the desk she reported to the receptionist that I needed 2 root canals & gave me a referral. & at this point I was getting pissed because at $425 a pop, I want to make sure that the actual Dr. is telling me this. I explained what was going on the the office manager & he was essentially unresponsive, he said "yea, the Dr. Is looking at the Xray now". So I'm like OK, & I take a seat, about 15 minutes later they call me up to tell me that the Dr. said I need only 1 root canal. I was like THAT WAS WHAT I WAS TRYING TO TELL YOU! UGH... so annoying. To add to all this the front desk women is incredibly rude. As I sat there for the 15 minutes before my appointment & 15 after I heard her take many phone calls I was really disappointed that I listed them as my insurance primary. Fast forward one week & I went back in to get my two fillings done, again Dr. Taheri was very nice and again the front desk rude (but not as much) I had a different assistant & she was really nice. My fillings were completed & off went the Dr. No goodbye, no you're done come back for this or that... nothing. I do have to give them props for fitting me in on the 1st of the month (which was the day my insurance began) & giving me a referral to a great endodontist for the root canal & it's these two things along with Dr. Taheri's niceness is what gave them the two extra stars. All, in all... I doubt they replaced the rude reception people, I think it's more likely that the last reviewer caught miss nasty of one of her good days because there was nothing that indicated anything "nice" about this woman's demeanor. Not sure if I'll go back now that my "emergency" work has been taken care of, might just change to another dentist. read more

As somebody who is stressed by the dentist, I can say that Dr Ansari and her entire staff not only do a great job, but also put you at ease

If there were more dentists like Dr. Taheri the world would be a better place. We wouldn't dread going to the dentist. We would embrace a life of clean, healthy teeth and gums. There would be less stanky breath and more beautiful smiles. I have never felt so comfortable in the dentist's chair as I have at Berkeley Hills Dental Care. The staff is professional and friendly. Dr. Taheri is gentle, asks you "are you ok" periodically and makes you feel at ease. It is never pleasant to have your teeth and gums pricked and prodded, but Dr. Taheri makes it a painless breeze and your outta there before you know it. He also chit-chats which makes you feel a little more connected to your dentist, rather than a mouth-invasive stranger that makes you feel awkward. This keep me coming back. Additionally, this office is one of the few that accepts DeltaCare USA, which is the ghetto dental insurance I have, compared to the Delta PPO plan which covers less but has a larger network. Thanks to Yelp I discovered this dental office and have been a patient for over a year now. Finding a good dentist like Dr. Taheri is like finding a good mechanic or hairdresser. You hit the jackpot and you never let go. read more

I love this place. I've been searching for my home dentist office for all of my twenties and am sooo glad to have finally found it. They're honest and competent! Dr. Tehari immediately creates a good impression -- he strikes me as intelligent, honest and even somewhat humorous. He'll speak to you like a real person -- an equal -- none of that ridiculous condescension or strangely political double-speak one sometimes receives from medical professionals. I'll admit the receptionist has her own special sort of vibe that might be misunderstood as gruff -- this is a cover! She is a sweetheart! She'll break your bill down for you anyway you like -- no bullshit -- no padding. They even threw in my x-rays for free when I went because I'd had such a negative experience at my last dentist office I couldn't manage to get them and my plan only covered once a year. 5/22/08 Minus two stars for the $45 missed appt fee. I understand missed appt fees but $45? Especially when they've played with my appointment time? Ah, its better than sitting there for three hours, though. read more

I was VERY nervous about picking a dentist and I used the Yelp reviews to aid in my search. I think people are more likely to post bad experiences/poor reviews than good ones for a dentist. My experience at Berkeley Hills Dental Group and with Dr. Taheri was totally pleasant. No complaints. The receptionist called me with a reminder and was nice when I got to the office. The assistants who did x-rays, floss, and polishing were considerate and friendly. The Doctor himself did his thing- it wasn't painful, and he offered some helpful hints to me. Honestly, the whole experience was painless and quick. Finding a dentist is tough and I would recommend Dr. Taheri/Berkeley Hills to folks. My only complaint is parking. Street parking is scarce/nonexistent. I had to park in the pay lot attached to the building and it cost me $4 cash (no cards accepted). read more

Simply put: I have DeltaCare USA which is great because it covers everything, and Berkeley Hills Dental was the best rated dentist that took my insurance. Their office is clean and comfortable, the employees were friendly, and they didn't try to sell me anything! I did arrive 20 minutes early because it was my first time and I knew I had paperwork to fill. Sadly, I waited until about 20 minutes after my appointment (so plan accordingly). Once seated, everything went smoothly. I received x rays, a teeth cleaning, and a goody bag. The doctor seemed knowledgeable and approachable. I left feeling clean and confident in my oral health. Tip: book early! I called them late March and they happened to have had a cancelation that day, but their next appointment was June! I have been going to Berkeley Hills Dental for several years now and have had nothing but good experiences. The hygienists are always efficient, friendly and competent, and the dentist is a good listener. They are always on time and I've never been able to wait more than a minute or two in the pleasant reception area. My husband had a chipped front tooth, and while they suggested a permanent repair with a veneer and teeth whitening which would have cost quite a bit, they were happy to do the single tooth repair that was covered by our insurance, and did a great job, and it's lasted for 3 years with no problems. read more

I REALLY, REALLY wish they would make the receptionist go through a customer service course or fire her. She is gruff, obnoxious and downright rude. I agree.. but for entirely different reasons. Their entire office is absolutely incompetent. They screwed up my Blue Cross insurance and said I would have to pay the bills and mail them to Blue Cross. Which was absolutely incorrect, and a call to Blue Cross and another dentist reassured me Berkeley Hills doesn't know what they're doing. When I told the receptionist this and to cancel my future appointment with them, she hung up on me and when I tried to call again, she wouldn't pick up the phone. I see Dr. Taheri, and I've had nothing but good experiences here. He's never berated me for skipping a couple days of flossing or scoffed at my teeth and told me I need a deep cleaning or tried to sell me any other procedures I didn't feel like I needed. The crabby receptionist is gone, but she just made me laugh anyways. Since I have been going here, I have not had any more cavities like I used to get when I went to my old dentist, and the work Dr. T. did when I first went to this office for the first time maybe three years ago is still in place and comfortable. I have recently moved to the bay area from out of state where I had a top of the line dentist so I had concerns about finding a good dentist. Dr. Hassan Teheri and his staff were awesome. Everyone was super nice and Dr. Teheri did my cleaning himself and was very gentle and explained the condition of my teeth as he went as well as gave me tips for my dental care. I think if you have any fear of the dentist (I do not), you should try this dentist as he is very gentle and kind! The 2 assistants were also thorough and gentle. read more

Dr. Teheri is great: gentle, thoughtful, and a very good communicator. He does just enough, but no more than you need. I had a negative experience with another doctor on staff, though. I don't remember her name. While I was seeing Teheri, my son saw a female dentist who recommended he get checked by an orthodontist for possible braces. My son is only 5 and has his baby teeth; his "problem," an alleged underbite, is barely detectable. There are only two teeth that seem just slightly in a less-than-ideal place. The idea of even considering braces in such a situation seemed absurd to me. When I asked Dr. Teheri, he concurred and advised me to revisit the issue when the kid is 10, not before. 5 stars for Teheri and 2 stars for the gal. All in all, I'll give the practice 4 stars because my experience with them has been quite positive except for this one incident. read more

I saw Dr. Nikfarjan for several years at this practice and thought he was the best general dentist I had ever had, although I eventually left for another dental practice because the woman who schedules appointments was occasionally unreasonable and inflexible, which did not work for me. They required that prophy appointments be scheduled several months in advance, and then it was very difficult to change an appointment closer to the date. I never have this problem with my new dental office. However, I am writing this because today I received a letter from the practice and I see that Dr. Nik's name is no longer mentioned as being a member there. You might want to call and verify if your aim is to see him. read more
