Apparently their realtors don't know how to read. Giant sign on my door says no soliciting and she was too stupid to understand it or too much of an AH to pay attention. Either way, it reflects poorly on the company having representatives like that making the first impression for your company. After calling to inquire about a listing I was happily helped by Paul who forwarded my preapproval letter and was always responsive. However the listing agent Ameila was very difficult to work with. She didn't respond until the following day. Amelia made me feel uncomfortable with condescending remarks to me because I told her I had already submitted my preapproval to Paul - presumably her co-agent. She was also annoyed when I said, I saw the photos online and simply would like to schedule a tour. She kept saying she will see when it's available (meanwhile two open houses where posted quickly there after). In the end, her smugish attitude turned me off and I took my business elsewhere. As a direct buyer, I have never encountered such unprofessionalism from an agent at any company. I never got to tour the listing. I also blocked the agent once she realized I knew Paul and she tried to change her attitude. A lot of this was via text and one phone call. All buyers should be treated with respect and given equal opportunity to view a property. This lady puts her firm's license at risk and should be heavily monitored/ re-trained. read more

I used Laurie Miller as my agent to purchase a new construction home in Paso Robles. From the first time I met her she was very personable and extremely professional. I was new to the area so she became my tour guide. She asked me many questions about my home preferences and even asked to see pictures of my prior home to give her a better idea of my needs. We finally found a new construction home in PR that I decided to purchase. The escrow was longer and much more complicated due to the incompetence of the seller's agent. We used Laurie Miller from Berkshire Hathaway to sell our home. She assured us she knew how to add our Solar Panel loan into our purchasing agreement, so we would no longer be liable for them. We provided all of the solar information prior to accepting an offer and she told us she consulted with experts at her work and not to worry. Weeks after and right before closing she tells us that the buyers just refused to assume the loan and that we were out $20,000. After having our documents reviewed by an outside party, we found that she never wrote in our solar and tried to add it after everyone had signed...the buyers refused the addendum and she lied to us leading us to believe everything was fine until weeks later and we had already moved out. We asked Berkshire Hathaway to help us try to come up with a solution and they refused. Buyer Beware/ Seller Beware!!! Will never do business with them or their fraudulent employees!!! read more

I would have cancelled along time ago based on customer service, but I'm still with them due to the best rates. Last year they went up on my rates $1000 which turns out they didn't have to, they were able to research it and discover they didn't have to raise my rates that much. Hmm, I wonder why they didn't figure that out before or were they hoping I would pay it with out complaining. In addition to that, every year when they change the policy #, they mysteriously can't find my checks, although by bank shows when they reached their destination. So I call BH, put stop payments & resubmit. They eventually find them, charge me NSF fees & late fees and will not reverse even though I have spoken to them and let them know what is going on before hand. read more

I worked with Jeff Stelzl in buying a straw bale property this summer near Paso Robles. The buying process lasted over three months due to the approval process that banks took to OK a straw bale home, and most importantly, due to the fact that we were really dealing with a very difficult seller. Most realtors would have given up on the process but Jeff patiently shepherded the process to its conclusion. Moreover, months after the deal has been closed I can still rely on Jeff to offer advice on the local contractors to use and any other issues that I encounter. One of the most disappointing experiences I have had with a service provider. The house was on the market for over 1 year. The agent (Jeff Stelzl http://www.berkshirehathawayhs.com/jeff-stelzl-real-estate-agent) did not communicate promptly, withheld information, in my opinion did not keep my best financial interest in mind, and as such escrow took over 3 months. The final part of escrow was a comedy of errors with wrong documentation, misplaced files, and as usual, no proactive communication from the realtor. The realtor was dismissive of concerns and imo did not represent the interest of the seller. Having the agent represent both parties is a mistake I will never make again. As a final act of incompetence, the escrow company wired the wrong amount at closing. I would not recommend the company, the office, First American Title, or Jeff Stelzl. Don't use this office or that agent if you want to sell your property in a timely manner. read more

My realtor was Beatriz Espinosa and she was amazing. She was patient and extremely helpful with every step of the process. She is so knowledgeable and experienced with many situations that a new home owner would be concerned with. She made me so confident in the new homeowners process being that I was a brand new homeowner and I had no knowledge of how everything worked. She was so unbelievable patient and she did her very best with trying to schedule to look at houses pretty much all over the northern part of the Central Coast. It took about 2 years but I was finally able to find a home that I loved and that I could easily afford. She was right there every step of the way throughout the whole process. She was so sweet and she is the absolute only reason why the experience of purchasing my first home with my VA benefits was such a huge success. I absolutely loved working with her and I would most definitely refer her and her outstanding company to all my of my work colleagues and my family and friends. I was totally surprised when she gave me the new homeowners gift basket too. It was such a thoughtful and sweet gesture, I totally was not expecting it at all. My husband and I just bought our first home. Escrow had to be extended about a week or so but we wanted to get into the vacant house early and pay rent. We were told by Chris Bausch of Hallmark Realty that we could rent if we (a) put our down payment into escrow, (b) signed a piece of paper that said if we pulled out of escrow we would lose 3% of the purchase price, and (c) got the place insured. We did everything he asked in good faith that he would hold up his end of the deal and got renters insurance but it wasn't good enough. He talked to our insurance agent directly so that the policy was worded the way he wanted but then at the last minute he decided that he wanted homeowners insurance. We called several insurance companies an were told that because we didn't own the home yet what he was asking for was illegal and they wouldn't do it. I believe that Chris Bausch should have known that what he was asking for was not possible. He backed us into a corner because if we backed out of the sale due to his unethical request we would lose 3% of the purchase price because of the paper he demanded we sign. I think what this man did was unprofessional, dishonest and just this side of legal. I would not recommend him to anyone and would strongly suggest that you think twice before you buy from anyone represented by this man or put your home in the hands of such an unscrupulous real estate agent. Your home and future is too important to put in his dirty dealing hands. read more

My initial agent with Berkshire Hathaway was not getting any showings and very little interest was being shown in the house and the listing languished. After speaking with the broker directly, I was assigned a new agent, Jeff Stelzl, who felt the house was inappropriately priced. He was able to refresh the listing with new photos, at a more appropriate price, and very quickly interest began to pick up and he began showing to prospective buyers. There were ultimately several offers on the house and it sold for asking price. The escrow process was difficult due to non-traditional construction of the house and securing financing. Jeff was patient, thorough, and diligent in finding a green lender to work with. Several issues arose during escrow, which I was quickly alerted to and they were ultimately resolved. It was a difficult and painful process, but I appreciated Jeff's professionalism and his knowledge of the real estate market in the SLO county area that yielded a positive outcome. read more
