I played on a Friday morning and I had 4 guys with leaf blowers and mowers following me on literally every hole. The worst part is that they didn't even stop when I was taking shots or putting. In fact, on a few occasions they would start their mowers up in my backswing to get a chuckle. Ranger didn't do anything. On top of that, the electric golf cart died on the 15th hole. Fun times. Even if all of that didn't happen, this place is still kind of a dump. Looks like it hasn't been touched since the 60s. There are rocks the size of golf balls in every bunker. Wash out areas everywhere. Really strange since there's an absurd amount of maintenance people buzzing around at all times. Honestly, just a poor course design. If you live in Boston and love golf, do yourself a favor and just go play Pinehills down in Plymouth. Both courses at Pinehills are 10x better and cost less. I wouldn't play The International again for free, never mind paying $125.

But last season a work friend who is a member convinced me to spend a Friday hacking a way at the Concord Country Club. I have to admit we played a great round and had a blast! The course is well maintained and challenging. Very small pro shop but has a very helpful staff and stocks what you need. While I did nothing but play golf they did have some great looking tennis courts and what looked to be a new pool. From what I could tell it looked like an old school golf only country club that has begun to add additional components. If you get invited I say give it a play. It is in a very scenic area of Concord. Oh watch out for geese poop.

He barked at my son and I to make our way to join another two-some playing. This two-some had a cart and we were walking so eventually we played on our own rather than join the other group. I was half expecting the staff to come barging at us yelling to join the group. He seemed like a jerk. The course though is very unique and pretty challenging. Lots of holes are narrow with woods on either side, water, sand and underbrush bushes and marsh. In other words, there are many ways to lose a ball if one's drive, second shot, and pitch are not accurate. The Par 3's are some of the toughest I've ever encountered. One has a dip in front of the hole with water and vast brush in front of the green. To the side is woods and a steep drop on the other side. The 9th hole is a Par 3 that has vast underbrush in front, woods on one side and a barn like building on the other...super challenging. I can see beginners being frustrated on this course but it is challenging but fun for players with a bit more experience. I enjoyed myself overall. Just wish the staff I encountered wasn't so unwelcoming (we paid, were customers...why be gruff?). If the owner/manager is reading this, talk to your staff. Friendliness goes a long way. Still a beautiful course.

If you're considering an event here, book it now and you won't be disappointed. First off, the property is stunning. The house has beautiful rooms to get ready in with great light; the facade of the house makes for beautiful photos; the barn is iconic and warm; the gardens were stunning in full bloom; there are fences and paths through the woods galore. We had our ceremony at the top of a hill overlooking a scenic New England field and pond. The reception was in a beautiful field under a big tree for shade. And for those worried about unsteady grandparents, there were easy ways to help them get around. Everything was beautiful, a real classic New England farm. Then, the decorations! Every small detail was perfect. All of the flowers were fresh from Wendy's garden and the arrangements were PERFECT. The signage and table settings were gorgeous and involved freshly stripped bark with calligraphied names of all of our guests. There were blankets on the back of all of the chairs for when it got chillier at night! Seriously, Wendy thought of everything. And last, but certainly not least, Wendy! You couldn't ask for a better planner, friend, and kind soul. She has been a wedding planner for decades and now she and her husband run the Phineas Wright House. I didn't stress once on the day of the wedding because I knew Wendy had it all under control. From the moment my husband and I started planning the wedding, she was alongside us supporting and cheering us on. I would often say "I'm so grateful for Wendy!" We had started our wedding planning with Wendy when we were going to have a 100 person wedding elsewhere, and by the end we had a 12 person, socially distanced wedding at her home, and honestly it was absolutely perfect. I still dream of the Phineas Wright House and our magical wedding day. I wish you the same joy!
