I had my September 30th wedding at Butternut and it was flawless. Thalita and Hope were amazing to work with. We did the "one click" package and it made wedding planning stress free. We used all of their inclusive vendors and people were raving about them. The servers were also LOVELY and everyone complemented them too. All year, people were telling me how "chill" of a bride I was. That was all because of butternut. Thank you!!!

The risk-reward par 4 eighth. A drivable green behind some water.

A very narrow, very compact 18 hole golf course. The fairways are very tight, but the trees that separate the fairways are cleared out enough so that you can usually find your stray golf ball. The total yardage is very low (a par 70 course), so if you're accurate you can score very well. There are a handful of par 4 greens that are very drivable. The greens were in good condition, the fairways were torn up in some spots but ultimately very playable. For the price, there were some minor annoyances. Yardage markers were infrequent and hard to find (we thought the 150 markers were OB sticks for the first few holes). There is no free drinking water on the course. The ranger had crazy eyes and his hyper rigidity to getting groups out (on a fairly quiet day) led to groups bottle necking on the par 3 second hole. They only take Visa/Mastercard. I enjoyed this course, with two very memorable holes (the 8th and the 10th) and a bunch of others that all blended together in my memory. There are a lot of "fores" and pine sounds with the narrow fairways, and the price is a little high. I'd play it again.

Fun old style course. A little tight in some spots. Well worth the trip for us from Maine.

First , they charge your card ahead of time and when you get to the course, they tell you it's $40 for the cart. RIDICULOUS !!!!

He barked at my son and I to make our way to join another two-some playing. This two-some had a cart and we were walking so eventually we played on our own rather than join the other group. I was half expecting the staff to come barging at us yelling to join the group. He seemed like a jerk. The course though is very unique and pretty challenging. Lots of holes are narrow with woods on either side, water, sand and underbrush bushes and marsh. In other words, there are many ways to lose a ball if one's drive, second shot, and pitch are not accurate. The Par 3's are some of the toughest I've ever encountered. One has a dip in front of the hole with water and vast brush in front of the green. To the side is woods and a steep drop on the other side. The 9th hole is a Par 3 that has vast underbrush in front, woods on one side and a barn like building on the other...super challenging. I can see beginners being frustrated on this course but it is challenging but fun for players with a bit more experience. I enjoyed myself overall. Just wish the staff I encountered wasn't so unwelcoming (we paid, were customers...why be gruff?). If the owner/manager is reading this, talk to your staff. Friendliness goes a long way. Still a beautiful course.

Stay the fuck away…read more I booked (and paid for) a three-night stay and ended up checking out a day early. Throughout my stay, there were multiple bugs in the room, including insects crawling on the walls and small flying bugs (gnats? I'm not sure). The overall condition of the room made it difficult to relax or sleep comfortably. There was even a bug crawling above my bed at one point. The hotel itself is VERY dated and in need of maintenance. The air conditioner was very loud and struggled to keep the room cool. They also don't do daily housekeeping, which isn't a MAJOR thing but when your hotel looks like it came out of a scary movie -- it might be helpful. Did not get much sleep during my stay. Most disappointing was the response from the front desk when I checked out early. I explained that I was leaving because of the bug issues and asked whether a refund for the unused final night would be possible. I knew this was a long shot, but was at least expecting a friendly interaction. I was told that I should have reported the issue earlier so they could have moved me to another room (which objectively is very fair). I was then handed a manager's business card (also very fair) but then dismissed. Tone of the interaction was not friendly at all. There was little empathy and no apparent interest in understanding my concerns. I felt like a commoner being dismissed by a noble or something. Once again, did not expect to be fully or even partially refunded for my room, but also did not expect this dismissiveness and frankly defensiveness. I understand that problems can happen at any hotel, BUT matters is how those problems are handled. Between the room condition, the bugs, the poor sleep, and the unfriendly response when I raised my concerns, I cannot recommend this property. Stay away!!
