He'll take some pictures of your swing, show you how to align/swing better and encourage your progress. He knows how to observe, advise and communicate in ways that truly help. My game has improved markedly as a result - down from mid-90s to mid-80s and could not be happier with the results. BTW - regarding all the gripes below, don't pay any attention to them. The course has the fastest, most challenging greens of any public course in the area and most of the holes are fair for weekend golfers.

I tried golf as a teenager, and couldn't get the hand-eye coordination down. Don't kid yourselves, I still can't. I was designed to sit in front of an Excel spreadsheet, not stand in front of a golf tee. Stone Meadow Golf has completely turned everything on its head. Don't get me wrong, my hand eye coordination is still as real as the Loch Ness Monster, however the lack thereof is no longer as scary. Stone Meadow has a driving range and a 9-hole course. Both are priced very reasonably, and (at least for the 9-hole), equipment like a wedge, putter, and two balls. The course was very approachable and non-intimidating for a newbie like myself. The staff were also helpful and friendly. So, while I don't see myself becoming a person who holds for fun on his own, including owning one's own clubs, when my friends have an open invite for Stone Meadow, I will absolutely join them if I'm in town).

Its buried in the woods in my home town of South Hadley, MA. The course is private, so you'll need to know a member to get on. Its fairly expensive even if you do. If you end up playing here, though, you'll be treated to one of the best 18 holes you can play in Massachusetts. This course is very well maintained, and very challenging. There are almost no holes that you can survive with an innacurate tee shot. The course itself is very long, and has difficult shots around its very protected greens. The course was designed by Donald Ross, and you can see some of his trademark elements still in the design. If you' have enough money to become a member here, I would seriously consider it.
