At a later date, when our insurer only offered 74% of the insured value of our home, these documents proved to be essential because they stood as incontrovertible proof of the false nature of our insurance company's claims. The inventory expert created an excel spreadsheet describing in great detail the contents of our home -- over 1200 individual items. It was complemented by photos and other proof of value. This list was critical as our insurer paid for the depreciated value of each item and only reimbursed the replacement value upon proof of purchase for each item. It took us over 3 1/2 years to succeed and to finally be paid to rebuild our home. During a cold snap three years ago, our family experienced a chimney fire that spread to the back of our home. Last year the sprinkler pipe burst on the third floor of our house and in half an hour the whole house turned into an ocean.
