Possibly the BEST restaurant I've ever had the privilege of dining in (including all the highly rated spots I've eaten at over the globe). To be here, I felt as though it was more as an honored guest, than as a simple customer - if I had a posh friend who invited me for dinner, whose (equally posh) parents lived in the Welsh countryside in a historic farm house and knew how to cook and entertain EXTREMELY well, this is it. And yet, for such an incredibly well-designed operation, is surprisingly and overtly unpretentious. STAFF - Everyone, including Chef Hugh was surprisingly humble, informative and an extreme pleasure to chat with. AMBIANCE Traditional farmhouse exterior with extensive lands; contemporary interior, an aesthetic one might find in a higher end flat in central London - all with captivating artwork and well-placed area lightning to match. Within minutes of arrival, you're invited into the parlor (poshly adorned but tasteful living/waiting area) for whatever libation your heart desires. Including the most amazing hors 'oeuvres your tongue has ever had the brief opportunity of supporting. After the roughly 20-30 minute downtime/relaxation period, you're invited into an immense, but cooly intimate dining area. View through French doors reveal the fountain, gardens, lands and 300+ year old tree lined driveway. In addition to this, on warmer nights, one can imbibe cocktails under the roof covered patio which surrounds the main house. FOOD Everything is sourced locally, has its own herb farm, and though I don't know for sure, many if not most of the vegetables are likely grown within 50 yards of the kitchen (I snuck a peak at their immense greenhouse and gardens). The continued nouvelle Welsh strategy and cultural insights make perfect sense; prepared with the upmost intellect and sensorial creativity; albeit not pushy, arrogant nor taking away from the soul and core of its Welsh roots. Honestly, if you want to be treated like a diplomat at a head of state dinner party, this is the only place I've been to that possesses such an overwhelming intimate and professionally executed dining experience. I really can't say enough good things about Plas Bodegroes. It really makes me want to delete a star off all the 5 stars places I've rated to date. I found it that memorable.

We stayed in the Élan Suite as we had our 2 pooches with us which worked perfectly, no stairs to navigate and the car parked right outside the door. The service was good and staff attentive, the food served in the Nightingale Restaurant utterly exquisite - 3 courses £39 including a good variety for all tastebuds and preferences. We all 4 had different and all divine including Wagyu Beef Burger, which was the best I'd ever tasted. The vegetarian meal packed full of flavour and not the token end of the menu addition. Some small tweaks if this place wants to be a 5 star pad it easily has the potential to be, whilst the staff are friendly they didn't quite have some of the basics e.g. Wine recommendations to accompany the well constructed dinner menu, laminated wine list isn't really necessary; whilst the suite was fabulous the curtains were a little tatty with rips on the edges through wear and tear (I said they were small tweaks!!). This place has serious potential, it would be a shame not to fulfil it. They have shed loads of different offers at various price points we paid £180 for one night no other charges for the pooches who loved the grounds and the bar. Would quite happily recommend it and we will be back!

A nice assortment of homemade fried and baked goods in a tiny unassuming storefront, with patient and friendly service. Some people around Wales (drivers in particular) have not been very kind to my unfamiliar heiny. The Chip Box was happy to see me. In no particular order: * Cod fish is your standard fare. A nice size for the price, heavily fried as one would expect. A bit oily but it fits the local flavour. * Chips are excellent. I love the thicker ones, so I'm still noshing even as they've cooled down. Thicker helps keep the oil at bay as well. * Pickled egg was a fun side jaunt. * The rissole was delicious. Definitely get that. * The pie was amazingly outstanding. Definitely get that. They say there's no one favorite but locals love the pies, and I agree with locals on this. * Curry sauce was nice - not my thing, but I asked for local flavour and this was part of the bill. All in all, not one for the American palate. Not one for the foodie palate. 125% one for the local Welsh palate, and all the stars go to you, wondrous establishment!

Bwyty Mawddach is (I think) a beautifully converted barn, full of oak and slate and that breathtaking vista. It's run by Ifan and Amelie, with much of the lamb served in the restaurant farmed on the surrounding land by Ifan's brother. Downstairs is a lounge area, with the main seating area upstairs. I've always been in a big group every time I've been here and can attest that it's a great venue for friends and families. The food is largely local and seasonal. It's reasonably priced and there's a good selection. I've never had any complaints about the service.

Also at some angles the C can't be seen giving the more unusual name of 'arousal cafe' which would be better placed, I'd guess, in Amsterdam than Abermawe. However, it is a standard, large chip-shop cafe. Off-season large and empty, in season a great place for a fish-supper, a cup of tea and some respite from the rain and kids. The food is fair, a standard chip-shop menu prepared well enough.The staff are fine but the toilets are on the small size for the size of the hall.
