When you doom scroll, you come across many different places that are true hidden gems. Door To Nowhere, or Heigold House, is definitely an oddity and salute to the past. Some housekeeping, you know, things to know about this place. BE CAREFUL. This sits on a roundabout island with steady traffic. Be mindful to the traffic flow and businesses nearby (I parked at a nearby business off the road and walked over here). Be kind to the natural beauty that surrounds this. And most of all, be respectful. As I said, this sits on a roundabout with flowerbeds surrounding it. Whether you are facing front, as in looking at the front of the façade, or looking from the rear, please stay on the sidewalks provided. Take in the informational plaques as well. Built by Christian H Heigold, a successful stonecutter. Majority of the house was completed in 1853. Heigold was a master at stonecutting and completed the home with busts of Presidents George Washington and James Buchanan. Heigold was also a staunch opponent of the 'Know Nothing Party,' and anti-immigration political party and I would like to think that he built his house with all the busts was a big middle finger to those that were anti-immigration. This façade sat in what was known as the The Point neighborhood, which was favored by those that moved to the city from the New Orleans area. Once Louisville diverted the Beargrass Creek away from downtown, this place started to flood annually. Shifting people away from the neighborhood and then the Great Flood of 1937 happened. Slowly the city started buying houses and demolishing them. Ultimately using the land as a dump site. Then this façade was listed on the National Registry of Historical Places. Remained in that area which became Thruston Park. That is until a developer bought the land adjacent to this and build condos. They moved this massive beast, 70,000-pounds, across River Road to where it sits today.

Whitehall might be easy to miss unless you're seeking a special locale for an event or wedding. The…read morelovely, historic house and its gardens are tucked back of Lexington Rd among the seminaries and residential neighborhoods. We sat out to explore its annual, peony celebration between thunder showers yesterday. We didn't visit the impressive house on this trip (they offer paid, guided tours). The gardens are free for visitors to wander and there are several places to sit and enjoy the natural beauty inside this well-manicured, but petite garden. We didn't stay for the guided, garden tour or plant sale, but I've been told that both are very popular. Besides two, avid gardeners and a photographer, we had the peonies to ourselves. Although our visit was short, we loved exploring the gorgeous peonies at Whitehall. Looking forward to a tour next time!

Very cool and unique public art/donation monument in the highlands located on the bardstown road…read moreportion of St James Catholic Church. Not gonna lie the first few times I walked by this cool sculpture I legit thought it was a real homeless man sleeping. It wasn't until I seen the donation box once and happened to read about it. This is in a very popular portion of Louisville with lots of nearby quirky shops and eateries within walking distance. Over the next few weeks I plan on checking out many of Louisville's public art and I started in the highlands. Within very close walking distance of this you have the "spirit of highlands" and "Kentucky rushmore" wall pant murals that's worth checking out. Also only a 2 min drive from Louisville native "Hunter S Thompson" wall mural. Overall I love this piece of art. Cool, unique and has a great cause. Worth checking out.

This is a historic marker and on the National Register of Kentucky. Construction began in 1877, they lived on site to build and finish this project. In December of 1879, Louisville began using the reservoir. After the first five years many individuals came by buggy to walk around the grounds. The gate house and house were aesthetically eye appealing. Louisville water planted trees, placed a walking path, and horse hitches for guests to stay and enjoy the surrounding countryside. Louisville water still continue to maintain the water basin today. Mules are used to clean the mud from the Ohio River. As of even now; we are still seeing the beauty of the original dream of a single engineers dream of glory here in Louisville Kentucky. All these years later we still walk and gather around the grounds of this elegant building and surrounding area.

Middletown frost gas station is a very small and historic marker spot just off of old Main Street…read morein the Middletown portion of Lousiville Kentucky. Middletown and Shelbyville road is a hot spot for entertainment and places to eat. Always full of traffic and action. However if you go back one street to Main Street it's more of a Historic old town vibe and while driving Main Street you will find this little gem. The gas station is a one pump station that's the size of medium sized luxury bathroom. Very cool and fun find.

We attended the annual Wreaths Across America ceremony for the 3rd year in a row in December and…read morereally are in awe of this property. We were pleased that all of the 11,300 graves were able to be sponsored and honored again this year. The snowfall from 2 days prior had melted somewhat and there was fairly easy accessibility via pathways to various sections. The roadways are well maintained and large trees line the road and are scattered throughout the cemetery. The rock wall surrounding the perimeter is lovely, as well as the large covered parade stand and stage in a central location for presentations. We plan to return annually for this program as well as for the cleanup always held in January.

As a former history major, Zachary Taylor has always been an interesting president to learn about and I wrote a lot of papers about him in college. The cemetery was covered in a light blanket of snow and was well kept and cleaned. The graves of fallen soldiers were well persevered and cleaned. I enjoyed looking at Zachary Taylor's mausoleum and the statue next to it. We also got to look at his former resting place, which is just a few feet from his permanent resting place.

Follow the Green Path [Louisville KY]…read more Muhammad Ali was laid to rest in the peaceful grounds of Cave Hill Cemetery. Shortly after our visit to the Muhammad Ali Center on Museum Row we drove to Cave Hill Cemetery to pay respects to the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time. We inquired with security at the gate where we would find it. He asked was that all we wanted to see? Confused by what he meant I asked if there were other famous people buried here... then he smiled and gave me a map with a list of points of interests. A green line marked the road from the Main Administration Office to Ali's lot which is in Section U. We followed the green line as instructed by the security guard. We found "The Greatest." There it was polished granite tombstone and memorial, nothing fancy and words inscribed of how he'd like to be remembered: "He took a few cups of love. He took one tablespoon of patience, one teaspoon of generosity, one pint of kindness. He took one quart of laughter, one pinch of concern, and then he mixed willingness with happiness. He added lots of faith, and he stirred it up well. Then he spread it over a span of a lifetime, and he served to each and every person he met." The boxing legend and humanitarian was buried on his side, facing East per his Muslim faith. There is a monument nearby. There are also two granite benches for visitors to sit and reflect. We also noticed a box up on a tree with a pair of boxing gloves drawn outside, underneath says "Ali's Bees." This reminded me of his agility and power in boxing, reflecting his unique fighting style... Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee." I was there when Muhammad Ali fought Joe Frazier III in Quezon City, Philippines in 1975... the "Thrilla in Manila" where Ali won the fight by technical knockout. I was 10 and I remember it was wild! Muhammad Ali passed away in 2016 at age 74 after suffering from Parkinson's Disease. His life and legacy continue to inspire people around the world today. Review #3906

The grave of Muhammad Ali is quite possible the most notable grave in this cemetery. It is a…read morebeautifully landscaped grave that welcomes anyone that wishes to visit and pay their respects. There are steps that will lead you to the grave, and please be mindful to stay on the steps and not walk in the landscaped area surrounding them. Also be respectful of the time you take here in case there is anyone else that wants to view. The site contains a slab that is engraved, two areas that look like they are for seating, and I'm sure is graved with many flowers throughout the year. A fitting resting place for the greatest.
