Adorable!! I stopped by thinking I'd perhaps I'd shop local for some fresh broccoli then got so distracted with all the cute stuff, I nearly forgot about the broccoli lol. So much more than just produce in here! Local finds of all sorts! Absolutely love all the Louisiana goodies. I drove into Ponchatoula today thinking I should find a strawberry king cake, then voila! One was waiting for me when I walked in here, and even better, they make the king cakes in house! Can't wait to taste and share tonight. I also grabbed some of the semi-sweet strawberry wine made locally and a random bag of doggy toothbrush treats. TBD how all these are, but the prices were great so why not support local? One of my favorite things to do when I'm sightseeing. Customer service was good. Two ladies at the cash register consistent with customers. Answered my questions just fine; one shared her opinion that both sweet strawberry and semi-sweet strawberry wine are "too sweet", so tbd for me tonight. Strawberry festival in Ponchatoula every April, so I'll plan to be back for that and shop here again!

Love this place! Prices are great... I usually walk out with several bags full of produce, fruit, and prepared food for less than $20

Stopped in for a bottle of water and found so many Strawberry choices. What a fun stop no matter where you are going!

Off he beaten path we found the GEM of a place. We stopped for a soda and walked out with knowledge of a rich history of the town and a lot of "berry" products. Who knew Strawberry salsa could be so good!! From the bread, the people, to the berry's, you can't go wrong stopping at Berry Town!

Great selection of fruits, vegetables and prepared food. They also have delicious takeout. Their boil shrimp is wonderful!

This location was historically an open-air market, but was completely renovated with overhead doors that can be closed in inclement weather. They have more space, and more pleasant shopping conditions (especially during summer). Southside Produce isn't a farmers market, but they do sell local produce whenever available. When I was in today, they were showcasing local cauliflower, but also had some beautiful fresh Brussel Sprouts from a farm in California. Their fresh produce is always fresh and high quality regardless of its source. Another amazing area they have is the extensive frozen produce aisle. These include virtually every type of frozen vegetable and fruit. I also noted a selection of local meat products in the coolers, these included quite the selection of sausages! In the preserved products, Southside also has you covered. They have their own brand of pickled, jellied, and preserved foods of all sorts. They also sell other name brands. They have syrups and oils, and other similar products. This is an area that's expanded over the years, and is now quite extensive. Then there are the other products that one can find there. These include things like a significant selection of dried beans and rice, local bread products from a number of bakeries, and cypress furniture. In the right season, you can buy fruit trees to plant in your yard or garden. In all seasons, I recommend Southside as a great place to buy healthy and interesting houseplants. I am always amazed by their selection. Service is always great as well. Normally, one need only take their selections to the counter in the center to be rung up. Their registers accept all modern forms of payment including tap to pay (min $4 on credit cards though). If you need any other help, they will be glad to provide it. Everyone seems cheerful and pleasant. I've been going to Southside Produce for decades now. I felt it was overdue to write a review. It's one of those great Baton Rouge places that you need to visit on a regular basis. I stop by often when I'm in the area.

I'm really VERY sad to have learned that Becnel Farm will be closing their Plaquemines Parish…read moreroadside farm produce stands and also end their farming. This farm has been operating in their current location since 1850. There simply isn't anything that will be able to replace the experience you could have here not to mention nowhere else seems to have boiled peanuts anywhere close to as good as the ones they offered here. This location of their roadside farm produce stand is probably the nearest of the several Becnel fruit stands/markets to the actual farm as it is pretty much on the farm with all the citrus trees around it. They have some general selection of fresh produce and locally produced food items as the other locations but it is nice to see where a lot of the citrus and other produce originates from. This is a nice little road trip to take and see some of the rural areas outside of the urban spaces of Greater New Orleans. I've had the privilege of having all my lifetime 'til now being able to enjoy Becnel farms produce stands and I don't know how to even envision a future where they no longer exist. I've gone through the loss of so MANY of the wonderful and unique things the New Orleans area offered for so many generations that my heart grows heavier with each loss of the wonderous things that are now gone with the wind & tragically ain't dere no more...

They had some small satsumas (also in short supply this year). But the standouts were fall crop tomatoes and a gorgeous large cauliflower. The tomatoes were perfect for Thanksgiving day and I made a caprese salad for the table. And I roasted the cauliflower with olive oil, salt, pepper and parmesan... then dressed with a little lemon juice and parsley. DELICiOUS! I did not find my kumquats and the prices were higher than I expected but the quality was excellent so I'm not complaining. Small stand just before the Belle Chasse Bridge in a shell lot!

Hong Kong Market -- 5…read more Located inside my favorite place on earth... and no, Disney World cannot compete. This is THE best international market in the Greater New Orleans area. Tucked inside is their bánh mì spot--the Vietnamese po-boy--and baby... it's a staple. Open daily, and you'll usually catch the same sweet older woman back there faithfully whipping out sandwiches like clockwork. It's something about that consistency and care that just hits different. They're under new management now and the space got a little upgrade, so I'm not sure if everything is exactly the same menu-wise, but my go-to has always been the one with meatballs--and I ALWAYS add extra pâté. That pâté? Don't skip it. The bread is exactly what it needs to be. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside... not too hard, not too soft. Perfect balance. Prices went up just a little, but honestly? For about $7, you're getting a full, loaded sandwich that eats like a meal and then some. Still one of my favorite quick eats. Every time I'm in there, I'm grabbing one.

This is a vegan paradise, as they have my beloved tofu skin (yuba), soy curls, all the tofu varieties you could ever want and a variety of fake meats, wheat gluten goodies and even vegan jerky. Prices are impressively low. It's been over 10 years since my last review and the market has grown so much. We spent an hour in here today and noticed they have a good sake collection, as well as Asian beers. Boba/tapioca pearls, teas, coffees, spices, desserts... an entire aisle devoted to soup bases, noodles, dried mushrooms! Pinch me, because I think I'm dreaming. I'm in hot chile heaven. There was one thing that my husband wanted that we couldn't find. One of the sweetest ladies at the cash register tried her best to help, even with a slight language barrier we were able to show her the product (dried bonito flakes). She showed him dried squid but that wasn't quite the same thing. I think they have less Japanese products, not really a big deal at all. We so appreciated her kind efforts. Bonus: the cute statue collection by the entrance! Buddhas, lucky cats... even Hello Kitty herself is represented. Consider this market for unique gifts. They even sell Cafe du Monde coffee!
