This place was in the middle of a residential neighborhood but not your typical hit and run package store. Exceptional craft beer selections and top shelf liquors and mixers. If I find myself trapped and lost in Milwaukee, and I need a quick fix while walking towards Lake Michigan, this will definitely be a top priority stop. Highly recommend. Make sure to ask for Bert. Bert's is my go to liquor store because it is a few blocks away and Richie and family are always so nice. I also send family and friends there on their way out of town so they can pick up good beer and spotted cow to mule across state lines. Great selection of beer for a small store. Although, I wish they had a wider variety of Sauvignon blanc wines but the stock is heavy on the reds. read more

Bert's is located very close to Lake Michigan in a very nice little area of a few small businesses including Stag barbershop, Tasha Rae jewelry, Little Cancun Mexican Restaurant, and SmallPie. I live within a couple miles, and it's my favorite locally-owned liquor store. The place is absolutely packed with so many different varieties of beer, from seasonal microbrews to classic go-tos. I've picked up packs of beer from local breweries like Enlightened, Lakefront, City Lights, Mob Craft, and Eagle Park here along with a few wines which they have a substantial selection of as well. I once called ahead to ask about what types of gin they have, and the answer I got was a groan and then "A lot...anything you like: Hendrick's, Tanqueray, Bombay..." and then they hung up. I was a little confused at first, but I ended up stopping in later and there were, indeed, a LOT of gins. Even a special edition barrel reserve gin from Great Lakes Distillery! Additionally, every time I've visited, I've seen slices of sweet breads and cakes for sale from East Side Ovens as well as a selection of frozen pizzas and ice creams and bags of chips. I'm looking forward to buying some more locally-made liquor here in the future. read more

I have been a customer here for over 16 years. I like to cook with wine and liquor so I am able to run in and get suggestions of what to use. I am always sending my customers here that stop in my Walgreens looking for liquor. They have a great selection of microbrews and local beers. The place is small but they try to carry a good variety of wines. It is run by two brothers. The one I have been calling Bert all these years is actually the brother. Bert has a new restaurant by the lake by the same name. We like to stop by on Trick or Treat night and grab a beer to walk around with while our kids trick or treat. Prices are pretty competitive too! read more

Bert's. I can walk there, pick up a 12 pack of beer and walk home. A three star right off the top. A very good selection of craft beers and local brews, and I can sometimes get a sixer of Fuller's London Pride. There seems to be a large wine selection, but I wouldn't know if it's quality stuff. Like any reputible Milwaukee liquor store they also carry a couple brands of 40's. A bit pricey and the owner could sharpen up his people skills but other than that it fills it's role as a neighborhood liquor store. But I have often wondered: Who is that little guy that's always there? Does he work there? Is he following me around for some reason? What is his job? Is he mute? read more

Horrible customer service. They apparently do not know how to run their register. I asked for a receipt for my purchase because I get refunded money for my liquor purchases. They couldn't give me one. Their prices are higher than other stores in the neighborhood...and it cost me an extra $7 because I couldn't get a receipt for my purchase. They were very frustrated with me. I will never return and will warn others. read more

Great place, great selection. The old nice guy that runs the place name is Richie. I've been going there a long time now, and I still don't know why it's called Bert's. Richie runs it. I think that Bert's is an excellent local beer and wine store. It's a relatively small store, but it has a very good selection of local and national beers for its size. It has a moderate amount of wine. I don't find the store any more expensive than any other store. If you live in Bay View, it's totally worth going to regularly. read more

An incident occurred about 2 years ago when I, a longstanding customer that lives nearby drove an aquaintence that lived across the hall from me at the complex I managed to Paul's store so she could purchase beer. While my aquaintence was inside, I was fixing an electrical problem under the hood of the truck. On this beautiful sun filled day, I saw my aquaintance rush into the truck, with a person along side tugging at her purse. It was Paul, the owner and apparently, She had stolen a 4 pack. With the truck still needing to be started, and the hood open, I went into the driver's side cab. I did not realize who it was that was pulling the purse. She had stolen from Paul, and he was upset. I took her to her home, then promptly called Paul and asked what happened. He then said I was complicit. I then rode my bike to his store and immediately paid for her digression, less thaan 3 dollars. To this day, Paul yells at me, forgetting that I was NOT in the store, and that I paid him back for her, even though I don't drink beer anymore. I have spent thousands of dollars with the store, even arranging Parties with hundreds of dollars worth of wines etc for the Investment Bank I worked at. Today, He yelled at me saying I distracted him allowing her to steal and protected the woman in the store, who has died since the incident. He yelled at me and misinformed other customers about the incident. I was there showing the clerk that Bert's double charged me, receipts on the counter. He certainly cannot get over it. And he is on high alert, or says I should be watched closely. He really looked like he was going to lose it! Be prepared to be followed around, every person that enters is "watched closely". I just wish he would get the facts straight, and stop berating me, a loyal customer and volunteer for local charities. We used to exchange nicities and talk about the weather, business, the sailing situation. Hopefully, he will let her soul rest in peace. She was an alcoholic. False accusations and yelling at paying customers (double billed at that) is wrong. It was wrong that she stole from him, but I paid him immediately after calling him to ask how I could help resolve the problem. Interpersonal human relations skills are not his strong suit. He vacillates between forgiveness and criticism, Money in my hands seems to enable closed lips. read more
