I loved this place since I discovered it a few months ago. But it seems they have doubled their prices since my visit last month. Many of the prices are on par or sometimes higher than my local grocery store. The last straw was when I saw a standard size Mayo for $9.99. I really wanted to like this place and had high hopes. In fact, I turned the car around as it caught my eye. This store is really big and it has a lot of options whether it be beer, wine, veggies, meats, cheeses, canned foods, etc. I was looking for cheese and found a HUGE bag of string cheese. It was $26 and packed! Unfortunately, I went to look at the date and it said 12/11/23. Even if it was packed on that date, fresh string cheese only lasts in bags like that (it wasn't vaccum sealed) for about 2 weeks. I visited the store on 1/5/24. This was definitely expired as that is 25 days after the date on the cheese. After that, I was concerned about the rest of the products on the shelves. I understand the prices are a little bit cheaper, but that is only because it is expired. I don't like taking chances with consuming expired meat or dairy, so this place is just not for me. read more

We never leave without buying something. I have shopped at both the Burlington and New Munster store. The staff at both are helpful, friendly, concerned about their customers. The prices are so unbelievably low, and I can keep my freezer stocked with an amazing variety of food. Definitely my place to go to get what my family likes. Lots of locals love this place which is how we found out about this place. In a pinch I've purchased some non perishable items from here and that's pretty much it. On a recent visit, I randomly checked a few items and they were all way past expiration. If they sell expired items like this as normal practice, I can only imagine how they handle their meat and deli items. I also cannot trust that the expired frozen items were frozen before the expiration date. I would rather head a little further to Kenosha to shop. read more

Been going to Best Bargains for years. Was a single mom and I could buy good products for my kids when I definitely was on a fixed income. The employees there are always soooo nice and helpful, they always acknowledge me when I am there. Nick is my favorite, cute smile, always helpful and very friendly! While there's a few things to stay away from here, there's also a LOT of gems in this place. Their frozen apps are really good and they have a huge selection. I got the frozen mac and cheese bites which were great in the air fryer at home. They had a lot more too when I walked through the aisles I just didn't have a ton of freezer space or cash on me. They are cash only, or they were when I went in right before the pandemic. One of my friends swears by some of their seafood, their lobster tails in particular. It looked like they had other good meat, too. Also if you need to stock up your kitchen they have plenty of pots, pans, and a huge section of spices. If anything that looks like it should have an expiration date - check it first before buying. Some of the stuff is close to expiring or it just expired, or with a few of the frozen things I saw it's way past expired. It's fine if it was frozen before it went bad but I wasn't sure so I skipped it. Also the candy at the register - check the expiration date there too. read more

Every time I walk in there I feel like Family. Everyone is always so nice and friendly.(NOT LIKE SOME OF THE CHAIN STORES). I want a few cases of Different thing that they had on sale. They had to run in the back to get them for me. But within two minutes they were bringing them out. They had everything I wanted.And they always have GREAT Prices. But this Stroy is Really about one Person. His Name is Mike. And he works in the Deli. (( BIG HIGH FIVE TO MIKE )). I am pretty sure Mike has not been with Best Bargains, Inc. to long. But his is a GREAT Asset to the Deli. I was look at the Cheeses. And wanted to get a Certain kind Sliced. But Mike took me that it falls apart if they try to slice it. I was very happy he took me that. So I went with another kind. As I was standing there he came over with some other kind of Cheese for me to sample. Then he ask If I needed anything else. I said yes I got some GEART Lunch meats. After he got that for me, he asked if I would like some kind of salad to go with what I had. (( GREAT UPSELL )). Have visited many times as I live in the area. I have found many good deals here. Some products are going out of date and need to be used quickly. Their fresh meat department offers sales on steaks and chops better than the local groceries here. We have gotten great deals on frozen salmon also. I am amazed at the different products they receive in and you need to check them out frequently. They also offer warehouse and flash sales If you buy in quantity. read more

Went there today to check out the store, prices were reasonable on some stuff, i wanted to buy something waited in line for a few min, when it was my turn she rang up my stuff and when i took out my debit card she said they do not accept debit Only cash or check and there is a atm she told me. Some restaurant foods but it's all cheap food you would get at a dirty dive bar. Meat looks good. Have yet to purchase meat. Great place to buy in bulk or restaurant supplies. I purchased restaurant quality cookie sheets/jelly roll pans for only $5-$6. Also you can purchase spices, canned fruit & veggies, pasta, cheese, flour, sugar, eggs...all in bulk. Perfect to buy and split with a few other people. There is a small deli and frozen foods too. Also paper goods and basic white plates, cups, glasses, utensils... Heard the frozen pies are good and very inexpensive. Store is nothing fancy but the employees always seemed nice. I believe they can special order items for you. Don't go on a rainy day, parking lot is a mud hole. I don't believe they take credit cards, just cash and checks. read more

I bought 2 spoiled packages of hamberger there. Outside was a nice red,inside was brown and foul smelling. I didn't chance it and threw it away. Your employee insisted that the lids she got me down would fit my cups. She was sure. They do not.. Apparently,there are rules about selling expired foods, I remembered seeing a sign... This place is a hidden gem of a grocery store/restaurant supply store. They only take cash, but there's an ATM at the entrance. Watch the expiration dates--gotten stung a few times with that, but the prices are so low that those few occasions weren't too maddening. Some of our favorites: chicken wing dings, lunchmeat, ribs, produce seems locally grown but it sells out fast, hash browns, lunchmeat, cooking utensils and trays, butter, and cheese curds. This is the place to go for large bulk quantities of year old expired meats. On one occasion I purchased a box of pork chops and upon arriving home I just happened to check the expiration date and noticed the chops were expired by over a year..!! Not only do they now accept debit cards, but they take Foodshare too. They have an excellent Deli Department with inexpensive meat cuts like Hard Salami, Smoked Turkey, Ham, & Roast Beef all for only $1.00 a pound...what a deal!!! They carry it all from paper towels to T-Bone steaks, from Toilet Paper To Tenderloins Beef or Pork. Great prices, Great customer service, Great hours and Fabulous location. Best meats around! A whole lot better than Jewel or Meijers. Carl E. is incorrect, they DO NOT sell expired meats. That is bogus. The meats are fresh. The meat prices are very reasonable. The frozen cookie dough is makes great cookies without the bother of mixing ingredients, especially the oatmeal raisin cookies. Their Indiana Bacon is great! read more

Wow, we have our new "place" to shop at. We have heard about this place over the past year or so, but being from Illinois it wasn't something we would drive out to. Then I moved to Lake Geneva... and one day I realized we pass this place almost every sunday while visiting a friend in that area. . We decided to check it out today when we decided we wanted to grill outside, and needed some food. It was like shopping at a price club place (costco, sams) but on a smaller, more friendly level. All the staff was super friendly. It was nice to see items in both bulk and regular sizes.Great prices on meat and spices, got some great frozen food. I loved that they had coupons for some items and they stuck them right by the product for us to take. We got far more then we intended, but no regrets. We plan on going back often to stock up. The only thing I am not fond of is the cash or check only, although a ATM is available. But I assume that's what helps keeps the prices lower... not having the credit card fees. So it's a small inconvenience for big savings. read more

Sells meats without expiration dates. Claims they freeze them right before expiration, according to small sign by the door that I was directed to. So how do they know the meat is safe if their is no date on it? Felt the cashier obliged me to stay and wait while they looked in the back for turkeys with expiration dates. Declined all the ham. no expiration dates. Think they should be more honest of their web site. USDA says there are no regulations requiring companies to but expiration dates on their meat. BUYER BEWARE CAVAET EMPTOR! 12/15/15 Had a problem with Best Bargains, see earlier post of 11/27. Talked to the owner, he offered me a full refund in product so I took him up on it. He had someone take care of me personally. I offered my receipt and they accepted it. Found a few things with past expiration dates, just passed them by. Found a great many more with dates not expired. They refunded my money in cash when I checked out and I had to visit the ATM to get more because I had bought above and beyond the full refund amount. Same cashier as before, very different attitude, friendly this time. I will be going back. Everyday items are great prices, but when I saw that I could get a much better grade of meat than I am used to and be within reason, I was sold. I look forward to checking them out more. We drive up just to get some specials. Great prices and even better selection of restaurant food utensils. The only problem is there way to send out their ad's. Using just facebook and keeping the pixilation small leaves a lot to be desired in trying to print or even read the ad. Keep trying but the food prices are very good. read more
