Welcome to my strategy for big box store survival - a.k.a. my Best Buy review: 1) Know what you're going for. And I don't just mean, 'an iPod,' or 'a new laptop.' I mean, research, compare, ask around, and land on the specific make and model you want. The less you need to rely on the sparse sales team (and I do mean SALES team), the more you will come out a winner. 2) Stick to the plan. Don't get upsold, don't get off-sold (a new term I made up for getting sold to something other than what you planned on), and frankly, don't get lost in there. The more time you spend outside of your original focus, the more likely you are to come home with something you didn't want or need. 3) Have friends with a truck waiting and ready. Home delivery is always such a gong show that you're much better off getting it done yourself. And by yourself, I clearly mean by your friends with big muscles and ample vehicular storage. 4) Ignore your impulses. Sure, you just bought a fancy new tab and there are all kinds of gadgets and add-ons and fanciness that's catching your eye on the way to the cash. ABORT. DISENGAGE. RETURN TO THE HOMELAND. Odds are, you are going to misread the package and realize only hours later that while the 'whatever cord' is for the make and model you bought, it only works with the previous generation. read more

I purchased a dryer three years ago and it isn't working. Basically because I don't have a warrantee, there is nothing they will do to help you. Absolutely useless to buy anything there. It will only last a few years and end up in the landfill site. Such a shame. read more

Any business that does not allow incomming phone calls has serious problems...perhaps maybe during Christmas Rush or whatever but the toll free customer service line is absolutely useless for a generalized question about something in store that the website is absolutely not clear on....i wish my place of work could stop taking incomming calls like this place does....best buy you suck!! This Best Buy location is okay, most of the time they have what I'm looking for and there prices similar to other people around. I bought an Asus monitor at this Best Buy for about $150 a few years ago and still use it as of October 2021. read more

I recently bought a Washer / dryer set combo. The store sold me a set for $2600 taxes in with delivery installation and accessories (washer hose etc.) Items were delivered on Oct 6 but the team delivering it did not install them and said I had to call a plumber to fix the faucet. Got a plumber to come in and he said there was nothing wrong with it but I still had to pay him $175 to do nothing. I tried calling best buy but nobody will return my calls. read more

There are many things to like about Best Buy but it's primarily the staff that I remember the most. They aren't pushy but are more than willing to step up and help out. In particular, if your computer has died, they're both honest and gentle in helping you mourn its passing. They have a good selection of movies and games as well. I can't speak to the price of games but movies can be had for a good deal. Definitely my big box computer store of choice. read more

Back in late August, I pre-ordered a game from Best Buy Dartmouth Crossing for my fiance's birthday. The game was Dead Island, and it was set for release on Sept 6. When we went that day after work, there were no copies to be found because the sales people had not set aside copies for the pre-orders. As this was a birthday gift, I was not too pleased. The clerk I dealt with in the customer service/returns dept assured me that they would have more on Thursday. Also, that they would take 20$ off the sale price for our troubles. Thursday came and we went to the store and AGAIN they had no copies. I was furious, and the manager I spoke with was not helpful in the least. They said that they would have some on Friday. When my fiance called Friday morning, he was told that they did not know when they would have copies. By this point, I had already put a complaint into their corporate office. The response time from corporate was not very good, I had to call a few times before someone actually called me back. In the in term, I had found the game elsewhere, and in the end Best Buy credited me for most of the purchase price...which was nice. However, that does not undue the horrible customer service that we experienced. This is not the first time we have had trouble with this store. My fiance had to get his iPod headphones replaced, and initially they gave us a cheap knock off. They may have worked for a day, we went back and had to speak to a manager who corrected the issue and gave us the right pair. Also, my fiance had to send his xbox in for service. While in for repair Best Buy lost the hard drive and it took them a week to find it. Finally, when we purchased a new digital slr camera in July; there was a promo to get a discounted SD card. We didn't buy it the same day because we needed to check the size of one we already had. We then decided to go back and take advantage of the promo. The clerk in customer service was trying to tell us that because we purchased a bundle promo, that we could not take advantage of this promo. In the flyer, the promo ad did not list any conditions or contain any symbol to direct you to conditions. Again, we had to involve a manager to get an advertised promo. We do not recommend Best Buy-Dartmouth Crossing to anyone. The staffs knowledge of general business practises, Best Buy's policies and customer service are horrible. They do not care about their customers, it would be better to avoid the hassles, the arguments with the store staff and spend your money elsewhere. read more

I was in here last night for the first time in a long time! What the hell is up with the sales people wearing ear pieces like they are the secret service. I tried to get someone to find me a TV twice, only to find out they were talking on their headset.......how unhelpful. And once i did get someones attention to get the TV i wanted (on a high shelf) They tried to sell me a different TV, bigger, different brand! Why can't electronics store sales people, just sell me what i want? They always make me feel like they know better than i do, just because they work there! Pisses me the frig off! So i decided to not buy my TV here and headed to Future Shop...much better! Best buy, I'll only be back after much internet research and if you have the best price! read more

I was shocked and appalled by the lack of service. I visited this location Dec 4 around 7 pm. My boyfriend, and his mom were shopping for a router and I wandered over to the movie-music section. My bf found an xbox game,new for 19.99 and then found the exact game, USED for 24.99! I found this amusing not to mention confusing. So I decided to ask an employee to explain. After walking around this side of the store for over 10 mins, I could not find ONE SINGLE employee! When one male employee, who was standing at the entrance finally noticed that I needed help, he came over. He was not pleasant at all. No smile, no personality. I held up the games and asked if he could explain the prices. He just looked at me and said" ummm well if you want the used one, we may be able to give you a better price". I said, I would like to understand the pricing. He just said" sometimes prices change". and walked away. Several mins later, I found a Dr Who box set that I fell in love with. however it did not have a price. I then tried to find another employee to get a price, the only one was the same employee, and he was helping another customer. Not one other employee was anywhere on that side of the store, and customer service was lined up with over 6 people in line. I carried the box set around, and when the same employee came over, I mentioned that I did not see another single employee, he then said very rudely " Well we are all busy I guess" . He scanned the item and gave me a price verbally, when I asked if he would put a sticker on it, so I had a price when I got to the cash, he said- " no I can't put a sticker on it ". So I proceeded to return the boxed set to the rack, and left the store. Talk about HORRID SERVICE ! read more

I'm pretty divided on this blue and gold monolith of an electronics store. On one hand, it has a lot of stuff. And it's all well-organized and well-displayed. The store is clean and brightly lit. It's got a good stock of great movies and games, and it's always easy to find the hottest titles in a flash. Prices are relatively competitive, although since it's owned by the same company that owns the other large electronics store, it's not like it has a lot of real competition to deal with. On the other hand, this place has given me some of the worst customer service experiences this year. On average, the staff at the counters and around the store are either cold and distant, or having too much fun horsing around with each other to be easily approachable. A pet peeve of mine is when you're dealing with an employee to discuss a problem or product, and they carry on conversations with their co-workers while dealing with you. I don't care what party you guys are attending Friday night, I just want you to tell me which phone has the best features for my needs. This is a common situation when I'm there. At least they know their stuff, so they have that going for them. Some of the staff at the mobile section of the store are useless. I've been experiencing phone issues for months. I bought it from Best Buy and was upsold the monthly "insurance" fee to replace my phone with a new one if it breaks. Several visits there to get my phone replaced end with me leaving frustrated and still with a busted phone. Usually the employee I deal with stares blankly at my phone, fiddling with the settings, and says that the only thing they can do is order me a new battery. The new batteries don't fix it, but it takes me a few days to get my phone settings back because I never know what they fiddled with when "examining" it. I get it, they're a big box chain that sells big ticket items and is staffed mostly with teens and part-time college students. But if they really stepped up their game in the customer service division, then maybe I'd actually want to choose them as my main electronics source instead of bracing for another crappy customer service experience the next time I have no choice but to cross their threshold. read more

As far as chain electronic stores go Best Buy is pretty decent. They have competitive prices and the store is clean and well-lit. Sometimes staff are hard to find throughout the store but when you find someone they are always happy to help you. The store is organized nicely with video games on the left, computer stuff in the back and home electronics such as TVs are on your right when you walk in. There are usually website-only sales online as well and they're usually worthwhile to check out online if you're looking for something in particular. read more

I've shopped there 3x recently, for purchases that were far from my area of expertise. The staff who helped me were patient, knowledgeable, and gave great advice without upselling me into things I didn't need. A very comfortable shopping experience, and excellent customer service. Best Buy Canada I do no foresee buying any more electronics, computers or entertainment products from you. This weekend I had the most dismal customer service experience of my life. Today my frustration and angry was added to when I spoke to a `super visor` who was unable to assist with rectifying or arranging compensation for the situation. I work in customer service and this experience has made me feel sick to my stomach. Best buy claims they beat all prices... what they don't tell you is that it's only on select stores. What a gimmick! I usually make my purchases here for home electronics. They tend to have the better prices and the sales staff aren't as pushy as their sister store Future Shop. I even have a rewards zone card. I was very disappointed in my visit there today. I went to purchase a video game that I saw on Amazon for about $7 cheaper. I printed off the web site page and went in for their price matching. "We don't match Amazon" the customer service person said. Oh... then why would I buy the game here when Amazon will ship it (no charge) to my door within 2 days? Answer... I don't. Amazon will get my dollars for this purchase and I'll re-think my future purchases when a reputable online retailer is selling for cheaper. Lesson learned, price matching doesn't mean ALL prices, only the retailers they want to match. read more

I just recently went into this location to have my laptop looked at by Geek Squad, as my laptop was having difficulty charging. Parth was incredibly helpful in fixing up an issue with the pin in my charger in-store for free, saving me a huge expense! Last night was day three of our smart TV shopping marathon and I was pleasantly surprised with the service I received at Best Buy. My strategy going in was to do tons of online research, including price comparisons. However, I was surprised to find that many of the big box stores had sale pricing that was not listed online. Therefore, you have to drag yourself from store-to-store trying to interpret the model numbers, specs and prices. Best Buy was our second last stop and I found a TV marked down $100 but I couldn't figure out the differences between it and a similar model that was also marked down $100 at Future Shop. I pulled-up the full spec sheet on my cell phone and asked the sales associate, Kirk S., to explain the differences. Kirk explained that the biggest difference was the refresh rate and the design of the TV. He was very helpful and knowledgeable about the entire Samsung smart TV line and we made the purchase. Plus they price matched the wireless keyboard that was on sale at Future Shop. Thanks Best Buy. read more

I had a wonderful experience at this Best Buy this week. I had bought a DS game for my son but apparently bought the wrong kind for his game player. I bought a DS3 game when I should have bought a regular DS game. Of course, I didn't realize this until it was opened. Then, I couldn't find the receipt and wasn't even sure if I had bought it at Best Buy or Walmart. Walmart wouldn't take it back because it was opened. I went to Best Buy and explained the situation to the young lady behind the customer service desk. She directed me to the games section and told me to pick out a new game, a regular DS game, not DS3, which I did. She exchanged it for the one I brought back, even though it had already been opened and I was on my way. The whole thing took less than 10 minutes. I went into the store very stressed out thinking I would be completely out of luck and left very happy and totally impressed with their customer service. I will definately go back there in the future for my electronics purchases. Thanks Best Buy! read more

I purchased 4 phones from Worst Buy and as per the recommendation of the sales associate, bought the Gerek Squad Warranty. I was told that this was great protection and if anything happened to the phone it would be covered without question. I have a what is called a stress crack UNDER the glass. Thank god i purchased the warranty. Upon entering Worst Buy and expecting my phone to be replaced I am told that it will be 3 to 7 days before I get a phone that hopefully would be the same and if they cannot replace it with the same phone one of a LESSER value will be provided, I would have to pay a $115.00 deductible and put a $325 deposit on my credit card and when they receive my phone they will credit my card. This is nothing but a swindle plain and simple. At no time during our discussions were any of these caveats disclosed. We were told plain and simple, have an issue obtain a new one. read more

The staff at Best Buy Dartmouth Crossing are exceptional. I have had issues with a TV and a laptop and both times they were courteous and determined to make me happy before leaving the store. James in the Home Theatre department was very knowledgeable and quickly made me feel like he was going to resolve my issue (which he did). I feel like I will continue to buy my electronics from this store mostly because of the great customer service I receive every time. read more
