Best Buy is my default store of choice for my electronic needs. They have a wide selection of electronics, but do not be fooled by their name... their prices are not always the best in town. Some research is required, especially with their sister company Future Shop as they usually have comparable deals. Their price matching guarantee is also helpful. What is convenient about this location is that there is a Future Shop less than 5 minutes away. The downside is that, like every other store in South Edmonton Common, you need a car to get around. The layout of this store is the same as your would find from any other store. Once you walk in you're (usually) welcome by the front greeter. They may become annoying sometimes, however they are really useful for new patrons or if you're in a rush and do not want to waste time for searching for anything yourself. I found the staff somewhat knowledgeable in their area, however I am very tech savy, so I tend to not to bother the staff. The parking lot does get very busy during the Christmas season, and be ready to wait for +30 minutes in the return line at customer service during boxing week!

Well because it is currently a crazy time of year due to the fact that there are about eight days until Christmas I usually try to avoid the big electron stores; one of them is Best Buy. But I was pretty desperate to find an iTunes give card I decided to bite the built. Form the first moment I walked thought the sliding glass doors I felt my anxiety level shoot though the roof. I decided to flag someone down, find my gift card and then get out. The sweet looking young man, who could probably sense my internal turmoil, pointed me in the right direction. After dodging groups of people whom suddenly stop in the aisles (I hate that!) and avoiding getting hit by shopping carts I found my iTunes gift card in the desired demonization. I was so happy that I actually found one, many of the other stores I had been were totally sold out. I was so close to raising my prize in the air and jump around in triumph. As I was one my way to the cash registers cheap cameras starting at $99 stopped me! After fighting an internal battle with my hand to put the camera back (it was either the camera or food for the month) and just walk away. But walking meant running into the DVD department. Movies are great prices! Again, I found myself just trying to say no! After escaping the great deals on movies I ran into a fantastic price on a Wii system for $119. Somebody was against me today because I just kept finding even better things to buy. I found myself suddenly wishing I had someone to hear my Christmas wish list so that they could pick up a little somethin' somethin' for me. Well, here's hoping that some of those prices stick around throughout the year. I am defiantly not going to Best Buy on Boxing Day; that would be suicide. The staff was really relaxed, which was very surprising because the store was like a mad house. The guy in the DVD department was so awesome. He asked me if I needed help finding anything and when I told him that I did not he notified me where he would be just incase I did need anything. So sweet of him! The guy at the till was also pretty great. He told me about this point plan they had and best of all the point card was free, so you bet I picked up one!

    Review Highlights - Best Buy

In general, living 5 years in the US makes me trust Best Buy more than Futureshop when it comes to prices, deals etc.

I have some qualms about London Drugs…read more Sometimes it is a great place to go get things for cheaper than Shoppers Drug Mart and sometimes you can find awesome things like home decor stuff, stereos and computer accessories. There have been several occasions where I have gone here and found my regular hair dye for significantly cheaper than Shoppers, but other times things are outrageous. I went in to get some pictures put on a disc and it cost me $10.99 for the disc and for them to process it. I found out later that it cost significantly cheaper at Wal-Mart and I wished I had headed there instead. You can also do it yourself at Wal-Mart, which makes it much faster. I had to wait about 2 hours for my disc from London Drugs. I will go here every once in a while, but I will generally go to Shoppers instead.

I picked up some things that were on sale ( I am dutch ! We look for sales all the time ! ) . After roaming around I picked up what I needed and looked around for awhile - tons of kitchen accessories and supplies. At the till, the customer ahead of me asked me to not put my stuff on the counter until it's been wiped down. Umm OK. Then she turns to the cashier and began berating her for doing something wrong. All I heard was this paper goes here, this one in the till etc.. followed up with " You dont know what you are doing!" etc. There was a second cashier present ( trainer probably ) and the customer was also telling her what needs to be done etc. Turns out that customer was an employee at the customer service desk . I only knew that because I saw her a few minutes later behind the counter. I never felt so sorry for anyone who stood there being berated by a fellow employee in front of customers. So I asked to speak to the store manager or assistant store manager. This was something I could not let go. I have been to the store many times and other than the bathrooms, this store is super clean, well stocked and the staff have always been great. But today I was a bit in disbelief as to what I was hearing. Speaking to the assistant manager, he agreed 100% that this should never have happened. Will I go back? Yes of course.. but hopefully that cashier will still be working there.

When I got there I met Harsh, Navjot, and Dansh who knew all the latest Bell offers better than the lady on the phone. They also knew all the deals Staples were offering to new Bell customers. All in all I got a way better plan that I'd ever thought I'd get plus some free stuff. Go to Staples in South Common. Talk to Harsh, Navjot, and Dansh. You'll be glad you did. (And BTW, if I sound like I'm the parent of one of them trying to puff them up, I'm not. I'm just a person who walked in there with no expectations.)

Printing area is good but can get busy when there are a lot of people photocopying stuff. I think the price for their simple school items are still overpriced, best bet is to get them at dollar stores or on seasonal sales. I do like their computer stations or desks, some look almost top of the line but assembly might be up there. I have bought one from them long time ago and lasted years, so they are pretty durable. Staff is friendly and parking is moderately big. I believe they still have washrooms. Recommended for anyone looking to browse around for school supplies but bring your thinking cap if the price is high. Electronics is the way to go but it all depends what your there for, i'm gonna wait for sales.
