I spent 7 hours trying to figure out how to order and upgrade a new computer from out of town so I could pick it up ready one my days off. It was a frustrating pain in the neck. Automated phone lines with A.I. generated responses that could not understand my situation. Phoned Memory Express on the South side of Edmonton and Reese, (a human being), answered and understood what I needed and exactly how to procure it. I am not a computer expert but I knew what I wanted and what questions to ask. My solution took 5 minutes for Reese to develop. I wish there were more stars to give. I was blown away by his knowledge and professionalism. I will be driving past 20 other computer places to get to this particular store. Thanks again Reese. I love this store. It's really great to have a local tech company with qualified staff at your fingertips. At the moment, they are just not able to answer the phones due to sheer volume and staffing, so calling for curbside or other information is not possible. It's a pandemic...everyone take a breath, they will still help you out - and with a smile! There is NO in-person shopping. I'd definitely recommend shopping online, getting all your screen shots or part numbers on a list before you arrive to not waste the staff's time as they are BUSY. I arrived and the parking lot wasn't very busy - good sign. There were only a couple of folks ahead of me, and the floor is clearly marked for physical distancing, and someone was at the door to direct guests. Staff were all super busy, and I went late at night to avoid people... the staff were cheerful, HELPFUL, and went to great lengths to find the borescope/endoscope camera I came for (the website said there were 8 in stock,) so it was just a matter of finding their hiding spot. It took two staff to locate it, and locate it they did. I felt safe, staff sanitized the PIN pad after every guest, and I witnessed frequent cleaning by all the staff at the registers. I like to shop local... a lot, and I want to keep my IT peeps fed and housed. I like having a local shop that I can return or exchange items if there's an issue, and Memory Express does that and more for my personal and work needs. Ordering online... you can do that too! They definitely ship, and I wouldn't hesitate except I needed it sooner than later to check my vent for birds/nests - yes it's November/December, but I don't want to block any feathered friends inside before putting on the screening! The only location offering Curbside right now is in Manitoba, however, with the upcoming new restrictions in Alberta, check with them on Monday...that may change! read more

The Only Thing Brick and Mortar Stores have to offer is customer service. BIG fail Memory Express Edmonton South side I wanted to ask a simple question I was looking for a gaming laptop fast enough to run my embroidery program. I looked on the floor and did not see one that had what I needed. I did lots of research. They had a sign saying we have over 200 models ask us. The store manager and one other person was standing behind a platform that said sales reps. Chatting away. I was told I had to get in line to talk for a sales rep. There was about 30 people (none looking impressed) in the line and more joining by the minute. I was not about to waste a long time standing in line to be told they did not have what was needed. I asked if he could just take a minute and look up on the computer he was standing by. He said no you have to get in line. I had a friend waiting in the fix it line (they were great) so I had a bit of time to kill in the store waiting to drive her home. I then with my new found knowledge and pictures on my phone and price list from doing my research worked the floor for them. I told customers who were looking and trying to figure out why they wanted a 7 instead of a 5. I told them who had sales on and at what price. lol I am amazing at sales. Sold sewing machines and other stuff for years I spent twenty minutes working the sales floor for all of their competition. They not only lost my $$$ they lost the $$$$ of three other people. I bought a great one with extended warranty at Costco. Paul the sales associate at Costco was fabulous and soooooo helpful. I spent big $$ and got exactly what I needed I love this laptop Faster then the speed of light I upgraded to Starlink for my server. It's a very good place for computer related shopping and services. Unlike many other stores, at this place you can find knowledgeable staff who are happy to help you, even if they don't make money out of that help. I went there today for an issue I had for opening PDF files, and the technician help me and explained what the issue may be and recommended a couple of things for me to try. It gives me a good feeling when I see there is a place that they don't think just about making money out of your headaches. I've been going there for shopping parts, computer and services and every time I go there I come out happy. I purchased a replacement plan when I bought the device, but when I brought it in for inspection because of a weak battery, they told me that the plan was void because the screen had been damaged. I told them the screen got cracked soon after I bought the tablet, and that it wasn't a problem, but they wouldn't listen. Bottom line: if you're considering buying a replacement plan from Memory Express, be aware that they'll try to revoke it with every ridiculous excuse they can think of. read more

One of only two places in the city I would buy a computer from. staff is friendly and more then willing to help you build a computer even if you are like me and not a 100% sure what part works with what mother board. I've lost count of how many systems I've had build by memory express. but all of them have been great and better then anything your going to find at a big box store that sells already built systems. They have everything you would need to build your own computer and if you don't know how to build your own computer (like me) they will make it for you. All you have to do is pick out what you want. Most brand name computers are built so poorly these days. I know many people who have just gotten new computers and they experience some kind of errors with them already. I didn't really know about this store until my SO told me how good it was. She is in the IT field and buys a lot of stuff there so I think that is a great stamp of approval. They have a ton of cool stuff there. Lots of computer parts and doo-dads, audio/video, software/gaming, tv's/home-theatre, cameras, and much more! They also have daily deals on their website so check them out online if you haven't. They are pretty much like a low budget Best Buy. A smaller store, with less staff but with just as much knowledge if not more. Prices are comparable to what you might find online. Why buy online when you can buy it here when you need it without waiting for it to be delivered? Returns would be much less of a hassle as well. The one downfall that everyone mentions is that sometimes the store can be busy and you have to wait in line what feels like an unreasonable amount of time. +5 Stars for product, price and knowledge -1 Star for customer service (need more staff, less wait times in line) read more

Their prices are very competitive and I've actually used them (NCIX and Newegg as well) for price matching against Best Buy and Futureshop. Even if you're one of those newbies when it comes to computers and actually care about where your money goes to when you're looking for anything computer related, the staff there are pretty helpful to point you in the right direction and even give you good recommendations: why I should pay an extra $5 dollars to get twice the harddrive space and I wouldn't need the full benefits of a Caviar Black line of harddrives. Their prices are often (but not always) cheaper than ordering online, and you can get pick it up and bring it home in less than an hour. The other night I rushed out to Memory Express to pick up a cable I needed, and I arrived there 5 minutes before closing. The salesperson didn't rush me, and was pretty chatty as well. Memory Express carries a wide variety of quality products at usually good prices which is why they are on my places to check for computer related items. My experience today was less than spectacular. Mainly due to the person who served me. One of the items I wanted was a refurbished Lenovo desktop computer. There were two models available: One has Windows XP Professional and the other Windows 7 Home. When I told the dude I wanted the Windows XP machine he immediately said, "You don't want XP." and launched into a speech about support for XP expiring soon and I could download something malicious and be stuck. First mistake: Telling me that what I'm asking for is the wrong item without asking why I asked for what I did. This is common among novice salespeople. Second mistake: Providing me with incorrect information regarding Windows XP. I so badly wanted to tell him he was full of steer manure. Flogging an overpriced extended warranty means Memory Express will never get 5 stars from me. This guy at least shut up about extended warranty when I turned him down the first time. One other thing regarding Memory Express: Prices are subject to change with almost no notice. I've found a good deal on their web site only to find a higher price the next day when I visited the store. Depending the item, I usually price compare with Best Buy. read more

Memory Express is a pretty awesome for computers and other electronics. The store is pretty big, mostly it's filled computer accessories and some display models of laptops, computers, and TVs. You really need to check out their website to shop their stock, which is extensive. I've found some really great deals here on laptops, accessories, and LCD monitors. You can pretty much find anything that is related to computers here and some really good brands like Toshiba and LG; however, they do carry some more economical brands as well. Other electronics they are sell cameras, MP3 players, and projectors. Once you find what you're looking for on the website, you can call and have them hold the item for you and pick it up at the store. The return policy is great here too. I actually bought an LCD monitor here, but I didn't like it and wanted to return it. Even though the box was opened and I had used it for a week, they took it back, no problem! I was really impressed by that. It's best to keep checking their website, because deals keep changing. Some of the deals are so good that stock sells out really fast though. This place is on the Southside, which has never been convenient for me, but I'm really happy that there's a Northside location opening soon! The staff here are also very knowledgeable, so if you're not the most savvy when it comes to computers or other electronics, these guys will totally help you out. read more

Great place to buy computer parts. Check the store stock for what you want online, then go to the store and you're in and out in minutes. Their return policy is great - since I've bought so much here, I've had a few times when I've wanted to return something and they've always been decent about it and have made it a fairly painless experience. Their warranty service is not as good. I had some RAM go bad under the extended warranty from them. I tested it at home to make sure it was bad, then took it in. I told them how I had tested it, they told me that they test RAM the exact same way, but would have to run their test to confirm. I said okay, knowing that it was a 10-minute test and I would likely be able to come get my new RAM the next day. Days went by before I phoned and asked about any progress. A few more days went by before they got to it. When purchasing the extended warranty they say it's much faster than sending it to the manufacturer, but in this case it wasn't faster by much. I've walked in with wanting to purchase a laptop in the back of my mind, and they rarely have up-to-date demo units running, let alone demo units running at all. As others mentioned, salespeople will rarely ask if you need help or are looking for something in particular (most people come in knowing what they want, so this is perhaps forgivable), which doesn't really work for someone mulling a laptop purchase. Also, they expanded into selling TVs, which seems like an odd fit for a place that's largely "come in and get the specific part you already know you want". Any time I've browsed their TVs, no salesperson has approached me (not sure if this is good or bad) and I haven't been impressed by their selection or how they display TVs (they do not have the right space/lighting/etc to demo TVs). If you want a computer part or accessory and you know what you want, this is a great place to go. Beyond that, you're likely to receive more help online or at Best Buy. read more

For all of my computer needs, I always check with Memory Express. They are one of the few companies in Edmonton that allow you to build a computer from scratch for your specific needs. Being a gamer I needed something powerful and up to date- something that was not offered at some of the big box electronic stores. The staff are fantastic here. Their training and knowledge of computer components is very apparent, and they often make recommendations and check compatibility when you're building your own computer. Luckily I had a friend who has experience building computers to help me, but I know Memory Express offers an assembly service as well. They also have very competitive prices on monitors, televisions, and laptops. Their selection of laptops is not very great, although I found their net-book prices to be quite competitive against those from other electronic stores. I trust the service offered by Memory Express. Whenever one of my computer components fails, I simply go to Memory Express for a new part, and swap is in right away. If you want to build a computer from scratch, these guys have all the parts. Putting together home WiFi, you'll be boggled by the choices. The only way mere humans can navigate here is that the staff are all really knowledgeable and really really helpful in translating techy into English. Pretty much any component for PC computers are on the shelf. I'm talking cases, fans, motherboards, video and sound cards, optical drives, wiring, power supply and even lighting effects for the bling factor. They also sell digital still and video cameras, universal remotes, and Acer and ASUS laptops. This visit I notice they've gone much more heavily into TVs. After being frustrated and getting the run around from Shaw customer service they sent me here to get a replacement on my external hard drive for my PVR. My wife and I walked in to no line (I know some reviews talk about the long lines - not sure if we lucked out going in on a weekday evening or if they've finally fixed that issue). That said the customer service can be pretty varied and it is set up as a shop that is more friendly to the computer savvy and geek type people rather than for the average end-user. First they return policy sucks! 7 days. WALMART has 90 days. Second, when they sell you something they offer the extended warranty for extra. They told me that if I bought the extended warranty, if "ANYTHING GOES WRONG WITH IT, BRING IT IN" DON'T BUY IT!! I did on a webcam (the camera was $239.99 and the extended warranty was $23.99). BTW the SOURCE's warranty if bulletproof; if anything goes wrong bring it back and they will replace it and if they don't carry it anymore YOU GET AN UPGRADE! I bought because I am a tech and know that something like this, you can run into problems after 7 days because you have to use all of the features and test with the other components it works with. I had issues playing recordings so I figured I would call D-LINK and was working with them to try and resolve the issue. It took some time and after they exhausted all attempts to get it working. So back to Memory Express because I bought the extended warranty,right? NOPE after talking with them, they told me that they wouldn't take it back, NOR exchange it and they best they could offer was to sell for me to sell it on Kijiji!!! read more

Could have financed it that day np since I had already bought 3 computers from them before but asked if they'd prefer to skip all the paper work from it and I'd be in next week when I got paid and just do it all in cash. Came in like I promised, with my receipt. They assured me that all the parts I wanted were reserved and put aside for when I come back in... Showed up with cash in hand and they told me they sold my parts.. Now thanx to them my 9 yro niece isn't getting her new computer for xmas. Or maybe not. Used to spend thousands of dollars here. Bought parts to build my next system and passed on the warranty for a hard drive. The rep instructed me that if I was going to spend that much money and not get a warranty I should toss it in the trash now. Also bought a 1800 dollar laptop got the warranty as I bought it for work. Dvd drive stopped working brought it in for service under said warranty. Got my computer back with a new dvd drive which was great, what wasn't so great is the technician snapped my back hinge and shorted my keyboards back light. I get handed my laptop and told that Its damaged and yeah its my fault. Funny as it worked when I dropped it off and my hinge was still connected. I called the and informed the manager and regional manager of what had happened. They were very quick to promise me resolution but after a few emails and calls they dropped off the face of the planet. I was told by the manager that they just needed to flip a switch on the main board to re-enable my back light. After sending it off to asus direct I can assure you the people who built the computer can confirm no such switch exists. So here I am with a beat up 1800 dollar laptop that there tech trashed, no response from any of memory express management cause there done pretending to care. Honnestly dont let the fanboys blind you go to a big box store at least them pretending to care doesnt have a time limit. Also if you call a manager at least someone will return your calls eventually. read more

I can't talk about this place enough. As a small store that's grown to a small chain they've been great to deal with. The good stuff: - they really try to help, and any tech question you got they can answer - I've taken my computers (yes more then one, in fact 12) in that have problems and they can usually diagnose without charging you saving me a Tonn of time and money - they carry hard to find and unique products - competitive price on all products - great in store warranty - the employees have a great attitude. The not so good stuff: - yes there are lines, so it's not a quick in and out when there is a sale - returns are inspected thoroughly which takes time - sometimes things are slow when it comes to service or getting answers or getting help - shorter return period then big box competitors. If you have technical questions, the staff is well-equipped to help you - anything from the parts you'll need for your system to software and bench-mark advice. I've always been very happy with purchases and customer service here. On the downside, Memory Express has a number of clients that feel the same way I do - the store is usually busy, so be prepared to wait a little. That said, there's more than enough to look at while you wait, and prices are quite decent. Being in sales I can appreciate a properly trained attentive associate. By chance I was looking for a laptop and a customer of mine happens to work there. Actually both of them do they are a couple. Neither are in sales but directed me to Darcy at the south store location. After a short wait for Darcy we were very happy with his knowledge and integrity. We wanted a pretty decent laptop for fun, work and school and told him what we wanted. Well this baby purrs and does it all and then some and he came in $500.00 under budget as well. Good pointers on accessories, needs and steering the wants. Not much pressure at all and above all he listened to what we wanted and respected the budget we had in mind. Won't return to Memory Express for future purchases. Been coming to ME for the past 5 years to build and upgrade new gaming systems and this experience set me off. Ive recently purchased a sizeable amount of hardware totaling just over $3000, one item of which was a $100 motherboard for a new system. This motherboard had a processor installed by their technicians. I found that the pins on the CPU socket were bent when switching out the processor into a more desirable motherboard and brought it in for a refund. Customer service was non existent as it felt as I was immediately identified as at fault for the damage. Manager Peter was only concerned with his bottom line stating that they would take a "hit" because nobody wants to buy a refurbished board and that there was nothing they could do outside of returning the board to the manufacturer. Even in the event that the board was fixed they would not definitely state that I would be able to have it returned. He even mentioned I could spend $50 to fix it then get a partial refund, are you serious? Peter even had the audacity to mention that the reviewed footage shows the tech didn't do anything out of the ordinary which is absurd. Unless there is a camera directly above the workstation, zoomed in, and in amazing quality there would be no definitive way to determine if the cpu socket pins were bent or not during the mounting process. Give me a break, I've seen their released pictures from their system of people who steal from them and the quality isn't even close. I regret purchasing a 2080 TI ( and the rest of the components) from Memory Express and if it weren't for their shady final sale policy on these cards I'd return it. I'll be dismantling my new build and returning everything else that I purchased from them. The disrespect was unwarranted. TLDR; Spent $3000, $100 MOBO was damaged and was refused a refund for it, blamed for the damage, will be returning the rest and purchasing elsewhere. Don't expect a smooth IPR or return experience as their bottom line is more important than their motto of "creating customers for life". Shop amazon instead as you can find items the same price, or cheaper and they will actually cater to the customer instead of themselves in the event of a return. read more
