Wife called to see if they had a specific TV to view on display to see the picture in person. The woman she spoke with kept trying to sell her it over the phone, saying the price and that they were selling fast and she should buy now. My wife repeatedly said she would like to see it first before any purchase and if there was one on display to view however the woman just kept repeating the same thing. Eventually hung up after trying to clarify over 5 times and never found out if they actually have that model to see. Called the Downers Grove store who was very helpful and easily told us they had one to view on their sales floor. Wouldn't ever go to this store based off this experience. Best Buy had "open box" TV at decent price. I tried calling the store that had that TV in "good" condition open box. Instead of being connected to that store I got some foreign customer service agent. She told me that she is on chat with the actual store and that this TV has all included: remote, box, etc. So I placed this order and drove 1.5 hours to the store. As I entered the store and approached the counter I was presented with bare TV with nothing, no box, no power cord, no remote. NOTHING! I asked for the manager and he showed up. Name is Alejandro. He said that nobody ever communicated about this TV and order. So phone agent LIED to me that she is chatting with the store rep. She lied to me that this is a complete TV with everything included. There was another TV of the same model that had everything but the manager claimed that it was sold two days ago. There are two bare TVs of that model left at the store. I asked for additional discount and the manager declined. I asked for better TV at the same price: manager declined. DO NOT PATRONIZE BEST BUY! STAY AS FAR AWAY AS YOU CAN! read more

TERRIBLE service. I bought a fridge on Tuesday before Thanksgiving. I was told it will arrive the following Tuesday. I get notifications saying it will be arriving between 9:30-1:30pm. I get a test at 11:12 that they will arrive at 11:30. I get a call at 11:14 that they are outside my house and to let them in. I go get them only to be informed that the delivery drivers have no fridge in their truck for me. There was a "delay" and to call Best Buy. I call customer service and they were ZERO help. The girl who I spoke to gave me attitude when I asked to get a refund for at least the delivery fee moving forward. She said "well they need to get paid for the delivery" LIKE IT IS MY PROBLEM!? Then offers an undisclosed amount of a gift card and acted insulted when I asked how much it would be for. Then I hang up and go to the store, only for them to say there was nothing they can do. No expiditing. No credit. No discount. Just "we can reschedule if for next Monday and ask for credit from corporate after and see what they can do".... OKAY. I cancelled my order so fast and found a better outlet in Bensenville, IL. It is called A1 Applicances. Ya'll should check it out. Got the SAME fridge for $700 cheaper. read more

Not your typical Best Buy store, so don't expect any fancy displays or wide selections of aux cables. This is a Best Buy outlet store that specializes in selling open-box and refurbished products. Great place to go if you are looking for a good deal on appliances. When people return an appliance because it doesn't fit, they decide they don't like it, damaged upon delivery, etc., it gets sent here. This store had tons of open-box refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens, washers, dryers, etc. marked down hundreds of dollars for things like "sticker residue" or "scratches" that are hardly visible. The electronics section was mediocre, but I didn't spend too much time looking over there. We made the drive here for a washing machine and it was well worth it - saved about $650. Quick checkout process and they wrapped the machine up in plenty of bubble wrap and shrink wrap. Also helped us load it. Definitely check this store out if you're looking for an appliance or more open-box selection than your local Best Buy has! read more

This review is being written on behalf of Mr. G. Johnson. Mr. Johnson is a full time disabled student who attends Lincoln Tech College. Mr. Johnson's laptop was accidentally damage in the garage area of the school. Best Buy is hereby, taking advantage of a handicap person by refusing to honor their own Warranty agreement for said device which is clearly still under warranty. (See Ex's: 1 & A) Lincoln tech Purchased a large number of these laptops for their students from Best Buy /Geek Squad. Each laptop has a 2 year warranty From Best Buy/Geek Squad according to Best Buy devices, services and coverage plan as stated Mr. Johnson's laptop is covered. After informing Lincoln Tech of the accidental damage to his laptop the school instructed him to take the laptop to the Geek squad at Besy Buy at: 1334 Winston Plz Melrose Park, Il for repairs or replacement as the laptop was still under to the 2 year warrantey. On 11/11/2018 Mr. Johnson took the laptop to Best Buy for repairs, at which time Geek squad employee verified that the laptop was still under the 2 year warranty, and made note of damage to the laptop Then he took possession of the laptop and process it for repairs. A few days later Mr. Johnson received a phone call from Best Buy to pick his laptop up from the Melrose Park store at which time he was informed by Geek squad Manager Ashley Hawkins that his warranty would not be honored because the damage was to great to the device. Mr. Johnson informed Lincoln Tech of Best Buys decision not to repair his laptop, and the reason Hawkins gave. Lincoln tech did not agree with the Geek Squad position, and decided to look into the terms of Best Buys warranty agreement, and found under the condition that the laptop was accidentally damaged the laptop was in fact covered. (See Ex: A) On 11/13/18 armed with this information Mr. Johnson took his laptop back to the Melrose Park store in hope of resolving this matter once and for all. The Geek Squad employee who first processed Mr. Johnson's laptop took note of the Best Buy device service coverage agreement. This employee exam the document Mr. Johnson provided him with regards to Best Buy device services and coverage and noted in the section (what is accidental damage) that there was a website address explaining in more detail of what accident to damage means. (See Ex: A) Upon review of the website Geek Geek Squad protection plan. Geek Squad employee pointed out (What's is Not covered?) with regards to the website. The Geek Squad employee cited paragraph 6. b. Which states: Theft, misplacemen, reckless, abusive, willful or intentional conduct associated with handling and use of the Covered Product. Paragraph 6. b. does not apply to the situation as the damage was accidental and explained in detail to the Geek Squad employee as how the damage was incurred doing the initial processing phase of device. Nevertheless, Geek Squad has decided not to honor the warranty coverage of said device citing, (See Ex: b. & ba) Mr. Johnson is a disable student attending Lincoln college of technology for automotive service management. With a great deal of difficulty with regards to his disability he is attempting to earn an Associate's Degree. With the use of his laptop it provides him with specific reasonable accommodations to assist him with his learning disability, without this device it makes his learning experience more difficult then it already is. However, it is necessary to point out that Mr. Johnson Is also protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Best Buy is clearly taking advantage of someone who needs all the assistance they can get to be on equal footing with the rest of society. Best Buy/Geek Squad should be ashamed as a business for not honoring their warranty agreements. In doing so Best Buy/Geek Squad is hurting someone who is Disabled. These pictures represent the exterior damage that was on the unit when we installed it on Saturday afternoon. My wife and I were very careful and had one of the neighbor kids help us so we didn't damage anything it obviously was hit on its side and back and some of the fence have been pressed in. The orange stickers are the labels that were on the box when I picked it up indicating that Old Dominion had had an incident of some type with the Box. It appears to be functioning fairly well, occasionally when the compressor kicks and you can hear noise, kind of a scraping noise that comes and goes. Probably most concerning to me is we have this exact same unit in our bedroom I've had it for over a month now, and it doesn't make that noise at all. Anyway, I appreciate you following up. Praises to Perry who helped me find the extended protection plan for my Fitbit. My Fitbit band fell apart a few days ago and I had not had a chance to get to Best buy until Sunday. I love my Fitbit and cannot live without it but I wasn't ready to drop another 150$ on a replacement. I asked someone in GEEK squad to help me find my extended warranty and this person could not find my extended warranty. I only buy electronics at Best Buy because they have the best extended warranty plans. Even if it costs a little extra it is well worth it. That's why I was super surprised when the first guy said I didn't have one. I went in the back of the store and found a few younger guys at the register and Perry was able to help me locate the extended warranty that I did in fact buy. On Wednesday, September 7th I purchased a Maytag gas dryer from the Melrose Park outlet. I requested a Saturday date but that was not available. I was given a Tuesday, September 13 th12-6p delivery on Tuesday morning today I received an email confirming my delivery and adjusting my time to 12-4p. To only find out that I will not be getting the dryer. I'm going on vacation and now find myself in a position that I have to go to the laundry mat. On top of that I can't get my money back for up yo 5 business days. Needless to say this company is no longer my go to for appliances. All of my appliances have come from this company in the past. Which is exactly what I did yesterday when my monolithic 53" DLP TV went tits up. I'd purchased things from the Winston Plaza BB before and the experiences were pretty neutral. Employees appeared lackadaisical but the store was laid out nicely and I had no trouble finding the things I sought. With a $400 budget, I found a nice 49" Toshiba 4K HDTV with built-in Chromecast. The sales associate was kind enough to inform me that I'd need a matching 4K-compatible HDMI cable and gave me some quick info regarding the resolution specs on my purchase. I also found 'Now You See Me' in the DVD bargain bin for five bucks, so that was a sweet little extra. Not the 'Best' Best Buy, but certainly not the *worst* Best Buy.....Mediocre Buy?? read more

I ordered a chest freezer for pickup at this store weeks in advance. I received an email notification that it was available, but once I arrived, the employees could not find my freezer anywhere. How do you lose a chest freezer? One of the employees tried to order me another one, but it was sold out indefinitely. I suppose that's how you "lose" it - it's sold or given to someone else when there aren't others like it available. I'm probably too nice in not making this a one star review, but the gal who helped me was very apologetic...although in the end, she couldn't help me at all. read more

This has got to be the worst Best Buy branch location out there. Prepare for a long review. Having had grown up around 15 minutes away, I have been to this Best Buy location many times over the years. If I had never been to their other locations, this review would likely be closer to a 3 or 4 stars. Best Buy is a great chain for those closer to cities, and areas thst lack local technology stores. Their prices are reasonable, and they often stock a wide variety of products. Most locations I have visited are pretty well kept, and the employees are knowledgeable about the products. This location is the polar opposite of those statements. This location tends to be filthy, especially the bathrooms. I have had employees here ignore me, and others insist I am looking for something other than I have stated. A great example - I came here last year around the holidays looking for the DVD set of the original TV series of The Twilight Zone that I saw at another location. After roaming the store, and finally getting help from an employee, a good 15 minutes of searching shelves passed before he made comments that made me realize he thought I was looking for the Twilight movie series. This employee was around my age (25), if not older, and I am still astounded he had never heard of The Twilight Zone. He ended up giving up on helping me, even though the website had it listed as in stock. read more

They do not answer the phone. I tried calling geek squad and the normal store and it just keeps ringing. Trash customer service. If they cannot answer the phone, I cannot trust them to install a new car radio which is why I called. It seems like this is a reoccurring issue with many Best Buy stores. My microwave of 3 years stopped working. I called the geek squad for an in home repair since I have the 5 year warranty. They sent a repair man out to my house who walked in pushed a few buttons on a non working microwave, took a picture of the QR code inside the door and said ok I will order 2 parts and come back in a week. Then the repair man wakes out of house and left. He did not use any tools to test the unit to diagnosed the problem nor did he give me a receipt that he came to my house or a new appointment to try the new parts. I called the geek squad again the next day and they had no parts ordered from the tech and no new appointment for me. They said they will allow me to get a brand new microwave since my plan covers it. They sent me a UPS return label after telling me to bring the microwave to the store to exchange it. I called back again to confirm bringing the microwave to the store and the agent hung up on me. Now on my fourth call I was told that's is not how they conduct things and not the protocol. I let them know that is is protocol for the repair person to not use a test kit on my microwave and spend only 3 minutes looking at the microwave before leaving, not giving me a receipt, or new appointment. Their response was no! I asked for a new microwave for all my inconvenience, I was told they have to consult with their manager and was out on hold. They put me on hold for 6 minutes to consult with their manager when they hung up on me again. I will no longer do businesses with Best Buy or their geek squad for home appliances. Literally driving up the street to Costco to buy a laptop and fitbit, because the store vs online shopping could not meet my immediate needs. I would choose zero stars, but unfortunately that is not an option... I went to the Best Buy in Melrose Park to return a laptop I had purchased from another store (I should preface this story by stating I was within the 15 day return period listed on my receipt and all parts of the laptop were included.) Everything was going fine until the manager was called over to authorize the return. His name was Julio and not only did he not introduce himself, but he proceeded to tell me he could not return my laptop. That returns were based on manager discretion and (wait for the stupid excuse).. he could not return the laptop due to open box issues he was having at the store. Sorry, sir not my problem! I tried to get on the phone with Best Buy corporate, who had already closed and tried to call the original store I had purchased the laptop from and was unsuccessful... I asked for another manager and unfortunately the other two were on vacation. I kept calling with no luck in reaching anyone at another Best Buy. Julio then took my receipt and stated he was going to call the manager at the store I purchased from and get back to me... (Bull) He came back and stated I had not purchased anything from their Melrose Park store before. (No idea how this had anything to do with my return!?) He handed me back my receipt and said sorry, I will not accept this return. I asked for him to show me this rule in writing at which he proceeded to show me the receipt where it states if all items were not returned, Best Buy has the right to deny the return. Not the case here at all. He made absolutely no sense and I cannot believe Best Buy has people like this in management. I asked for his business card and he said he didn't have one and went on to tell me the other two managers names as I threatened to call corporate. I left the store and proceeded to call them back the next day hoping to speak to the district manager (Julio's boss.) The admin woman said she could not provide me any contact information for David Jones, so I left her with my contact information and surprise, surprise have yet to hear from anyone. Hi, David! STILL WAITING TO SPEAK WITH YOU.... I have since went to the original store, Best Buy in Downers Grove, and was told the manager had no reason not to accept my return. I went on to call corporate who has "supposedly" documented my complaint and I specifically requested a call back from Mr. Jones who apparently doesn't find the need to return my call. I will no longer give any of my business to Best Buy and urge anyone in the Melrose Park area to steer clear of this location. If I were to just zip in and buy say... a new television... and zip out, I would like this store. In fact, I think it's possible to do that at this Best Buy! If that's all you want to do, then I think you should go! The isles are clean and well organized. There are lots of sales associates milling about and eager to help. Besides the usual asking you if you: 1) Want to buy a warranty 2) Want to sign up for their credit card 3) Want to enroll in their Rewards Zone program The purchase of general merchandise is easy peasy! So where's the wrench? Well, it's pretty much all related to customer service. They don't answer the phone, most of them didn't listen or make eye-contact with me when I brought multiple computers in for repairs (that's how my hard drive ended up replaced without being backed up first), and the customer service desk (for returns and exchanges) is slow. My two stars are because I've had so much stress related to this location that it gives me residual anxiety going in for basic purchases. I've been to this location often over several years, mostly for computer repairs (I purchased the warranty). Just yesterday I researched a product online (I would have bought it online and avoided the store) and discovered that it was only available in the store. When I went in, the sales associate didn't know what I was talking about, the item wasn't there, and I ended up buying something else instead. I recently purchased a replacement phone from this Best Buy and was extremely pleased with my service. At one point there were three team members working to solve problems for me. They were really helpful and willing to get assistance from other coworkers as needed. They offer water and seating if it's going to be a long "fix". Truly, I was really impressed with my service. I should also note that I visited them after a bad thunderstorm. I didn't know that their power had been out, but still the pre-service that I received made me want to go back. I went back tonight to have speakers installed in my 10 year old car...crazy I know but I spend three hours a day commuting and I was down to one semi-functioning speaker. They have a master certified installation technician there named Tim who is amazing and the nicest guy. There are only 200 of these technicians in the US and the prices were extremely reasonable. There were two parts I purchased that he didn't need so he even told me I could return them-very honest, I would have never known. He told me everything I could have wanted to know about my system before and after and fined tuned the settings for optimal listening. The manager told us how he recently did a custom job of installing an iPad Dock in the console of a car with lots of bells and whistles. This is hands down the best Best Buy I've been too in terms of the staff and customer attention. Patrick and his team were very accommodating in helping me get my vehicle back after walking there with my dog. I was very impressed with how professional yet personal the staff was. I went in solely for the purpose of snatching up a blu-ray player. I have fallen in love with this HD craze since scoring a massive tv deal through best buy and wanted to make the switch to BLU! Ugh! The shining moment of the experience was a nice young man in the home entertainment department named Joshua. (I called him Josh when I thanked him for his help. I sure hope it didn't make him cry.) I had grabbed up a nice little player and was looking for a surge protector. He helped walk me through the different types and didn't treat me like an idiot when I didn't know that I should be feeding my cable through this special surge protector. Josh was right! It has filtered out all the yucky stuff (he had a better word for it but I know the tv looks better!). So, I grab a few blu-rays, an awesome Hello Kitty mousepad and head to check out. Wait! There aren't any lights on. There is someone checking a person out but the light intended to signify that the register is open is not on. So I go and stand in line where there is no sign but clearly those people are being assisted by an employee. I wait a good 5 minutes. The employee without the light on is just standing there now and decides to flip her light on. I walked on over but she was not very warm or inviting. I don't think she was down to work. What was the most disturbing about this experience is that I stood there for at least five minutes while 5 employees just stood around not very far from me. I am not returning to this best buy. When purchases need to be made, I will go to the one near work. They are awesome down there. read more

Actually, Zero. I bought a 27" MAC and a Dell Inspiro (I never consider their products but the salesperson talked me into it). After a week, Apple updated and the computer went out. They would not refund because it was not in the same condition purchased (I updated it). I didn't buy Geek squad so that was the end of conversation with the manager. Took it to Apple and they gave me a new one. Here a year later, the Dell doesn't recognize the hard drive. Remember people, you reap what you sow and I expect that by now the salesperson, the manager and the owners realize my lost is there loss magnified; my fight is spiritual. Treat people just and fair. Don't know why Yelp thinks I'm from San Fran. I'm from Chicago. Go to Triton College. Anyway... I've been shopping this location since the early 2000s. I assume their problem is simply one of lack of leadership, namely management, specifically quality service and conflict resolution skillsets. The merch is the merch, the warranties are what are, they price match, return and repair ...sometimes ...begrudgingly. So, though I wouldn't sacrifice my family to this place, I can survive visits at this, my local store, when necessary. The only thing they are consistently happy to do is take and keep as much of your money as possible. I can't believe they are still in business. I assume they have a fairly high employee turnover as the environment is ripe for firings and resignations. You can smell the indifference in the air. Don't get me wrong, the technology is state of the art and there are some AMAZING individuals there but they are eclipsed by the location's overwhelming 1 Star staff and practices (and that comes from leadership ...or lack thereof). If you can, do your own research, order online or visit another location (Downers Grove and HIP consistently great for me). This location is how I know "Best Buy reserves the right to deny any return" - read the back of your receipts. A multi-BILLION dollar organization with a pushcart "All Sales are Final" loophole (it takes the Atty General to remedy, when they don't want to return a computer covered with food and fingerprints they'd sold to me as NEW. See atty general inquiries about this location from 2016). Winston Plaza's bullying foot-patrolman respond more to intimidate customers with disputes, than discourage crime. When those brutes show up, I suggest you call the real police. And as the police advised me "do not leave the store with these mall cops" They were trying to get me to exit the store, "just step right outside the doors" even though they heard police telling me not to move an inch. Tense huh? They insisted I step right outside the doors. The police said do not step outside. They'll write it up, give you a report number, escort you to your car. Pursue it as a civil consumer matter. And Oh, if you bought it online or at another store and try to return it to this location? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL I said "Nevermind" and drove 35 min and two tolls to Downers Grove. What was I thinking? ONE GREAT THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION!!! This store really encourages me to do my due diligence in research and review and comparisons before buying expensive tech. They make me think thrice before shucking out $1000s. They actually saved me money by turning me off to purchases. Were it not for their shadiness i would have bought a 3D TV, a 2nd BOSE home sound system, them curved computer monitors. I'll get a game from them but was forced to go elsewhere for my Xbox and PS4 systems. I had to go back yesterday, yet again, because one of my speakers in my car became disconnected. They finally decided it's a good idea to have more than one person doing installations. On top of that, the young dude who fixed my speaker problem was very helpful/friendly, and seemingly knowledgeable about what he was doing. The closest Best Buy for me (when I am at work). I do not have big need for BB...but I am glad it is here. I have purchased external hard drives here.....boy they really are getting smaller in size and larger in capacity. Wonderful! The best BEST BUY store I have visited. Ever. I have visited many Best Buy stores all over Chicagoland. I have even visited Best Buy stores in other states but the one in Melrose is by far the best one. The staff is always nice, informative and pleasant. They usually have what I need in stock, the layout is better than any other Best Buy store I have been to and the staff working the door is always quick to assist when I am making my way out the door with a large item. I took my husband here to pick out a soundbar for his birthday. The salesman was not very helpful and had no idea what he was talking about. While all of this was going on, we were being hounded by a Direct TV salesman. No matter how many times we told him we signed up for ATT (literally the day before), he would not stop! Not going back. I called the Geek Squad today and I was put on hold for 40 minutes. When they finally connected me, I had the most nervous and inept person assist me. She kept telling me to hang on because her computer was not working properly, to which I replied, you guys have tons of computers just grab one and install the software you need to run it properly, I'm sure you can, after all you are geek squad. I'm so annoyed by their service over the phone that I will not recommend this place. read more

The worst experience ever ,My husband,son and I went to buy some headphones ,While there My husband asked one of the staff members if we can purchase a pair(Headphones) two pair because the head phone were locked up inside a locked cabinet, one staff member stated that he has to go and get a key, a few min later another staff member came with the keys and unlock the cabin he then hands me the head phone and walks away in the mean time,I put the headphone in my cart that was provided at the store but my husband and son stay in the area to look at other headset as I waited for them I then decided to give the headphone that were in my cart to my husband because he was the one that were going to purchase them for me I then preceded to wait for him my husbands and son were taking a long time so I decided to find a chair and wait for them to pay for the merchandise as I were sitting in a different area in Best Buy a staff member The (Manger)approach me and starts asking me questions like do she know me or what church do I attend and what I'm here for or what I'm I buying ,I looked at her and says to her "I'm here with my husband to buy some head phone I had to describe to the (manager)why I was sitting there,what I bought ,when I told her that I had gave the head phone to my husband she (manager) walks over to my husband While observer ing them she starting talking to my husband ,after my husband and I finish buying 800 worth of merchandise,I then questioned my husband and asked him what did the manager say to him he my husband said that she the manager says that your wife is here While briefly looking at the headphone that we were buying I told my husband to take those head phone back in the store and get our money back very bad experience read more

Manager can't honor his word, he sets the culture for his team. It's about Leadership and example you set. November 19 Geek Squad sent my laptop to HP... Today I went into the store, I understand being under staffed... My laptop is Lost. Ren tried to help, he couldn't so he got his Manager... I said understand, what are the next steps. the laptop was 106 days old when they need to send to HP. While they sent it out I purchased another unit for 1k to be able to go to school and work... The Manger ask if he could research with HP and call me in 1 Hour... That was 5 hours ago. After 35 minutes on hold, to find the call was routed to another store. Conveniently no way to call direct... they have 2 team members on sales floor, 3 to run out picks ups, 1 at Geek squad and 2 cashiers... NO CUSTOMER Service. They just want the Money at any cost, no follow through or follow up. So suggest you consider, checking out MircoCenter about 15% Less... Same price, best customer service check out Abt. or if you want roll dice, try Best Buy at Harlem/Irving. If service doesn't mean anything, go to Melrose Park. Super Helpful - Great Customer Service. I brought my sons desktop PC to the Geek Squad. He was building himself and ran into a few issues. We made an appointment and we were 10 mins. late. They saw us immediately and helped solve our issues. No Charge! The first 15 mins are complimentary. I would recommend the Geek Squad for any of your computer issues. read more
