I'm going to give a ton of love to this Best Buy. I don't get the low ratings. I stayed at the Courtyard Ottawa East during my entire visit. My view consisted of seeing the Starbucks cafe that I visited every day. I could also see this Best Buy across from the cafe. After picking up a grande chocolate cream cold brew as my birthday perk, I parked in the Best Buy lot and consumed it immediately. It was so good. I then got out of the car and headed inside this store. When you look at this store's exterior, it has that typical pointy blue box look. This store has probably been around for at least ten years. However, when you walk into this store, it's stunningly beautiful. I loved looking at the Marshall speakers and headsets. The display was appealing and you could press buttons to check out the sound coming out of these devices. I saw weird items, such as self-cleaning water bottles that were on sale. There were two models and the cheaper one was going for $89 after a $10 price reduction. Yikes! I hope that they self-clean well for that price. I found a Casemate chain phone wristlet. It looked cool classing up your phone. I kind of like the extra security of having the chain around your wrist. Although my phone case does have a PopSocket, I have dropped my phone a bunch of times because I can be a klutz. This wristlet was my present to me. I browsed some more. I like that associates here don't approach you to ask if you need any help. Leave me be to explore. If I have questions, I will hunt you down. My usual routine is to check out the Google Pixel section. I am happy with my 6a phone, but like looking at the newer 7a and 7 Pro models. The Google Pixel Watch is also nice to look at. I went to pay for my item. I had a nice man helping me with my transaction. I learned that my wristlet was on sale and that $14 was knocked off the regular price. Yay! I paid with a credit card. The transaction was successful. I thanked the man, grabbed my item, and headed to my car. It was straightforward adding this accessory to my phone case. It's stylish and functional. It's awesome! Within moments of entering the store we were met by a young man who blew us away. This fellow deserves a promotion. His name is Gaurang. Friendly, personality plus, knowledgeable, he's the type of person I want to deal with. Gaurang explained the quality differences between the two televisions we were considering. Very disappointed with service. I was in market for large appliances and when ready to order, couldn't find any associate willing to help. Even when I asked for help, was told just to stand by the appliance desk, someone would come. Twenty minutes later, I just walked out very frustrated. Honestly, my experience would have been softened if someone had simply said, I see you, sorry, I'll be there as quickly as I can. Went into the Best Buy on Coventry today to check out an S24 Samsung phone, specifically how the dual SIM works. I asked the sales associate at the mobile phone area and she said the S24 doesnt have a dual SIM. She brought over a a SIM pin and then we looked-and yes it has a dual SIM (as well as eSIM capability). Then when I said I'm looking to buy an unlocked phone and get the $150 gift card (as per the advertised offer on the website) she told me that all the phones are reserved for people taking contracts. And it would be 3-5 days to get a phone. Online they have 4+ in stock, ready for pick up. What a load of baloney-another word beginning with B comes to mind. Be aware of Best Buy employees scamming you for extended protection plan !!! On December 21st 2021 I was purchasing a laptop at 550$. When the sale man ask me if I wanted a warranty on my laptop I told him no. He then told me if I would get the 19,99$ warranty he could wave off 50$ on my lap top so I told him why not. The grand total was 587.58$. This week on January 25th I saw a transaction of 22,59 on my Visa card so I called the Geek Squad as they had made that transaction to see what it was for. I was told that I had purchase a protection plan of 19,99 for the next 5 years that would be charge to my credit card on a monthly base. I told them that I never authorized this transaction. Looking at my receipt it doesn't mention anything about a 5 years 19,99$ monthly plan. It makes no sense to me that someone would get a monthly plan at 19,99$ for the next 5 years for a 600$ laptop. The total on the plan after 5 years would be 1200$ plus tax. If you make the math it doesn't add up, I could buy 2 extra laptop in the next 5 years for that price. I'm currently trying to wave off this scam that a Best Buy employee introduced me but the Geek Squad are giving me a hard time and making me go through rabbit holes to find a solution. read more

It has been awhile since I've shopped in a Best Buy and I was struck by how different the store is now. The store is sleeker and has more product displays. It has tried to adopt that Apple Store-feel, but Best Buy just don't have the same level of customer service. What I really like about the place is the recycling program. I can bring my empty ink cartridges and dead batteries here. I also brought the old dead, printer here--convenient and easier than waiting for an e-waste day. While the cashiers and staff at the customer service desk are friendly and do their jobs efficiently, staff on the floor aren't all that helpful. Over the course of two visits, we came in to buy headphones, a printer, and check out some laptops. At no point did a staff member help us or offer us help. We went in for a specific pair of noise cancelling headphones and had a hard time finding them--turns out they were merchandised wrong and put in the wrong place (also priced wrong). The customer service staff did do a price match for us, which was awesome. We did not have the same kind of service when we bought a printer though--the signage seemed to indicate you got a discount on a box of ink with the purchase of a printer, but we didn't get that. This confusion could have been avoided had someone on the sales floor been available... or you know, had consistent and clear signage and not had printers seemingly piled randomly. It's not bad if you know what you want already, or just want to go in to see/feel a product before buying it online. But, if you require assistance or have product-specific questions be prepared to hunt someone down and wait for help. read more

I normally don't say anything bad about Best Buy because usually the customer service is ok. However, today was not a great day for them. I walked in to buy a phone for a loved one to replace the old one they had. I went to the mobile desk and spoke to a young guy (who looked Middle Eastern or Indian and had green eyes). I can't remember his name exactly but it started with the two letters "As". Anyway, he should not be working at this store. He is not a good salesman. He didn't even want me to buy a phone. He told me to buy a cheap phone that I didn't want because he assumed that I didn't have the money to buy the phone that I had asked him about. He said the one I wanted was too expensive for me. He is racist. He assumed that because of the color of my skin he could tell me what I can or cannot afford. He then told me that I couldn't activate my phone there and would have to go somewhere else. Also, he was very careless with the product. He dropped it on the floor on purpose. How unprofessional! My advice to the manager would be to hire people of different races to work in these departments (they all look the same). Also, give your employees more training on how to deal with customers and not to judge them based on race. My problem is he thought that he should choose what I should buy and it's price point. That should be MY decision. Not his. I tried to reach this business by phone, but unfortunately cannot speak to the manager or an associate directly. This is a huge flaw in your communication system. I had previously purchased an (overpriced) glass protector and (overpriced) phone case from here. When I needed to get a new glass protector because mine was cracked, they shamed me for not adequately protecting my phone. I bought at Whirlpool washer machine from Best Buy in North Bay, Ontario in December 2019. With that, I bought the Geek Squad (GS) Protection for an extended 2-year warranty $322.84. On March 16th, 2021, I contacted GK (call center is in Columbia) because our washing machine was not spinning properly and the clothes, at the end of the cycle were still soaking wet. The first person I spoke GS insisted that I provide him with the serial number even though I supplied him with the THEIR Global Contract ID number THEY supplied me when I PAID FOR THEIR SERVICE. Later that day, I called GS back to provide them with the serial number. The GS agent said that I was providing him with the wrong serial number and refused to put a service call through. I offered to send him a picture of it, but he insisted it was wrong. (see attached picture) AND ENDED THE CALL On March 16, 2021, I contacted the store manager at Best Buy via text to ask for help. He responded on March 18, 2021, and stated "Our associates don't enter serial numbers for warranty? Should just be able to call geek squad with the global contract ID XXXXXXXXX. I do not have a faster way of looking after it. We would just be calling same number". I called back GS again March 17, & 18th to be told the same thing, that I was not giving them the right serial number (see picture) I asked for my call to be escalated, which they said they did, and someone would call me back within 48 hours! - NO CALL BACK AS OF March 30, 2021 Finally, on March 19, 2021, a female from GS, agreed to put a service call through for me and said somebody would contact me within 24-48 hours. On March 23, 2021, I called GS again to say that I have not received a call from anyone regarding service. The agent said "oh ya the people we put the service call through to don't service your area. We will re-assign your case and they will call you within 24-72 hours. He said he would escalate my call date NO CALL BACK On March 26, 2021, I contact GS again who said they could do ang to help me. I questioned why he needs approval if he received the service call. The agent said he did not know. I contacted Best Buy (now that is a real joke even trying to get an agent on the phone, they are good at working their phone tree, so you do not get a live agent). The first guy I spoke to, Danielle said that he would contact Geek Squad himself. We waited on the line together while Danielle explained the situation. When Danielle realized that the agent from GS was not going to be able to help me, he disappeared from the call. GS agent said he would escalate my call and somebody would call me - NO CALL BACK I called back to speak to Danielle AGAIN at Best Buy but another agent (I wrote his name down but cannot find it at the time of writing this) stated he could NOT help me. I asked to speak to his manager and according to the Best Buy agent, the manager refused to speak to me because there was nothing she could do to help. REAL NICE Today is March 30TH I have not heard from anyone, so I contacted GS again I first spoke to Anna & asked to speak to a manager, "sorry we can't do that for you" but I will help you. She put me on hold for over 30 minutes to contact Whirlpool and after 30 minutes, she disconnected me and has not called me back. I called back, this time spoke with Adriana, I demanded to speak to a manager, she refused to let me speak to a manager, put me on hold to contact Whirlpool again, and you guessed I was hung up on. Tried to contact Mat Povse - Best Buy's Senior Vice President, Retail & Geek Squad Services, I might as well bang my head against the wall....... they do not give out his phone number or email address. I ended up with a geek squad membership and they were going to install a new hard drive which I didn't need. They call me two days later and explained that they BROKE my laptop with it being unfixable. They offered a $599 laptop for $399. I said no I do not have the money for anything new and YOU broke my laptop. They said they would call me back and now they will not call me back and telephone customer service/remote geek squad is AWFUL. Been back and forth will them all afternoon. my daughter and I went in to buy headphones 20 minutes before the store closed. there were several employees standing around watching us and no one offered to help us. 5 minutes before close a girl came over and told us to leave the store as they were closing soon. i told her we were looking for headphones and she just walked away. we left with me angry and my daughter in tears. I actually had a good experience buying my 58" samsung tv.. Lyn the sales lady was very helpful. She was available to serve me immediately. She answered all my questions about how to attach my own external speakers. She told me to keep the receipt for the next few months because there was sure to be another sale coming up soon. It is around christmas time now. And she was correct. The price came down another 2 times and i saved another 165 dollars that best buy refunded on my credit card.. I recommend Best Buy on Coventry Road because of their resolution of a problem I had with a car stereo installation. I brought my car in to have an iPod adapter installed. At some point during the installation the display screen on our factory car stereo was scratched. Their initial on-the-spot offer was a $100 gift card; I turned that down in favour of a damage claim. Their second offer was a choice of three replacement units in the $90-100 range. I turned that down as well, giving the reason that the basic factory AM-FM CD deck was $350 from the dealer. Their third offer was the Pioneer unit of my choice, including steering wheel control interface, installation -and- a refund on the price of the iPod adapter. I requested a particular Kenwood unit instead and they agreed. The day the new stereo was to be installed, Best Buy stores all across Canada received word that, effective immediately, they would no longer be installing car audio. They partnered with Future Shop to handle the outstanding installations, including mine. I was set up with an appointment at the Future Shop at 1525 City Park Drive, about five minutes East. I met with a Best Buy manager who gave me the new deck and all the installation components and offered his sincere apologies about the confusion and delay. Future Shop did an excellent job of installing the new unit and configuring the steering wheel controls. They were unable to obtain the proper faceplate for my car - apparently they're not made - so they fabricated some surrounding trim and I'm pleased with that. I used to like this store, but the support through Geek Squad is AWFUL. I bought a TV which I use in my small gym to show classes, etc. It stopped working. It is Insignia, so a Best Buy brand. I bought it 7 months ago, so in the 1 year warranty period. 1. First phone call, they took all the information from the receipt and said to expect service in 1-2 days. 2. Two days later, I haven`t heard anything, so I call back -- they say they haven`t put the work order in yet, but it should be ready that day and to expect service in 3-4 days. 3. 3 days later I call back and they say they haven`t done the work order yet, because they were missing some more info from the receipt! Oh, and didn't anyone call me about that yet? I give them the info, and they now say it will be 3-5 days more. 4. I call 2 days later to check on the status, and they still have not created the work order because they were missing info (which was the info I gave them) and they say "oh yeah, we do have all that now" so i should get service in 4-5 more days. I ask to speak to a manager, who promises to fast track my work order. 5. I am livid, but recheck everything on my TV and figure out the HDMI 1 port is now dead, but I can rewire to use HDMI 2 and get the TV going. But I decide I still want to see how long it would take Geek Squad to come and "fix" HDMI 1 (they will probably replace the TV anyway). 6. 8 days later on a Saturday, they leave a confusing message about extended warranty. 7. I call back. They tell me that the regular 1 year warranty is void, because I am using the TV in a business, not my home!!! And I should have bought the commercial extended warranty (which no one ever told me about)! So, all in all, 3 full weeks of total frustration and broken promises and absolutely ZERO service. I had to buy a keyboard the other day. Normally I would go to Best Buy. I went to Staples. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! read more

Very disappointed with Best Buy. We bought a Surface Pro 13 months ago and we can no longer get it to open. The Geek Squad told us it was a hardware problem and since the warranty expired a month ago we had to contact Microsoft directly since these units cannot be repaired in house. When we asked for a Microsoft customer service telephone number we were told that communication had to be done online. I reminded them that our computer was inoperative and the answer was too bad we can't help you. I used to really like Best Buy before they reorganized their store. It was easy to find items before but now, good luck! It seems from my experience that the staff is not properly trained and often don't know their stock or where it is located. When an item that's supposed to be in stock can't be found on the floor, they are told to look in the cabinets up front behind the cash or in the back warehouse, leaving the customer waiting. The other night I wanted an item--there were 8 in stock--but 45 minutes later after a whole lot of running around, I left empty handed. I bought a pair of speakers a few months ago and noticed when I got home that one was in an open box that was sold at full price. I wish they would follow the model of Canadian Tire stores where aisles are numbered and online searches tell you how many items are in stock and in what aisle the item is located. Ok well where do I start. This location is messy. Smells bad and the lack of customer service? Jeeze. It's hard to believe they work on commission. I went here not long ago with a friend and he needed a tablet. We waited around the tablet area I timed it , 20 min. I also counted 24 people who weren't with customers passed us. Then after waitin 20 min a man came waiting. Around tablets and he got helped right away. I couldn't believe it. I'm not gonna go hunt someone down for help when it's their job to come to us. The merchandise was confusingly labelled and it was hard to find the appropriate price tag for what we were looking at, but the real issue came when we asked for help in finding an 8-foot optical cord instead of the 4-foot ones that were displayed under the 8-foot label. Upon approaching the one employee who didn't seem to be with a customer, we got a dismissive "they should be there" coupled with a "I'm helping another customer, so..." without offering any real advice on how to get a human being to talk to us.
