Management is horrible. When on the phone with the assistant manager, she repeatedly asked "So what do you want me to do?" In a rude tone as a response to the company's mistake. If you sit in the lobby long enough, which isn't hard barely anyone is around on some days, you will hear the employees gossiping about others. This includes managers gossiping about their employees. Today we decided to take our dogs to the local day camp/dog boarding. The moment we walked in the door the staff was was extremely rude and unwelcoming. The employee from behind the desk immediately gripped up my boy Brody and proceeded to drag him into the dog day camp area. It appeared looking in that all the dogs were sitting in cages. I tried to calm my boy down, I have never seen or heard him cry, yelp and beg for us not to leave him behind; Brody had been to this local camp a year prior. First of all, we not only were paying for the 4 hours of day camp for both dogs but also $250 for both dogs to get groomed later that day. I just moved down to Voorhees and wanted to find a good hotel that can be very attentive to my dog for the weekend. Pros: The price was very good and your first stay, you will get the first day for free, which is great! They are pretty quick for checking in and checking out the dog. They also have an outside for dogs to go to the bathroom and walk them 3x a day (so they say) I wanted to start off with the good stuff first. Cons: 1. I didn't get any kind of pet stay evaluation like I do at other boarding, I always get either an oral assessment of how my dog was during his stay, or at least a document with written information. Maybe they are too busy or don't have time to complete, but this the first place I didn't receive anything. 2. I know my dog very well where he doesn't usually eat a lot when boarded so I still packed extra zip log bags of food and when I picked him up I got nothing back. I ask the staff where is the food, or did he finish it all? Can't remember what she said but I saw another review that someone had the same experience when it came to food. I guess they just don't give the food and treats back to you but I did give extra, but I hope it was given to my dog. Giving them the benefit of the doubt 3. When I picked him up, he was def sneezing a lot which i Pray it's not kennel cough but it was only that symptom ( I literally just picked him up so if he gets other symptoms I will write another review) otherwise he was sneezing and he was crying and breathing weird...I know my dog so I think he was dehydrated. Continuing of 3...., I was right! As soon as we got home, he ran to his bowl of water and drank a lot! And he ate food immediately after drinking. it was like he didn't drink for awhile and he honestly probably didn't eat because he misses home but I was shocked how quick he ran for water. I had a feeling he was dehydrated! 4) he was also very excited to play lol maybe he missed me so much and I know they offer individual play and i checked off to have him receive cuddle time and extra individual play but I don't know if it really happened...as I stated earlier it would have been nice to receive an assessment of his weekend so I know what could have been done and what couldn't. I did check the website and saw he only gets 10 mins of individual play three times a day...I hope that happens. I recommend if you have a type of dog that can't be with other dogs for the 4 hour group play, maybe this isn't the best place if u want them to have a lot of attention (honestly most places have more expensive options for additional play so this place prices are really good) 5. I called to check in on my dog 3x on a Saturday and no one picked up. I would have left a message but I thought it was unnecessary since I thought I will be receiving some assessment that did not happen Overall: I bet they have great reoccurring customers and their day care may be great and I like they walk the dogs outside, but I will not board my dog here again. I wanted to post a update to tell anyone thinking about using the doggy camp services or grooming that I believe BEST FRIENDS is still the best place to go. Rue still looks forward to going. Covid has been devastating to all NJ businesses. Everyone has been hit so hard. I am so grateful that Dina and Ornella and the crew are still hanging in there because it means so much to me to bring my dog and leave her with people I trust while I work. I am normally never one to leave bad reviews about companies, but after the service I experienced this morning I must share for others to keep their animals protected as well. I have worked with pets for many years of my life and I was absolutely appalled at the way both of my golden retriever pups were treated today. As soon as we walked in the door the front desk ladies didn't speak a word to me. Didn't ask for my dogs names, didn't come over to greet my dogs, it was almost like I was inconveniencing them for the services I booked for both my pups. My one male dog Brody will be 4 years old in May, he has gone many many places and loves people and other dogs, but the minute he stepped inside Best Friends Pet Hotel it was like he was in jail. They take the dogs and throw them into kennels before they allow them to play at camp. Brody was fighting so hard to not go back and the one extremely arrogant employee just kept ripping his neck and dragging him across the floor. Brody jumped up on the glass and just started scratching the glass, whining, staring at me as if he was telling me (help please don't leave me in this hell hole). I banged on the door and said "you will not grip and drag my dog like that ever." She shut the door and I asked for my other dog to be brought out of the kennel. Brody was sitting on my aunt and my lap just whining in pure fear and terror. It took them over 5 minutes to grab my other dog Basil from the kennel and when an employee walked out of the back she said to another employee "where is the dog?" What do you mean where is my dog??? At that point I had it. They were suppose to be groomed after camp, but the way not only my dogs were treated, but myself was absolutely appalling and disgusting. It felt like I was dropping both of my dogs off at the SPCA. Worst service I have ever experienced in my life. I will NEVER EVER EVER be returning back to Best Friends Pet Hotel AGAIN!!!! I hope this helps anyone out before they decide to drop their dogs off to be treated like absolute garbage. I felt so bad for all the other poor dogs just stuck sitting in kennels. WORST PLACE EVER!!!!!! If I could post this review without giving them any stars I would have, but unfortunately you can't post a review without leaving at least one star. As someone who worked here, let me tell you a few things: 1. Your dog probably does not get adequate care if you board them during the summer. (The place is chronically understaffed and has a habit of hiring teens who don't take the job seriously and ghost them. How the managers didn't learn how to discern who to take seriously after working there 8+ years is a mystery to me.) It used to kill me running dogs in and out twice a day, not playing with them, not petting them, begging them just to go potty, knowing that was going to be their only outside time and they were going to be in a small suite possibly by themselves the rest of the day. The animals are treated mechanically, like merchandise and what they do is deceptive and slimy, just like any other big business. 2. They will not always notice if something is wrong with your dog during the busy season (effectively the beginning of June to September) unless they're not eating, drinking, vomiting, or it shows up in their poop and pee. I was sometimes the only one who noticed scabs, limps, watery eyes, dry noses, coughing, and sneezing and frankly it left me really concerned about the well being of the animals who were cared for before me and after I left. 3. They lie about the source of kennel cough. If your dog got sick after visiting, it's almost definitely their fault. I heard things behind the scenes where they admitted at least one dog got it from here but refused to tell the owners that. 4. If your dog is handicapped or allergic to certain foods or chemicals, they are actually in fantastic hands. Allergies and handicaps are taken very seriously and the dogs received special, mindful care I wish all of our furry guests got. 5. If you board them from September - May, they'll get pretty good care. When we had the time we would take the dogs out 3-4 times a day to play and love on them. 6. The grooming is better than the daycare. Groomers worked their asses off to make sure they met their deadlines and leave their guests clean and cute, they hardly ever compromised quality in the busy season, and rarely did I hear of any drama or complaints. In another world I would have trained as a groomer here and probably enjoyed it more. Basically, I would hire a sitter to watch my animals over taking these risks any day. But if that isn't viable for you and it's not the busy season, go ahead. P.S. The managers are transphobic. They pretended to be accepting but literally put no effort into getting my pronouns right and completely misgendered me for months. read more

Absolutely the worst place to leave your dog. Not only does my dog now have an eye infection the last 2 times I left him there they mess with the billing. The manager Diana or Dina is a horrible person. She is mean and not nice to customers. I was over charged both times I was there and she "refuses to talk about it".. they steal your money and hold your dog for collateral. Pay it or lose your best friend. Terrible place. I highly recommend you go down the street to the other dog day care that has a better rating. You leave your dog there they treat you poorly.. staff u never spoke with ever say they told u things and you never saw them in your life.. its a horrible place to leave your pets/loved ones. I will never go back there. I guess new management means terrible service. I was there and someone asked another coworker did u call so in so about their dog. She said no and just laughed. Like it was not important to her. I dont know her name but she had blonde hair and was a little bigger. She don't care about your pets. And they don't either. Don't take them there. I now have to sue them for the eye infection when they have a clearly stated policy that if u tell them something that's wrong within 24hrs they pay for it. It's a lie. Basically told me to go to hell. My dog is now losing his hair on his back since he stayed there 2 weeks ago. They bathed him and now he is losing hair. I have used your facility in Cinnaminson, NJ on a previous vacation for my wife and I and were fairly happy with the facility. My wife and I moved last September so we were booking the facility in Berlin, NJ for another vacation in May of 2022. I booked the facility online on April 5th. For a 9 day visit to your facility. I received a voicemail on my cell phone promptly after the reservation was made by someone from the facility named 'Leah'. She left me a voice mail letting me know that because my dog was a pit-bull mix, he would not be able to attend any 'group play' activities. Which to be quite honest is the reason we booked at this facility, we wanted our dog to enjoy his time away from home as much as he could. He is a good dog, with a proven track record of good behavior. So, 'Leah' informed me on April 5th at 5:59 pm that not only would my dog not be invited to group activity but the 'isolation' time comes at a higher price and therefore I would be paying close to an additional $60 for the privilege of my dog not being allowed in group. Again, the only explanation was because he was a pit-bull mix. Breed discrimination is something I expect from people who are not involved in animal care because of stereotypes. However, there was zero attempt by 'Leah' to reach out to the facility In Cinnaminson, or to ask for us to bring our dog in for a meet and greet, nothing... Today, I found adequate care for my dog for our vacation. So, I cancelled my reservation at the Berlin, NJ location. Explaining that because of their discriminatory policies I would not be bringing my dog there. Lo and behold, I get a call from 'Leah' shortly after the cancellation request and she now tells me, 'your dog is a pit-bull mix so of course he is allowed in group play, I don't know who you spoke to that said he would not be allowed'. So, a complete 180 on a policy that should never have been initiated. But now she wants to act like she is not the one who called me? I returned the voice mail and informed her that she was the one who told me about her discriminatory policy. She said she doesn't remember making that phone call. Well, she is either a liar or grossly incompetent. I will give her the benefit of the doubt and just assume she is grossly incompetent. However, this incompetence has further resolved my decision to never use any Best Friends Pet Hotel for any of our future trips. My wife and I travel alot and now with things getting back to normal have 5 week+ trips scheduled this year and we will not be using your facilities. On top of that, I will be actively using my voice to speak out about your facilities. I have already talked several people out of using your facility in Berlin with my 'pack walk' group because of this discrimination. As animal and pet owners we expect better! read more

UGH. Although I wish no ill will on them personally, I would never in a million years bring my dog to this place. They provide in my opinion something that is scarily synonymous with a dog prison. Dogs are kept day and night, 24 hours a day, limited to a cage where they defecate in their sleeping area, with no access to other dogs or the outside and are given limited social time with kennel attendants. They also do not provide overnight attendants to watch over their cells. Kennels have their place as a dog containment option (I cant really term it as dog "care" because it defies my philosophies of what pet care should consist of) -- and this is just a glorified kennel. Some people don't even know that Overnight House/Pet Sitters and Boarding in a private home are available or even exist, so if you are one of them, do your research. Choose something more personalized... I would be worried sick if my dog stayed here. read more

After boarding my dog at this location for several years, I will never do it again. The day before we were leaving on vacation they called to say that they did not want to take our pet because she had had some health problems the prior year. We had taken care of that by getting her medication and they still didn't want to take her. We are completely appalled that they called THE DAY BEFORE we were leaving on vacation, after we booked this reservation months in advance. I have used this resort over the last 10 years with great experiences but after the last stay we will never go back. It's clear they are not being run the same as before. We dropped off our 6 m old puppy and 9 year old dog to be boarded together. 4 days in we get a call in Disney asking if we dropped off dry dog food. I was shocked and confused because we dropped off a 50 on new bag of dry dog food and watched them put our name on it. After picking them up they both obviously lost weight. We took our puppy to the vet and she lost 4 and our older dog 5lbs. They continued to have diarrhea for over 2 weeks. They said it was stress. However it's clear after the phone call they either were giving my dogs someone else's food or weren't feeding them and it created havoc in their digestive system. Good luck getting through to them while you're on vacation because no one answers the phone and they never call back. Just pray you're dogs are good while you're gone. I never worried when I dropped off my dogs with them before. I will never use them again. read more

Had both of our dogs stay there for 8.5 days while on vacation--dropped them off Friday night. That Monday morning we decided to check the pet cam and didn't see either of our dogs. Tried again in the afternoon, nothing. Same thing for Wednesday. Called to inquire and found out they took them out of Group Play (10-3) and put them into individual play (three 15 min walks) because our dogs got "snappy" with other dogs. Our dogs are social and routinely interact with dogs at dog parks. We were upset that no one called and they said they rather have called if a dog was bit and we would have a vet bill to pay for. Asked to separate the dogs--one in morning group play and the other in afternoon. Oh and they used "it was very busy" as an excuse when they didn't know why someone didn't call us about this. One dog (4yrs old) occasionally has hip problems with excessive play so we asked that if they saw her limping, to please pull her. Instead they decided to keep her in the kennel because they were afraid something would happen...even after we told them she is an active dog. I'm not pleased they ripped us off. The assistant manager offered 20% off. When we go to pick up our dogs, we learned that they offered everyone 20% off due to the holiday. The manager ended up giving us a decent discount on top of the 20% but never was sympathetic. Do not recommend. Stick to "mom and pop" daycares of dog vacay app. read more

I used this facility when the one in Cinnaminsin and East Windsor had no vacancies for large dogs over the Memorial Day weekend. Again my dog Boo came out clean and happy to see me. I liked that I was emailed a photo of him taken over the weekend, but he looked a little stressed (drooling when he normally is not a drooler). When we went to pick up our dog his bed was soaking wet and covered in mud. He was supposed to be groomed and was only washed. They never gave him his allergy meds because they thought they were for anxiety and he didn't seem anxious. We were told he pooped himself in the middle of the night but he NEVER does that unless not walked. We picked him up around 3:30 PM and clearly he wasn't walked prior because he came in the house and peed on the floor, something he has never once done. The staff was chaotic and frenzied when we arrived and could not answer our questions about why his things were covered in dirt or how long he was without a bed. I was asked to review them and told them I was unhappy and no one ever reached out. I called corporate because they would not take me off their mailing list and was told a regional manager would call me but of course never did. I have been going here for years. My, sweet departed, JRT absolutely adored everyone there. My newest sweet boy, Jackson loves it there too. So much so that when we walks in, he has a special "side head" gallop he does to greet all of the counselors and customer service employees. Jackson had his first haircut there yesterday. Not only was he returned to me smelling amazing, his hair soft as silk, his cut was pretty spot on for what I wanted. If you care about your animal and want to place them in a facility does their very best to provide the TLC your animal deserves when you cannot be there, give Best Friends a try. I have utilized Best Friends for 5+ years. Horrible experience on the day of drop off of my dog this year - July 2018 . My dog is on seizure medicine and they no longer accept dogs with these conditions Come to find out the facility is no longer monitored 24 hours a day. (Honestly, the employees are out of the building for 12 hours now so beware customers). I understand you change your practice and you called me 2 weeks prior to let me know fecal testing is now required (probably since fecal matter is sitting all over now since not monitored 24 hours a day.) My dog has not had seizures in years. I was willing to sign off on them not being liable. The manager was rude and not understanding and just tried to get rid of me - called Mt Laurel Animal Hospital and they were shocked they would call when my dog does not go there. I will admit I lost it - leaving for vacation and had everything ready to go. I used some vulgar language but imagine being stuck as you are dropping of on your way. Supposed I had a flight ? I found a place Halo House Animal Resort in Franklinville. Amazing experience, friendly staff 856 694 0980 I highly recommend them. After coming back from vacation and calling corporate (as I would give them a chance to better it) with no response I posted my experience on Facebook page. Best Friends Berlin replied and said I was banned. First and most importantly - how do you ban someone when you won't take their dog ? Secondly what type of business replies to a horrible customer experience and justifies it saying they are banned. Bad bad business practice from every angle. You change your practice you inform the customer. Then have no customer solution and now defend your wrong practice and now play spin doctor pushing it back as the customer was wrong. BTW - Another family member boarded the same week I was supposed to and both their dogs got urinary tract infections. Their vet said caused by stress. I went here because I drove past it everyday and it looks really nice. My dog only went there twice each for 1 day. The 2nd time I went my dog got kennel cough. My dog never went anywhere else just there. I don't know it if it was a fluke chance of my dog getting it. I didn't know how serious it was until the vet told me. The facility is well kept and the associates truly do love animals. Grooming and Daycamp are great but as far as Boarding don't bother wasting your money on any additional activities other than Playgroup because they don't get done in peak season and holidays. We have had three dogs and two cats over the past two decades, and have used Best Friends West Berlin for all of them - both for boarding and most recently, for doggie day care when our active Border Collie needs doggie stimulation (or on rainy days!). They are a lifesaver for us...Our Mugsy goes once a week and to see the love they give him makes me so happy. They kiss him goodbye and get down on his level to give him hugs and get some sloppy kisses and they truly love him - you can't fake that. I've watched online and they are on top of the dogs while in day care. The vetting system to even get into their daycare program satisfies me that they only have dogs who get along with each other. I see many good reviews based on a pretty place in a busy location. So you understand, this place is not manned at night. Should a fire break out, your dog become ill, or some other need occur, your dog will either perish, suffer, or languish alone once the staff leaves in the early evening. So, let me understand this. These people charged me $42 per night to essentially lock my dog in a box and walk away? Couldn't I have done that at home for free, if that's what I wanted for my dog? Never again.
