Chef Shawna was amazing! My girlfriends and I rented out a beach house for my 40th birthday and we wanted to stay in and have a special dinner our first night in town. I looked around for other chefs and Shawna was prompt with her quote and her pricing was very reasonable. We came up with a menu to best meet my needs. Upon arrival, chef Shawna wouldn't let us lift a finger! Her and her awesome assistant mother lugged all of their things to the second floor kitchen. As they prepared, my newly vegan daughter [insert eye roll] called to request a vegan plate last minute (more like last second). I told chef Shawna to not worry about her meal. Next thing I knew, they quietly left to the store to get ingredients to make my daughter a vegan dinner and dessert. Talk about going ABOVE AND BEYOND! The food was exceptional! We had Beef tenderloin crostini, Blue cheese dates wrapped in bacon, Salad with sliced pear, walnuts and feta finished with champagne vinaigrette, panko pesto salmon, Fennel potato gratin, String beans with caramelized shallots and cheesecake with caramel sauce. Chef Shawna was so great! We had her cater a business dinner for 14, and everything was fabulous! Started with veggie ceviche and pears with honey, goat cheese and walnuts. Next, I had the Salmon with pesto and panko crust, green beans, and scalloped potatoes which were all so perfectly cooked and delicious, and our guests all raved about the steaks! A heavenly creme brulée finished the meal. I reached out to Shawna for the personal chef services as my husband and I both work full time, we have an infant, it's COVID time and we wanted some elevated meals that were really convenient. Things were a bit disorganized from the beginning - she had me confused with someone else, I would get a response to my email via text and vice versa, and then someone else was emailing and texting me as well. It was a toss up whether we got one or two sides. But the most frustrating part was that I had to remind her several times of our restrictions and preferences: we would get menus filled with things we didn't eat or something would show up and I'd have to pick out a vegetable I specifically asked not to have. We did get a menu every week, things were delivered on time if not early, Destiny was very nice and responses were quick so that was all appreciated. The food itself was...okay. Some items/meals were good, I was exposed to some new stuff I enjoyed, and the portions were HUGE. While I gave positive feedback as well, when asked for more flavor and spices overall (we got broccoli that was plain and maybe lightly steamed) or told her repeatedly the chicken was tough and overcooked, I got a defensive tone back. The worst was when we got extremely dry, inedible cornbread - I looked at the receipt and there was a PACKET OF CORNBREAD MIX on there! When I told her we would prefer that didn't happen again she asked if I meant the cornbread or using a mix! Should I have to ask that a personal "chef" not use a mix....for anything?? We did think that the price was quite low when we first signed on, but you get what you pay for. And that might be totally fine for some folks, but if what you're offering is home cooking/food assembly, then please advertise as such. We were looking for a true personal chef and premium service. I see that there are a lot of great reviews for catering. We tried it out for several weeks because she told me it took time to get the food profile down. She asked me questions so I continued to give feedback and make requests. But apparently my expectations (that food made by a "chef" be better than my own cooking) were too high and she told me I should continue my search elsewhere. Will do. read more

Chef Shawna catered our wedding buffet for 62 people on May 6th 2017. She went out of her way to make our day special. Food- We had an idea of what we wanted, fancy picnic food, and she really ran with it. Fried Chicken, Tri Tip, Cedar Plank Smoked Salmon and Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms, a mixed greens salad with raspberries and vinegarette, Squash Trio and appetizers that my groom and I missed of course! Every person who ate the salmon asked about it, there's a strong chance it was the best salmon we'd ever had. I don't eat chicken, however getting anyone's attention after dinner was served was almost impossible if they had it, I'm pretty sure I saw grown men fighting over drumsticks and thighs. I cannot overstate the amount of compliments I heard about her fried chicken and smoked salmon. We had 62 people and everyone had enough to eat themselves halfway to a food coma without there being an excess left over. I think that was one of the more impressive things, working out the quantities so well. Service- Shawna communicated with me and answered all my questions leading up to the big day, as well as making some last minute tweaks to the menu to make everything flow better. She showed up on time and dinner was served when we'd asked with no interruptions from her or her (well dressed and mannered) staff. This was a huge help as I had to answer questions and wrangle other people throughout the day who had apparently forgotten our weeks of preparation. I ordered items from VG's bakery for our dessert bar then realized that no one would be able to set it out between the buffet and the time I wanted it open. Shawna stepped in and set up the table beautifully, all I had done was place the boxes and serving bowls/ canisters/ trays in the kitchen! If we lived closer we would absolutely use her services more often, personal chef, small parties, large events, I would even take classes from her if she offered. Since I do not live in the area I spoke to her over the phone & through messages and was able to arrange everything we needed. I hired Chef Shawna to cook for our 31 person, week-long company retreat. From day 1 she was great to work with and responsive in handling my changes and requests. She came up with a detailed menu for each day and then we went through it together to make sure there were options for our gluten free, dairy free, and vegetarian eaters. She was very flexible with accommodating everyone and made sure there were not just options, but good options for each preference. The actual food was great! We are a 100% remote company and our bi-annual retreats are important times for us to connect with each other. She was very easy to work with and very helpful with deciding on what to serve. They were friendly and courteous, and on-time. The food itself was amazing! We chose the Beef Tri Tip, Chicken Marsala, Loaded Mashed Potatoes, and a delicious salad with dark greens, pecans, and champagne vinaigrette dressing.
