I took my beloved 2017 Ram 3500 to Barrett based on reading their reviews. The truck had 830,000…read moremiles on it when they serviced the Aisin Transmission, which is the original and never rebuilt. I noticed when I picked the truck up that the water and fuel light was on and I thought that was a strange coincidence. Over the years this light has come on two or three times after a car wash, and it's an easy fix to clean out the water in the sensor connection. I did that and even replaced the sensor in the rear fuel water separator. The light was still on, even though the fuel looked clean, so I ended up taking it to a shop in Oak Harbor before driving to the Tetons, as that light was bothering me. It turns out the technician at Barrett had inadvertently pinched some wires that ran along the crossmember below the transmission mount when he reattached the cross number. Thus the cause of the water and fuel light. Barrett was extremely honorable and covered the cost of those wire repairs, and the shops diagnostic fee. So the only thing I was out was the cost of a water and fuel sensor and time. At the time of this post, the truck has nearly 832,000 miles as I just did a trip to Teton Valley and back to Washington and the transmission ran beautifully. The service work the technician did was otherwise perfect and this type of mistake could happen to anyone, so I do not fault Barrett and I would gladly use them again and intend to. The fact that they honored this situation without question is an indication of a shop that has integrity.

Mark assured me that they'll take an assessment of the issue and get back to me before doing any work. Later in the day I received a phone call from Mark. He shared with me the red fluid was not tranny fluid, however, the specialized coolant my duramax requires. He went on to describe that all fluid levels were appropriate and the tranny and transfer case were in fine shape. Despite feeling a bit embarrassed about not differentiating the difference between the tranny vs coolant fluids, I was extremely grateful that they did not take advantage of me and, instead, went on to show me where the issued was. Such honesty goes a long way these days. Based upon numerous recommendations from mechanics I trust and respect, and Barrett transmission's honesty (and the time they took to further investigate and show me the issue)., I'll be back with any transmission issues or maintenance needs that I might have. ***BE CAUTIOUS OF THIS PLACE -- RATED F ON BBB***…read more This is the first time I've had an oil change done where I didn't receive any paperwork showing what they did despite me asking for it when I came to collect my keys an hour later. They looked at me as if I was speaking Japanese. Did they top up my fluids? Did they complete the tire rotation? Was ultra premium synthetic oil that I was UPCHARGED for $20 (after already spending $79.99 on a Groupon for synthetic oil) even applied? I gave them my email (wrote it down for them) so they can figure it out and send me a receipt showing what was fully done but I never received it. They saw a sucker (me) paying the extra $20 and took full advantage of me. Also, the inside of my car door was all grimey and greasy as if they just ate lunch and didn't wash their hands, it was pretty gross. Update as of Jan. 2026: I posted this in May 2025 on Google and it's not appearing so I'm reposting on Yelp and will continue try posting on Google to raise attention of their poor ethics taking advantage of people. I also reported them to Groupon. Are these "5 star" reviews even real or bribed? Like I said, be careful with this place. Read the 1 stars.

When I was out of town my check engine light went on and a local shop there did a quick once over…read more There wasn't anything discernible so he turned off the notification but did tell me that if it were to come on again to have it checked out. A few days later it came back on and I stopped at my dealership to see about setting up a diagnostic test to get to the bottom of it. The dealership wouldn't be able to get me in for over a week and estimated that if it was what they thought it was I would be looking at about $1500 to fix it. I definitely don't have that in savings to throw around so I asked friends and family in the area I live if they knew anyone and two people recommended Newton Auto Care. I called them the next morning and Ken was able to get me in on the Saturday which was just a couple of days later. Again, my car ran quite well and nothing discernible from the diagnostic tests but he did reaffirm what the dealership said could be the issue and that it would cost about $1000. Whew, already $500 less which was a relief. I don't have that much socked away but it's easier to meet that than 1500. Ken turned off the notification, sent me on my way and told me to come back if/when it comes on again. Well a week and a half later that lovely check engine light came on again. I stopped in on my way to the WA for work and Ken was able to squeeze me in the next day (Saturday). In the end it was even less than Ken originally quoted and they stand by their work. Funny enough, the check engine light came on again but looks like it's left over sediment from the fuel injector flush that needs to be worked out but when I called to let Ken know he told me to just come on in and they'd check it out. They know a satisfied and happy customer is likely to come back so while the rates may be lower than a dealership one is not compromising on the work ethic. I will definitely be back. It also helps that I can walk home from there if they need to work on my car for a few hours. Thanks to Ken and Geoff for all their hard work, care and trying to help me understand what's up.
