Staff Theft and Broken Promises - Stay at Your Own Risk Do not stay here. Your belongings are not safe, and corporate will not support you if staff members steal from your room. I stayed at the Best Western Athens Inn from April 14 to April 18, 2026, in room 139. While packing to leave on our final morning, I discovered that several valuable items were missing from our room. A member of the housekeeping staff had stolen my high capacity battery / phone charger, my son's phone battery charger, and my noise-canceling headphones. When I immediately informed the hotel manager, Karen Smith, she told me not to worry and promised I would be fully reimbursed. She explained that the housekeeper had only been on the job for two weeks and had abruptly quit mid-day while finishing our room. The manager assured me she was filing a police report and that they would contact me. That contact never happened. When I followed up with the Best Western corporate offices, they completely deflected responsibility. I was told: "Any items left in the hotel rooms are the responsibility of the guest and Best Western is not liable if anything gets stolen." The property will not protect your belongings, and management's promises of reimbursement mean nothing. If you stay at this Best Western, you are doing so at your own risk. read more

I left some of my belongings in one of the rooms when I stayed one night at this establishment I called the next day to retrieve my belongings and was told by staff that nothing was left in Lost and Found even though I'm 100% for sure that I left it. Stopped for one night on the way to Florida. A good location but the first turn in was sharp. Some things were a little dated (like the bathroom door) but everything seemed pretty clean! We got two Queen beds and the bed closest to the door was soft, unlike the other one which was hard. I liked that the shower had two small shelves for items, very handy. A solid 3-3.5/5 stars. We usually stay at Hampton Inns but we couldn't get a room at the last minute. We took a room at Best Western for $80 a night for 4 of us, which is really low priced. We are used to bigger beds and bathrooms and better breakfasts but for the price we paid, and clean a room and Comfortable beds, we felt we got our money's worth. I guess if I was looking to save money while on vacation I would stay at Best Western. We just spoil ourselves with other hotels. read more

This place was a dump. There were holes cut in my wall behind the mirror (really reassuring). The cleaning guy with face tattoos tried to clean my room twice on the same day I checked into it. The first time I told him I was good I didn't need anything. Second time he just walks into my room unannounced while I was in it. CREEPY. Compared to the surrounding hotels this place is junk, it's an external entry hotel and about 50+ years old, the AC units are the old through wall units under the window. Mostly of them are rusted out. The cleaning people would leave their half smoked cigarettes on the AC units while they cleaned the rooms. The front desk said I was lucky to even get a room when I checked in - I had made reservations prior - so I don't know why that comment was necessary. A complete dump. If you have any self respect find somewhere else to stay. read more

DO NOT STAY AT THE BEST WESTERN IN ATHENS AL. ZERO STARS. NO recommendation. I would rather stay in my car before I would stay there. When I checked in I informed them I had a professional trained service dog. I had to sign document concerning my service dog and myself (illegal document);!there would be a $250 possible damage cleaning fee (illegal); they put me on a pet room (not allowed by the ADA); they were rude when I asked to have the room checked and black lighted before I went into the room; told me they could do that according to the ADA. I immediately checked out and went on down the road. According to the ADA . Q: Can I charge a maintenance or cleaning fee for customers who bring service animals into my business? A: No. Neither a deposit nor a surcharge may be imposed on an individual with a disability as a condition to allowing a service animal to accompany the individual with a disability, even if deposits are routinely required for pets. This was selected only for its location and allowance for pets. What wasn't appreciated was the roach. For staff Susan who took my call it may be helpful to not share how things like this do happen from time to time and that this or snakes have been a problem. For manager Josh thank you for comping a discount, but I can't say I would ever pay $107.00 for one night as a guest of a roach in a hotel room. For travelers, keep driving! Stayed here for two nights with two other people. Made the choice based on their "recently rennovated" statement on their website. HA! The exterior and exterior doors were OLD and the stucco had been sloppily repaired in places. Inside, the Insignia TV had a tolerable picture at BEST. The electrical outlets were OLD, and the hairdryer could have been from the 1970's. The tub/shower surround had been recently installed over the OLD tub, and they left the OLD faucet and handles! The new surround was chopped off at the tub and even the caulk job was poor. The shower head was fine unless you tried to adjust its height or aim. On the positive side, the front desk staff was welcoming and friendly. The room seemed clean and the bedding seemed new and clean. The carpeting was MAYBE newer, and the vinyl flooring was recent. The free breakfast was a perfect example of, "You get what you pay for". Good coffee, but that's the only positive I could find. I hadn't stayed at a Best Western in years, and I don't plan on risking one again. read more

Made a reservation for a Friday night stay, all info was exchanged as usual as I have stayed here on several occasions with the most recent being the weekend before. Drove for over 4 hours to arrive and find a very rude girl that stated that my reservation was no longer valid that she had tried to call me several times. This was an outright lie as I had no missed calls for them. She also told me because they did not have a credit card number there was no guarantee on the room reservation. I told her that the guy that took my info stated that he had everything from the previous stay the weekend before. She very rudely told me that they did not have anymore rooms and that there was nothing more she could do for me. This happened on a messy, rainy Friday night after a 4 hour drive and her pissy attitude did not help. Will not stay at this hotel again. read more

Stayed here on business for one night. Room was nice and clean, no bugs, no bed bugs. Decor was decent, nice furniture and not clutered. Room had all the usual amenities, fridge and micro hidden away in a cabinet, coffee maker, iron. Clean bathroom without any mystery stains. Staff was super friendly and even lent me a cell phone charger when I mentioned having forgotten mine. What made this hotel stand out was the power bank attached to one of the nightstands allowing for 2 regular plugs and 2 USB cords to be plugged in and making the loaned phone charger unnecessary. Open/free power plugs were also located on the desk lamp and on at least 2 walls, which is unheard of in hotel rooms and refreshing to see. On the negative, the mattress was a bit thin, hard and uncomfortable and they had the little mini pillows that are half the size of normal ones, which I don't understand. Hot breakfast was served in the morning which included mini egg n cheese omelette (both with peppers and without), both sausage links and patties and hot sausage gravy. Only negative was that the biscuits weren't fresh. A full continental fare as well as do it yourself waffles n pancakes was also available. The availability of power outlets in the room, the friendliness of the staff, the lending of the phone charger and extensive breakfast option turned what would have been a 4 star review into a 5 star review. I highly recommend this hotel and will stay here again myself next time I'm in Athens. read more

Rooms are clean and big BUT the front desk needs attitude adjustment We reserved the room the week before and arrived at 5 and were told our room WAS NOT CLEANED YET!!! Really??? But fortunately a person appeared out from back room and said move them to the back side of hotel!! Which was a very clean double queen on first floor which we had reserved ! After arriving to our hotel after reserving our room several days ago, we were given a smoking room. The room was full of smoke odor. Due to allergies, we cannot sleep in a smoky room. Front desk said no other rooms available, and they would not refund our money. We have been staying at Best Western hotels for years. We will NEVER stay at a Best Western again. We checked in after a 12 hour drive, exhausted. We got two rooms, one for our daughter, one for my husband and me. After repeated tries to get in our room, we returned to the front desk and had our key reprogramed. Again we tried to use it and were startled by a loud thump on the other side of the door. Returning to the front desk the clerk called the room to find it was already occupied; the occupant had been switched out of another room earlier in the day. The manager had forgotten to record this fact. The only remaining room was a "pet" room which has a funky smell. The mirror on the bathroom door has a small handprint on it at the bottom. The bedspread has been thoroughly clawed by someone's pet. While I wouldn't call this the Worst Western, it certainly isn't the best. read more

For $53 + tax is was ok. My husband says we will pay more next time and stay somewhere else. This is an old hotel that has done a relatively good job of keeping up with the times. It is on the low end of the price range. The rooms are clean and the service is pretty good. We stayed in this hotel over a dozen times when our daughter was at the University of Georgia. It is within walking distance to the Sorority and Fraternity houses. Additionally a Varsity Restaurant is right across the street. One must be familiar with Varsity food to eat here. It would seem to be an acquired taste with the food best consumed after drinking a case of beer. read more
