Staff Theft and Broken Promises - Stay at Your Own Risk…read more Do not stay here. Your belongings are not safe, and corporate will not support you if staff members steal from your room. I stayed at the Best Western Athens Inn from April 14 to April 18, 2026, in room 139. While packing to leave on our final morning, I discovered that several valuable items were missing from our room. A member of the housekeeping staff had stolen my high capacity battery / phone charger, my son's phone battery charger, and my noise-canceling headphones. When I immediately informed the hotel manager, Karen Smith, she told me not to worry and promised I would be fully reimbursed. She explained that the housekeeper had only been on the job for two weeks and had abruptly quit mid-day while finishing our room. The manager assured me she was filing a police report and that they would contact me. That contact never happened. When I followed up with the Best Western corporate offices, they completely deflected responsibility. I was told: "Any items left in the hotel rooms are the responsibility of the guest and Best Western is not liable if anything gets stolen." The property will not protect your belongings, and management's promises of reimbursement mean nothing. If you stay at this Best Western, you are doing so at your own risk.

Pros: booking was easy with the Hilton App. Luckily we got a digital key. Parking is convenient and free. Staff very welcoming and nice. The lobby was nicely kept including the gym and business center. Cons: The free premade breakfast seems to be lack quality. The room 216 needs to have some updates to it. Kitchen sink drain needs cleaning and disposal replaced. I don't think the queen size beds are true in size. They seem smaller. I don't carry a tape measure with me. Company computer systems went down so no hard copy keys to rooms. Other guests had to be let in by staff.

We had indeed cancelled a reservation for the previous night but had booked one for the current night. The desk clerk told us she couldn't find it. We showed her the reservation number and she showed us a blank screen. We called Wyndham and they said they would call the desk while we waited on hold. We heard the phone ring but conversation. After a while our call to Wyndham dropped and we asked the clerk if she had gotten a call. She said no, someone had called for a wake up call. We chose travel and continue driving. This motel obviously didn't want business. The clerk was unhelpful and unconcerned. When we checked email later, we found that we had received a notice of cancellation one minute after walking into the motel.

Glad to report there was no bed bugs, which was the only good thing to report. After removing the covers to check, it was clear the sheets were not cleaned in some time due to all the hair on them. And it's easy to spot black pubes on white sheets. And pubes in the bathroom. Ants in the room and spiders. I wasn't expecting 5 star accommodations, but I don't think it's too much to ask for a clean room. Warning to anyone staying here, find some place else. Pay a little extra. Just don't stay here. That is all!

The pool towel rack was empty at 9am, and when we asked the front desk for towels, an hour later they hadn't brought any. Handrail at pool entrance very loose. Someone's going to get hurt on it. Bathrooms need vents & fans. They fog up quickly and stay fogged, plus retain smell. Breakfast buffet decent. Nice sitting areas near the foyer. Starbucks booth on ground floor, which is nice. Inexpensive, but not as nice as the Double Tree in our city. Also cheaper price than the Double Tree in our city. Maybe that's just because Decatur doesn't have as many visitors and tourists, so they can't charge as much and can't afford as much maintenance.
