During the winter season, I got free tickets to partake in a tour exploring the Christmas lights that were set up all around Old Town St. Augustine, it was a beautiful sight, and I took plenty of pictures. However, since I lived all the way down in the Space Coast, it was best to stay at a hotel for the night instead of taking the three-hour drive back, especially since my dad and stepmom didn't want to drive back so late. Thankfully, my dad had a membership that let him get a hotel at Best Western. We stayed at the Historical Inn, which was just north of Old Town St. Augustine. Ultimately, we have to say that there was nothing really special about the hotel itself, but it was comfortable, cozy, and served its purpose for one night with no issues. Ergo, a good and overall average stay. Firstly, I will start with some of the "unique cons" of the Best Western (which I will shorthan to BW for the rest of the review). The parking situation is very unique as there is technically only "one way in" from US1 (North Ponce de Leon Blvd.). You then have to exit out through the Hampton Inn parking lot exits at Perpall St. or San Marco Ave. You can't exit out back to US1 as they are "one way in" for both BW and Hampton Inn. Next, there is no gym, so if you need to put a workout in like I was, you'll need to either find a 24-hour gym such as Planet Fitness. Fortunately for me, there was one about 5 miles away, 16 minute drive time. BW said you could use the gym at Hampton Inn, but when I tried, they said they did not accommodate such an agreement. Now for the pros. The rooms were cozy, had complimentary coffee, and were clean. The beds were comfortable, and the A/C was cold if we used it. In the morning time, there is complimentary breakfast in a dedicated dining area. The breakfast is actually really good with Belgium waffles, cereals, fruits, eggs, bacon, and much more. I actually ate there a couple of times. First time when they opened at 6 a.m. and later at around 10 a.m., when they were about to close. Checkout was smooth and effortless, and the price was not bad at all when you considered how expensive these hotels are now. I miss the days when one night at a Hilton was $99, and that was expensive for most. To be fair, this was during a time when $15 an hour was considered a lot of money, too. Ultimately, my stay with my dad and stepmom at the BW was very good. Nothing out of the ordinary as in extraordinary, but it served its purpose. If I am in St. Augustine again and need a place to stay, I would consider BW again if need be. But if it was me, I would spend a bit more money for a unique stay at one of the historic inns, if you can afford it. read more

We stayed here at the Best Western Historical Inn in St. Augustine for the 4th of july weekend. The initial room they gave us smelled horrible and the bathroom was dirty with hair all over the shower and the toilet had public hair and urine on the rim!!! We immediately went to the front desk and informed them the room was not clean and requested another room. The 2nd room was just so so and later in the evening I noticed there was hair all over the bathroom floor. Really not a good place at all. Breakfast was a disappointment as well. We won't give back to this hotel again. read more

The Best Western Historical Inn in St. Augustine is America's oldest permanent Spanish settlement. The hotel was reasonably priced, close to downtown without being downtown, and the reviews were good. Parking costs are reasonable at $10 a day, but you do have to purchase a parking pass. The hotel staff was professional and very helpful. The Best Western Historical Inn has many amenities, including a pool, hot tub, breakfast, and wifi. The room includes two queen beds, an armchair, a desk with a chair, a TV cabinet that houses the mini-fridge, a microwave, three drawers, a large flat-screen TV, a nightstand between the beds, a/c/heat by the window, a shower with a rain head, and a toilet with flush options. Breakfast at the Best Western Historical Inn was the highlight of my stay, and I started each day with a full belly. The location was great, within walking distance of downtown, the staff was friendly, and our room was adequate. The hotel does offer guest laundry, which was located on the lower level between the two buildings. read more

I booked two rooms for three nights on Hotwire for $95/night and was fortunate to snag such a deal. Clean, updated rooms. Continental breakfast, WiFi, and parking were included. Cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, waffles and pancakes and daily eggs, starch and baccarat/sausage. Steps from the old jail and red train/trolley. Friendly Service. Overall excellent value. They allow pets in the room for a fee. read more

Wife and I were there for two days midweek as we took a little getaway. Room was very clean and had fridge, microwave and coffee setup. Tv had lots of channels including HBO and wifi worked great. Breakfast was more than just muffins as there was the requisite waffles and juice and coffee. The added bonus was that one day the had scrambled eggs and sausage and the next was individual western omelets, bacon and roasted potatoes. Was great that we didn't have to go out to a restaurant. Can walk to the main ticket area for the tours which also houses the old jail, the first stop for the hop on/off trolley tour and the oldest store all of which are worth going to. Can also walk to the Ponce de Leon museum. All in all centrally located and a great place to stay. read more

A very nice place. It wasn't close enough for us in the Historic District, but staff was super friendly and would arrange the shuttle for us to the trolley, as well as listing all the options. The breakfast offered was generous, and the rooms were large and beautifully decorated. I've stayed at the Spanish Quarters and the Bayfront, and by far this one has the nicest and largest rooms. We stayed in the Double Queen room, which had a large bathroom - out of the three Best Westerns, it's the only one with a tub option. They have a pool, and overall it's a nice environment. The most impressive Best Western in that area, but the area is about a mile and a half away from town. Unlike the Bayfront, they do not charge for parking. read more

I can't believe this is a Best Western! I had a less than glowing experience at another St. Augustine-area Best Western, so I was a little skeptical about staying here. However, we had really great wedding block rates here during my wedding weekend last month, so we took a chance. TOTALLY worth it! Best bang for the buck in the historic St. Augustine area. The exterior is just like every other Best Western I've ever been to. Nothing super fancy. But as I entered the lobby, I could immediately tell that this stay had potential to be better than the last. The lobby was PRISTINE and modern (very recently updated). There was bottled water, fresh fruit AND spa water on tap (water infused with fruit) available in the lobby. And the front desk staff was friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. Off to a great start! Upon entering the room, we found a very special welcome gift, congratulating us on our wedding. There was a bag filled with snacks and bottled water. There was another bag with brownie brittle. AND there was a large bottle of sparkling grape juice with two champagne flutes! Super cute... and tasty. The room itself was recently updated and very modern. The bathroom was pristine, with a spacious shower with perfect water pressure. And the beds were clean and inviting. I still can't believe that this is the cheapest hotel we could find near the downtown area. I've stayed at several historic-area hotels, and this was by far the most modern and welcoming. Wow. The price at this place leads you to believe you'll get a bed, shower and that's about it. BUT! They are renovating and the rooms are really nice. The lobby is newly re-done and everyone we had contact with was kind, considerate and wanted to know if there was anything they could do for us. The entire staff was helpful. Even the guys working outside (they're still renovating) said "Hi!" and were cheerful. Customer service like that has mostly gone the way of the Dodo, so when I say "Wow" I mean it. The room was so nice...newly decorated and clean.Yeah, it's not 5 star and super posh, but it is a terrific place to spend 3 days while you check out all St. Augustine has to offer. I booked directly on their website and got an amazing good price, especially when compared to other area hotels. Microwave; mini-fridge; great wi-fi, a ton of cable channels and comfortable furniture...I highly recommend this place. Breakfast is free and it's waffles, eggs, sausage, coffee, juice, toast , bagels...a real good selection. When we come back to St. Augustine, this is the place I will book a room at. read more

The hotel was a little dirty, we noticed some hair in the shower and there was a grease spot on the chair in the room. We checked in and then went to go grab a bite to eat. By the time we returned back to the hotel around 11p, there were zero parking spots left. We had to park in the breezeway at the entrance. The next morning we saw cars parked in all sorts of creative areas. We had a room near the front of the hotel, and it was pretty noisy from the traffic on the main road, so try to grab a room towards the back of the hotel. They did offer free breakfast, but we didn't take advantage of it. The price was good and the staff was very nice. read more

Extremely nice room for the price. I was so pleasantly surprised by how much I really liked this place. The rooms were newly renovated very clean and there was a 50 inch TV with a small refrigerator, and microwave. This property also has an outdoor pool but it was way too cold to go swimming. I have stayed in many Best Western properties, this one by far is one of my favorite properties. The staff is extremely friendly and so helpful. I asked the front desk for recommendations for restaurants around the area and they gave me a small complied list of recommended popular restaurants and a map describing exactly where we were and exactly the distance where everything else was located. At first I was a little disappointed because we were not centrally located in the Historic District. Its about 5 minutes away by car. They do offer a trolley shuttle (which was highly recommend) to take you to the Historic District for a few dollars but we decided to take a gamble and drive there and that was the best decision. We were lucky enough to find parking right away. I can totally see that this place being jammed packed with no parking during their busy season. It was a very cold night and we roamed around the Historic District for a few hours and drove back to the hotel which was perfect. The next morning we had a great hot breakfast and we were back on the road. Really enjoyed staying at this location. read more

She showed us a map with great places to go that we had to go to and shared her personal experience with some. Really nice motel! My husband and I stayed two nights for a weekend getaway and enjoyed our stay here. The beds and rooms were fresh and clean and thats really what I look for when picking a motel. Good location, a bit further from the historic district but as we've been here several times, we didn't mind driving and parking at the parking garage. Next time I'd like to bring our bikes and ride there. Hotel staff was super nice both via phone beforehand and once we arrived. When we came back Saturday night, there were no parking spaces. I stepped inside to ask the desk clerk where to park and he was very friendly and said we could just park next to the wall across from the lobby entrance, no problem. The continental breakfast was about what you expect for exactly that, a "continental breakfast". Prepackaged pastries, bagels, fruit, individual cereal servings, juice, and actually, my favorite, a make-it-yourself waffle maker! That was a plus. The only con I noticed was the water, although that might be just city water and not necessarily the fault of the hotel. I'm not sure it if has softeners it in or what, but its near impossible to rinse soap off with it! It constantly feels like there's more soap on you every time you rinse. We did the best we could and just dried off. No time to worry about soap! :) Overall, would definitely stay here again! read more

A little pricey for a Best Western, but still affordable. The staff was friendly and gave us ideas for what to see in the area. The room was clean and well kept with a mini fridge and microwave. While the Direct TV was a little temperamental, the Wi-Fi worked fine. The the breakfast area is a little small, but I was impressed by the waffles and hot items available for breakfast. First of all: this place is not in any way historical. It's a freakin motel. There are no historically defining features. It is off the busy boulevard and typical of side of the road motels all over the country, albeit, cleaner, except... we opened the bathroom door and the freaking thing was filthy, had to take out our cleaning supplies to wipe everything down. Next we thought we would venture to the hot tub. Ya, there was trash in it, it was broken and disgustingly disgusting. Do not recommend. You can find better places closer to the old city or beaches. read more

No claw foot tubs and frilly curtains here. Also no carpet to share with hundreds of previous bare feet. The motel has been expertly remodeled. The bathroom in particular is beautifully done with a large tiled shower, marble floor, and an interesting and effective peripherally lighted mirror. It reminds me of why bathroom design has advanced. On check in we were given a welcome bag with water and snacks. We've found Best Western franchises to be very reliable and this is no exception. The price here was well below a sister motel in the historic district. read more

So I have been staying here for a out of town job for my boss. My boss pays for my room so I don't really have a choice where I get to stay. So let me start off by saying how GROSS and Dirty this place is!!!!!!! I've had to had my room changed several times. Every room has pubic hair every in the showers and all over the bathrooms. We had old dry blood on the window curtains. The showers have really low water pressure and nasty smell from the water/ the pool was extremely gross I didn't even want to take my kids In it. The jacuzzi has been broken over a month with green water and caution tape around it: the bed sheets don't even get changed. I asked the manager if they use a vacuum or mop to clean the floors in the rooms and he said NO we just use a swiffer . The toilets barley flush. The sinks don't drain. The cable only has about 10 channels and the WiFi signal sucks. There's only about 10 Parkin spots for the whole hotel. Extremely small rooms. The rubber strip under the door doesn't even touch the floor. there's an half inch of space I can see sunlight and hear everything outside. I would never stay here AGAIN!!!! We even had the nice suite here and it was also dirty! I had to wipe all the dust off of everything the first day I stayed in the room. The shower head almost broke off and the shower nob was almost broken. I would not recommend to stay at the POS! read more

This hotel advertises that they cater to "business travelers as well as families on vacation. We make sure your stay at our hotel is one of excitement, relaxation, and in some cases a romantic getaway." Okay. I'll use these categories to break down my stay: Excitement: As we came back from dinner, happy off sangria and tone deaf off 90's sing alongs, we entered the room a bit loud. After some playful settling in, I heard violent banging on the wall and a blood curdling scream from the room next door. This led into a yell: "If you don't shut up I am going to come over there and KILL you!" OK, I understand a "Pipe down" or a knock and then a "Shut up." But...murder? Relaxation: Level 0. Gray hair increase: Two overnight. And in some cases a romantic getaway: Snuggling mandatory based on increased fear of BEING KILLED. As a Best Western, I expected no frills. As a bitch, I also did not expect we'd be staying in a Best Western... But you get what you get and you don't get upset. And, like advertised, we did in fact experience much excitement. Just use quiet voices to avoid disturbing the recently released mental patients potentially sleeping next door. read more

About 1.5 mile walk to town, which seems a little far in the heat, but walkable. The best western spanish quarter is in a better location but more expensive ($146). Think twice before you stay here. Found bed bugs room 220 and 217. We got 2 rooms. Bites all over us. We immediately checked out and put all out luggage in large trash bags. Then took off our clothing and washed in hot, dried in heat. All of us showered in blazing hot water. Really freaked out. After literally waiting outside for five minutes for the desk clerk to get off the phone, he opens the door saying they are fully booked and that it is cheaper and safer to rent from across the bridge. Talking about someone breaking the window with their head. Found it hard to believe that they were all booked once he kept on saying it was cheaper and safer somewhere else. Very impressed with this hotel- I can tell it was completely remodeled. We had a room with two queens and the "little things" impressed me like the remote control cover for each guest (to ensure sanitary conditions), full coffee, tea and hot cocoa bar at the lobby all day and night, soy milk available at the breakfast, no carpets in the bedrooms, multiple electrical sockets for our many chargers- they really thought if it all. Joanna at the front during check in was thoughtful, kind and gave good advice for local venues. It is about .8 mile walk to the center of town where the old fort is- didn't mind it at all. Thought the Old Trolley was a bit of a waste. Did enjoy touring the Old Jail just a couple blocks away. Advice- go online to book your tickets to tour Old Jail- significantly lower online than at the location! Really fabulous stay- thank you! read more

No, it's not on the beach. No, it's not a resort. HOWEVER!! My husband is a strict Marriott high-rise resort kind of guy. I stayed this Best Western in last night with two girlfriends. It has been completely remodeled. The room was beautiful. It had a microwave and a mini refrigerator with a freezer. The staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating and the toiletries?? Awesome! The head engineer of this property even offered to give me his long yellow slicker because it is pouring today. How sweet was that? Oh! I forgot to mention the free breakfast! Sausage, cheese omelettes, yogurt, cereal, muffins, bagels, waffles, no eggs Benedict, but I was well fed and ready for the day. read more

Not the best Best Western we've stayed at, but not bad. First thing I always do when I check in is check the cleanliness. Wasn't too bad, although we found a bottle of soda in the mini fridge. That was a little concerning, because if they didn't look there, where else didn't they look? One of the first things you will notice when you pull in, is that there is another hotel in the parking lot of the Best Western. This makes parking very difficult. Apparently the guests of the other hotel were parking in the Best Western's parking lot because their parking spots were too far away, so we had to park behind their building in those parking spots. I didn't care for that too much because I like to keep an eye on my car when I'm traveling. Someone definitely tried to renovate the place, but the employees either did it themselves (my guess) or they hired the worst contractors in the world to do it. No kidding! Whomever painted missed an entire half of a wall (they must not have turned the lights on?). The cover to the air conditioning unit fell off. The wallpaper in the bathroom wasn't glued down at the bottom, so it was rolling up, and no one ever bothered to push the wallpaper into the corners of the rooms, so there are big bubbles. The floor in the bathroom was not even (the tiles were sinking) and the shower liner collects water because it was put on wrong. When I went to use the blow-dryer, it fell off the wall (there was a screw in the unit, but no one ever screwed it into the wall, they just hung it on a plate) Mind you, this was nothing too serious. My big thing when I go to a hotel is the cleanliness, the smell, and the comfort of the bed. It didn't smell, it was just humid, but being by the ocean I guess that can be normal. The bed was clean and comfortable. Not to mention the price was terrific and the employees were nice (they gave great suggestions for dinner). Would I recommend this if your just passing through? Sure! Would I recommend it as a luxurious or even romantic get away for a few nights? No, this is a just a great clean place to pass through. read more

We traveled to St. Augustine for a family wedding from California, LA area. We had booked our reservation back in May of 2018 with hotels.com to find out when we arrived to there the hotel we had originally booked [& rec'd confirmation from hotels.com!] was demolished and left us with no place to stay for the weekend with our grandbaby and family of 4 adults!! Sheri Jonas, the Asst GM @ Best Western Bayfront not only showed us INCREDIBLE PATIENCE & UNDERSTANDING! but was able to accommodate all 4.5 of us [2 rooms!] next to each other for a remarkable price! Sheri remained calm during a crisis for our family and a lobby full of others waiting to get checked in. Sheri made a situation that would have been emotionally altering for the wedding weekend - FANTASTIC! She even took the time to give us recommendations for restaurants and more!
