Cockroaches!!!! We checked in on Saturday June 27. The girl at the desk was very sweet. When we got to our room (215) we walked in to find a cockroach on the bed closest to the door (see photo) we were disgusted, snapped a photo and went to walk immediately back out and there was another dead cockroach right inside our door that we must have stepped on when we walked inside. We went back to the front desk and told the gentleman who was now behind the desk and he immediately refunded our money after asking if we'd like to be moved to another room (we said no!) When we asked if he'd like to see the photo, he replied "no, I believe you" It seemed as if he wasn't surprised at the accusation. read more

If I could rate this place less than one star, I would. Morbidly horrified doesn't even begin to describe our experience. Upon check-in, the front desk associate--clearly untrained in basic customer service and common decency--asked if I had ever been there before. I said "no," and without skipping a beat, she looked me dead in the eye and asked, "Are you sure?" Excuse me? Was I sure I hadn't stayed at your subpar hotel before? Then, as my wife stood right beside me, she smirked and said, "Funny, someone must have the exact name as you." Unbelievable. If the goal was to start our stay with confusion and a hint of public humiliation, mission accomplished. It gets worse. We requested a first-floor room, which reeked of cigarette smoke. When we asked to be moved due to the unbearable stench, the same associate rolled her eyes and scoffed, "Impossible. This is a smoke-free establishment." Instead of addressing the issue like someone who values their job, she basically accused us of making it up and reassigned us to a second-floor room--what felt like a punishment, not a solution. Guess what? That room's A/C was broken. Because of course it was. At this point, I was expecting a hidden camera to pop out and shout, "You've been pranked!" Thankfully, a different staff member was working when we went back down, and they--imagine this--handled it like a professional and moved us with no drama. Bottom line: If you're into gaslighting, rudeness, and the smell of stale smoke while your spouse watches a front desk clerk question your existence, then by all means--book a room. I recently had an incredibly disappointing experience at the Western Inn Hotel in La Plata on the morning of March 15, 2025. While waiting in line at the front desk, I witnessed a manager or assistant manager arguing with a customer in a completely unprofessional manner. Other employees and potential guests, including myself, stood by awkwardly as the situation escalated. When that customer left, I approached the front desk to reserve a room for about 30 days. I was abruptly told that the hotel was fully booked. This contradicted the information I received the day prior (March 14, 2025), when I spoke with a female employee who informed me that only two days within my requested stay were unavailable--but that I could still book around them and possibly extend if cancellations occurred. When I attempted to explain this, the manager/assistant manager became defensive, rude, and visibly frustrated, raising his voice and saying, "Okay, so talk to her if you want!" This was completely uncalled for. I calmly asked him not to take his frustration out on me, only for him to flat-out deny that the employee I spoke with even worked there. Shockingly, as I left, I say him (the disgruntled employee) outside smoking a cigarette and staring at me as I drove away, this further made me very uncomfortable, especially knowing he was dishonest regarding the employee I spoke with the day prior. As a loyal Best Western rewards member, I've stayed at numerous locations and never experienced such horrible customer service from a management-level employee. The way this individual handled both the initial argument with the other guest and my reservation inquiry was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. I strongly recommend that this employee receive urgent training in customer service, de-escalation, and basic hospitality etiquette. If this is the standard of service at this location, Best Western risks driving away loyal customers to competitors. Fortunately, I was able to book with Hilton instead, where I received the level of professionalism and courtesy I expect when traveling. read more

ONLY GET THE SUITE!!!! Not even 5 mins into a regular one bed room, and my wife and I were greeted by a series of roaches. Funny enough, when you turn TV on, a brief message shows indicating something about promised "cleanliness". Several suites can be heard with barking dogs too! Called the front desk regarding the matter, the receptionist was kind enough to upgrade us to a suite. The Suite was well worth it! They offer breakfast between 6am-9am, but my wife and I did not partake in this. I'd be careful eating here judging by the pest problem. I'd give it only one star due to pest, cleanliness and pets barking away in other rooms. The Suite upgrade however, made for another star. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I had an emergency situation and had to make a quick reservation (through Hotels.com), with my cat in tow. At a glance, the Best Western website boasts that they are pet-friendly, even having a picture of a dog as their banner. All over the website. This hotel was on the list. I made the reservation and went on over to one of the most unfriendly attendants I've ever encountered. I asked if I had to pay the pet fee and she said, "Uhhh...we don't allow pets." I told her the website said they do. She gave an exasperated sigh and called her general manager, who said, "Only service animals." I asked her what I'm supposed to do with my cat and she just kind of shrugged. I asked for the number to the corporate office because this is a horrible miscommunication and she said, "I don't know it," so I asked if she could find it. She gave me her GM's card instead. I ended up downloading BringFido (EXCELLENT app) and paying for another room where we could all stay and stayed at the Red Roof in Alexandria (nice experience! And ACTUALLY pet-friendly!) I called Hotels.com to dispute the charge because they could not accommodate me and the lady I spoke to said they would remove the charge. But I just got an email from Hotels.com saying they can't refund me because I was a "No show." Now I'm out $300. I used to love Hotels.com, but this sucks on their part, too. Skip both of these companies and all of this bulls*** and just use BringFido. It's an AWESOME app. And Red Roofs are super pet-friendly. read more

Nice place to stay. The staff are warm and welcoming. From check in (didn't catch the man's name) he gave such a warm smile along with information for the hotel, to Ms. Shenita and Ms. Cassandra who welcomed everyone as if they were family. Ms. Shenita thank you for your hospitality you make me want to come back just so I can keep chatting with you. The rooms are clean, every appliance worked without incident, the hot water in the room was hot and the morning breakfast with coffee hit the spot. Definitely will be returning. read more

Myself and my children were visiting Maryland for their father's funeral on June 16, 2022. Upon arriving, the receptionist named Nikki, wasn't hospitable or polite in any way. I can completely understand having a bad day, but when working in a customer service driven industry, you have to push through the tough days. I had to ask her several times to repeat what she was saying because she spoke so low, as if she didn't want to talk at all. She never cracked a smile or even greeted us with a "hello". The room smelled of vomit and we found two roaches in the room. I was very dissatisfied. To add insult to injury, even though there is a police substation across the street, my car was involved in a hit and run just a few minutes away at the Weis Market. I am not a hotel snob at all and I had a horrific experience here. I'm literally leaving the hotel as I speak. I booked this hotel for my daughter's birthday. We wanted to utilize the pool. Upon arrival we were greeted with a sign that the pool was not operable. Yes, not operable in August. Hotels are only open 3 months in Maryland. OK, we can get over it. Right? Well it gets much worse. Upon arrival to our room we recognized that the door that conjoined our room with another way completely broken. We notified the front desk and they notified us that they were fully booked. So, my daughters and myself had to sleep in a room where the tenants in the next room had full access to our room all night. Try sleeping peacefully with your kids not knowing if you will wake-up to a stranger hovering over you . We awake the next morning and ask the front desk if a room became available with everyone checking out. She notified us that maintenance will come first thing and fix it. I wanted an eta because we had an event planned for my daughter and we were on a time-frame. Maintenance properly came to start working on the door. Early in the process we recognized he didn't have the proper tools to fix the door. So here I am, a room full of ladies in night gowns early in the morning with maintenance struggling to fix a bolt lock. TWO HOURS LATER, I was over it. I call the front desk and ask her to change our room. Maintenance is still working on the door, he doesn't have the proper tools, and we can't even take a shower to get ready for the day. She quickly told me no rooms are available yet, so I told get I'm coming downstairs to speak to her. When I get downstairs, I ask for a manager and surprise surprise.... there is no manager available on a fully booked Saturday. I ask for corporates number and the managers card and told her she needs to move us now or get a room immediately. She managed to get us a key right then. Why didn't she do this prior to me storming downstairs demanding a manager? So we get to our new room which was supposedly just cleaned. We walk into the bathroom to shower and the floor is sticky, debris on the floor, and smells of urine near the toilet. It is painfully obvious the bathroom was not swept or mopped. I go back downstairs to let the front desk know the bathroom linen was just switched out but not properly cleaned because the floor is sticky. She told me that the products they used made the floors sticky. I told her "no way" or other room was not sticky, then told me housekeeping all use different products. Literally lying, there is tissue particles and debris on the floor, housekeeping didn't touch that floor. She gives us the option to have housekeeping come and actually clean the room but I told her we are now on the 4th hour of me complaining and I want to leave. She doesn't care. So I go back to my room and call corporate and tell them how unsafe our night was and the condition our new room. Corporate called the hotel while I was on hold and told me they have to allow the hotel to take care of it while I'm still staying. So I go back downstairs and demand the front desk call the manager on their mobile because I have a list of complaints and I need a refund. I told her that I had to sleep with my daughters with a door that didn't lock and she told me she wouldn't have been concerned about it because why would the next door want to come in? She tried to justify the lack of safety in the hotel as if I should have felt comfortable with a stranger having access to me, my daughter, and personal items. I started to get loud and the front desk offered to upgrade my room to a suite or move me to yet another room. I said I'd take the suite and she happily told me it would take an additional 2 hours to clean it. I demanded she call the manager on their mobile number and she then offered to comp me one night and I'd be free to leave, so I did. The manager was never notified of what happened. Disgusting scary and unclean experience. I will definitely call corporate again! read more

The only problem was the cleanliness of the shower, there was still hair from what looks like someone shaving where the soap would go and rings of dirt where you would put your shampoo bottles. If you're looking to stay in the Maryland La Plata area avoid the Best Western La Plata in at all costs especially if you are handicapped or disabled I am a disabled individual who uses a motorized wheelchair And the staff at this particular hotel was very rude very disrespectful and unwilling to help During my stay I requested an extra blanket and was told to come down and get it myself I explained that I was disabled and the girl behind the counter still said to come down and get it myself Is very rude The rooms are dirty The staff is not friendly at all And apparently they allow anybody to come in off the street and use the washing machines as I attempted to wash a laundry one night they was a gentleman with 5 Trash bags full of laundry obviously this person was not a guest but yet the hotel dusk staff didn't seem to mind I felt very unsafe And upon my return home after making a phone call to public rmissions for Best question The situation is still not taking care of As I was informed I would get a phone call from management from the particular hotel within a week I never received a phone call So I called 3 other times to complain I finally got a phone call Is a quarter of 9:00 in the morning on Sunday Of course I missed it because I was sleeping as it was a Sunday I feel this was done Intentionally so management wouldn't have to speak with me I've stayed in this area many many times in the past And that is Just the attitude of the people that work there Do not stay at this hotel If I could I would give it Negative 5 stars read more

I had a last minute trip to Maryland to visit family. I booked 4 nights with the hotel. The first night we didn't get any sleep due to the room next to us. They were constantly in/out of the room, slamming doors, yelling, cussing, etc. The front desk's response was they leave in the morning. Sunday we were out most the day, left the tag on door for housekeeping. Got back about 4pm and room never touched. Went down to front desk and inquired when they would get to room. She was very short and said they are still working so don't worry about it. I was like okay; we went back out and got back after 7pm. We were exhausted from night before with no sleep, got to room and still untouched. Went back down and front desk was like oh well. I asked for fresh towels, got a stack, get back to room to realize it was only the floor mats. Took them back down and had to wait to get towels. It wasn't until the third day that housekeeping got to our room. I even tipped her saying can she please make sure the following day they at least refresh the towels and take trash. Of course, she said yes. Following day we were gone again most the day and same thing. Nobody touched room and had to go in circles to get at least fresh towels. Last night there it was same thing with noise from next room constantly being loud, doors, etc. Even though this hotel is convenient to my family, I don't think I'd stay here again. read more

I could not work out. The counter told me they close early so then can rent the room next to it. This morning I learned my shower did not work. The shower and the fitness center issue has me rating this hotel a one point oh! The management require formal training for customer service and appreciation, in particular the General Manager (Yagnesh) and assistant manager (Clemencia/Missy). I sought out assistance from customer service who did not assist me either and denied any and all compensation. Furthermore, there is an infestation issue on this property and requires immediate inspection. I have videos of the various insects discovered in the bed, vents and food. I want to provide my highest recommendation that you do not stay at this hotel even if your life depended on it. I had a far better experience at the Holiday Express right besides it. Far better quality room and services located in the Holiday Express and better rewards program. The best western inn la plata doesnt even have a functional gym and need to replace their customer washer and dryer as it is old and leaves a foul odor in your clothing when done washing and drying. They also only have one washing machine and one dryer available for customer use. They do not follow their policy of giving you your bonus points or welcome gift if you are a rewards member despite thus being outlined on the best western website. read more

If I could give a Zero, I would. We used Priceline to book a "3" Star hotel in La Plata while we were in town for business. This is how we came to be staying at the BW. The lady working the evening shift at the desk was clueless upon on check in. She had no idea how to switch us from a double bed, to a single king/queen bed. The hotel has 0 elevators so if you travel with more than one bag, you are in for a treat. As we get ready for bed the first night of our 2 day stay, an army of ants decide to come out of our AC unit, infesting that side of our room. I immediately go to the front desk, remind you at midnight, and ask for assistance. The lady actually hands me a can of Raid Ant Killer and says that should take care of it, also stating no more rooms are available on the first floor. Of all the places I have stayed in my life, nothing even close to this has ever happened. I return to the room, spray the ants, become more irritated over what is transpiring, and head back to the front desk and ask to be moved to whatever room they have available. It's 12:30 now. She finds us a room down the hall, we move our entire room down to 102. The lady at the front desk promises to forward my info to the manager and he would be in touch. I call customer care at 12:40am and leave them a message as well. I receive a call from customer care around 10am the next day, they open a case and say the manager for this hotel will be in touch. Now 2 days later and numerous inquiries to the front desk, I have heard nothing. The lady of the evening shift was even rude enough to say "well they moved you to another room didn't they?" I'm sorry but that's the least you can do for someone in this situation. We will never stay at this nor any other Best Western again. I am completely disgusted and disappointed in how poorly we were treated. Again it blows my mind that I was actually handed a can of Raid! Absolutely the worst hotel experience I've ever had. First of all, they messed up my reservation from 2 nights to 1 night. Which was quite inconvenient since we were in town for a wedding & they were sold out the second night. We decided we could make due and drive home after the wedding. Not ideal, but not impossible. All we needed was a late check out. I've never in my life been rejected a late check out, until this day. They REFUSED to let us check out 2 hours late! We weren't asking for much, just 2 hours! The rude B at the front desk even sent the cleaner to knock on our door 3x (even though we had the DND sign up). Finally, we said, just charge us for a late check out and leave us alone...what did they do? Charge us another night! We left the room at 1:30pm (2.5 hours after check out). I would much prefer sleeping in a cardboard box than that flea infested rat hole of a hotel. Dirty hotel & worse customer service. BEWAREEE!! If I could give it -10 I would. House keeping SUPER DISRESPECTFUL. They don't care that your do not disturb sign is up they will go in your every single day! I'm a nurse staying here for covid work and I'm at my last straw. They even come into the room when my husband and I are here because they think nobody is in the room. I've been here for 3 weeks and they go into my room and go through all my stuff EVERYDAY. It's disgusting. I've talked to the front desk since the first time they came into my room when me and my husband were sleeping and they were talked to. THEY CONTINUED TO DO IT. Front desk told me it was a language barrier so when I saw them I spoke to them myself since I speak Spanish and they were both nervous and apologetic.... and CONTINUED AGAIN. Zero stars. I stayed here for a weekend trip. The hotel was clean and quiet. It's what you expect from other hotels in it's class. Nothing overly fancy but nice. The free continental breakfast is the same as other hotels. Waffles, eggs, sausage, cereal and so on. The only negative to the stay was one of my relatives staying in a different room and ask for a late check out and the front desk said no because they are not busy and the maid staff doesn't want to stay longer to clean the rooms. If it's not busy why not offer a late checkout and clean the room the next day. read more

The walls are paper thin because we could hear the TV blasting from the adjoining room. So, when my daughter saw something very tiny crawling on the bed sheets, we took a closer look. You guessed it...BED BUGS. ROOM 130. We didn't walk, we RAN out. The girl behind the counter said she couldn't get in touch with a manager to refund me. REALLY? At 9PM?
