The request for authorization was not submitted in a timely manner, nor was there aggressive follow-up. Dr. Fernandez did a procedure on my right leg and said I needed the same procedure on the left leg. The office reassured me they would call ahead if insurance did not authorize the procedure. I also work with patients and strive to respect their time. I strive to keep my patients updated as situations progress. Rescheduling for me cannot be done at the last minute. Each time the appointment gets rescheduled about twelve of my patients must be rescheduled. I was called at 3:16 the day before the procedure. I was told authorization from insurance was not approved. Previously I had been assured the procedure had been authorized. All this was over several months since my first assessment. There had been a previous cancelation of the procedure by the office due to not getting the insurance clearance. These examples are not exhaustive, but I wanted to give you an idea of the back-and-forth, which has been very irritating. I can't reschedule work with virtually no notice, so once again I have to take two days off, one for the cancellation, and the next if the procedure gets approved. I suggest patients be kept up to date on the office communication with insurance- I learned more talking to my insurance than I did from the office about the details of the process. Insurance called the office and was back to me within a half hour of my initial call to them. Most of my communication with the office has been initiated by me. The information the office provided to me was inaccurate. It was clear the request for authorization was not put in when they said it was, and follow-up on their part seemed to happen only after I contacted them.

Yes you have a right to charge people nearly 400 dollars because they scheduled with you, had an emergency, and cancelled 3 weeks out. Yes, people seeking health care have the right to see that policy, think Jesus Christ, and avoid your practice because while you DO HAVE THE RIGHT to include that, it is such an appalling thing to see. I have the right to comment on it and others have the right to avoid your practice and go to others with better costumer care and understanding. Everybody is in in their right. It's not illegal to do that. It's just a huge deterrent for many who might otherwise seek healthcare from you. It comes across as untrustworthy. There is so much competition in this field that a red flag like that is enough to send someone looking elsewhere, even if they might want treatment. It's such a red flag on your clinic from a client perspective. Red flags aren't illegal. They are warning signs of things to avoid. If what you were doing was illegal somebody could sue. Instead, sadly I have to walk. There is so much competition. I cannot in good faith go to your practice. You have a treatment I want, but a glaring red flag. My common sense is telling me to keep looking, and as much as I'd rather not I know this field is saturated and sooner or later I'll find a place that doesn't have an obvious practice that most don't find ok. Legal and ok aren't the same thing. Legal means you can't get sued and can collect money whether or not the costumer is pissed. Ok means costumers can say, "That's not ok" and leave your business without spending a dime. EDIT: I want to add that this might be illegal. Doctors take the Hippocratic Oath that states, "First do no harm." It is highly possible' Dr. Leo's policy of charging possibly terminally ill patients $365 dollars to schedule, with absolutely no refund, places terminally ill patients in a position where they must forgo scheduling what they might think is life saving care. If the patient is unable to afford other treatments better suited to save them, having made the "mistake" of thinking Dr. Leo would help. I would say that is a violation of the Hippocratic oath, and while it may be a complicated area, I'm sure some lawyers could present this case and win. There is also emotional damage. If Dr. Leo's "non-normal"- for lack of a better term, non refundable initial fees caused major distress to you, even if it was feeling distraught and helpless, that falls into emotional distress. Emotional distress lawsuits are typically worth 500,000-2 million. You do not need to pay for a lawyer, they fight major cases for free. As someone who got terminally ill in my 20's, I vowed to fight people harming the sick. Whether or not you broke the Hippocratic Oath is unclear. The fact your policies lie in that murky realm highlights a possibility of malpractice, and emotional distress to a terminally ill patient lies in a different realm. Normal policies are not as strict or unforgiving as yours. Choosing to enforce such practices leaves your more vulnerable to lawsuits filed by anyone who may have been harmed by you.

I had Dr. Simeon Obeng as my doctor and I was not impressed with his bedside manner AT ALL. He seemed annoyed and almost irritated like he was just waiting to get off work. Afterwards, they sent me a link to my online medical records and I saw that the doctor made a note stating that I have a history of alcohol abused! So I called the office and the Dr. Obeng said that he had to put that in because there are only a few boxes he can tick... Just to be clear when he asked me about my alcohol history I just said that I don't consume alcohol anymore and when I did it was only on social occasions. I don't know how that made me an ex alcoholic. I find it outrageous to have "history of alcohol abused" on my medical record when it is not true. The reason I'm giving this place 2 star instead of 1 is because the price is reasonable, the office was clean and all of the staff were nice and friendly.

Every medical facility I go to requires payment for parking. This I find quite frustrating as we're already under stress from health challenges to have to worry about finding and paying for heaven knows how long. This facility is huge inside. Inside is conveniently located a pharmacy, an optical center and a spacious waiting lounge. There are various departments in the upper floors. I am here to accompany a friend and there's a reception desk with two attendants who are very friendly and efficient. My friend didn't have to wait long before she was called. The nurse was friendly and helpful as she took my friend in for her visit. From what I have seen here this is an efficient healthcare system and it's clean. Everyone I know who has this insurance is happy with the coverage.

Kristin answered, "Yes, but because I hate having this done as a patient, I want to make sure it is done right as a professional."
