I've been wearing glasses or contacts for over 60 years but only came to BECA after my Dr. retired. I was satisfied with my contacts but they found even better ones! Dr. Clark explained what he was doing and answered my questions in a very easy to understand way and gave me the most thorough eye exam I've ever had! Last week I made an emergency appt. and was in the office being treated by Dr. Clark within 15 minutes! ...and again it was the most thorough eye exam I've ever had ! ...in spite of the fact he was late for the office holiday party because of me! Don't go here!! The staff is rude and unprofessional. I had been trying to get an appointment for about a month. I had left messages and they never called back. When I finally got an appointment they were annoyed about having to take a phone call. When I made the appointment they said nothing about needing a referral from the insurance company. So, when I arrived for an early morning appointment they wouldn't see my son. They made sure to condescendingly point out the small print on the insurance card. Still really good stuff here from Dr. Gilmore. No nonsense and he gets right to the point. Appointments are not terribly difficult to get and for our most recent visit it was around a three week wait due to our needing to be scheduled during a specific time window on a specific day. I suppose one sticking point here for some if you are without insurance could be the prices which are on the high side when put up against possible alternatives. An exam will run you more or less a hundred dollars and the frames and lenses (if you get that part done here) will tack on hundreds more past that. While it's certainly easier to get everything done in house, a frame is a frame and a lens is a lens and if you can get that part done elsewhere for a half the cost or less why wouldn't you? Thankfully there is no pressure from Dr. Gilmore whatsoever if you choose to take your prescription somewhere else which is personally what I recommend. I trust Dr. Gilmore 100% and have personally gone to him myself or with various family members for over twenty years. As long as he's here, we'll keep coming back. read more

Very nice staff, everyone was professional and friendly. Doctor listened to my concerns and questions, addressing and talking through all off them. This is a fantastic optometry office located in the very charming historic downtown Bethlehem. The staff is very knowledgable and friendly and both optometrists are excellent, especially Dr. Ralph Gilmore. He's personal, laid-back, and just a really cool guy. They don't beat around the bush here. Their services are exceptionally professional, efficient and their prices are very reasonable. They won't rip you off either. Bethlehem Eye Care has been a Godsend to myself and my husband. He recently had been seeing "floaters" and was making his regular appointment and mentioned the "floaters"; they said come in immediately at 3:30pm on a Friday. Just called to make an appointment and they told me that Dr. Bowen no longer works there. They said the next appointment I could get is in TWO MONTHS. Receptionist was very rude last time, and extra rude this time. She hung up on me when I said I'll let her know but I might have to go somewhere else due to wanting an earlier appointment. Brought my mom in as a new patient. The place was very clean and the doctor was so nice. Our Overall experience was great. A family friend recommended us and she's been a patient for years, so they came highly recommended. But there was an incident that I've debated calling the office and telling them about and it's just been eating at me. So I figured I would just write a review. Although the entire experience like I said was wonderful, there was a period where we were moved into a area while my mom was dilating. While we were waiting one of the nurses came by and started literally "screaming" at another technician right in front of us Like we weren't even there. It actually scared my mom. The nurse she was yelling at looked embarrassed and mortified. I really think this girl went and cried somewhere. The nurse that was yelling didn't even apologize for the scene that was unfolding in front of us. All I know is the nurses name was "Ange" (didn't get it last name). I'm not going lie I was actually giving her a dirty look after the way she just acted right in the middle of a doctors office, and she just looked back at me and gave a dirty look back! I couldn't believe it! I assumed she was probably some kind of manager to be so bold to do something like that. The scene that unfold did not fit the atmosphere in which we were in. It Was shocking. so if you go there just make sure that the nurses name isn't "Ange" LOL. read more

All of the doctors in this practice, former and current, are extremely knowledgeable, highly skilled, and very thorough in caring for your eyes. If you have complicated issues requiring either further examination or surgery, they will recommended seeing an ophthalmologist. I cannot say enough good things about this practice. Dr Gilmore is extremely thorough. I really felt like he wanted to get it right. After so many eye drs and trouble with the prescription I ended up with, I believe this experience was great. I wasn't very impressed with the frame selection but that doesn't mean you won't find them perfect for you. Dr. Gilmore has been my optometrist for 20 years. He is at the top of his profession and will take the time to answer any questions you may have.
