Complaint about Preferred Living Homes 7140 Clinton Hwy, Powell, TN. Selling us a Modular Franklin "Woodland" home. I do have pictures to back up everything I have to say. When clearing the land , the workman did not listen and was going to put the home in the wrong direction, resulting in new footers being put in and the killing of a very tall beautiful oak tree. The modular home itself, from Nashville, looks fine however everything that could go wrong did. The inside showed poor workmanship. All the can lights had to be replaced, in the electrical panel all the breakers had to be replaced because they were not the correct size.( ie. when I used the microwave, it kept tripping the breaker) When setting up, the work crew did not do their job testing the water at the sinks, resulting in mold and mildew because they all leaked. The company in Nashville did respond and had to replace all cabinets under the three sinks, wall panels, the floor and insulation under the floor. This after I called the Health Department and they explained the illness that can happen with mold and mildew. I in turn explained to the Nashville company how my husband had been very sick for 4 months. The kitchen counter would not line up, the wood beam was painted two different colors, doors not closing properly, shower doors not lined up, and more. These are things that eventually had to be fixed,(the counter still will not line up) but all this took time. It was all on their time and not me the customer. The AC had to be taken care of to work right. The appliances, well, everything inside just seems cheap, the cheapest way and the cheapest things to construct the home with. They left the land "rough" in other words not smooth where you could plant grass or anything. I would research and think twice before any purchase of Preferred Living homes. read more

I filed a complaint with the BBB, 3 times against the same delivery business, in less than a month. The BBB did not do anything and basically stated, "Fed Ex's financial responsibility for a shipment tendered into their custody lies with the shipper, the party who paid for Fed Ex's services. You will need to contact the shipper for restitution. If the company who shipped the item will not cooperate with you, you may file a BBB complaint against them." Why would I want to do this if FedEx is the one who is committing the problem? This idiot, Luke McDowell, closed out another complaint because it was detailed with the listed FedEx's tracking numbers and stated that it was a duplicate, which was not true. So, he wasted my time and I had to submit another complaint with less detail. He ended up closing my last complaint because I rejected FedEx's response. He must be some kind of stupid because all he does is just sit there and click on buttons to close out cases without reading anything. read more

The BBB is a self-serving, outdated, bloated organization that markets accreditation status to businesses and protects them, rather than the consumer. This "non-profit" supposedly impartial organization receives huge amounts of funding and representation from big business. How's this for a quote: "Smart Money magazine ran an exposé of the U.S. Council of Better Business Bureaus in which it details the private organization's "too cozy" relationship with some of the businesses it claims to monitor. According to the article, the 112 U.S. BBBs collected $131 million in dues in 2007, comprising 90 percent of their total revenue [source: Parmar]. Perhaps more surprising is that 90 percent of BBB board members are corporate executives from industries that generate large numbers of BBB complaints [source: Garrett]." Perhaps this is one of the reasons the BBB, Inc. is becoming increasingly irrelevant as a useful forum or service. Like many self-serving non-profits, it has failed to keep up with innovation and grown very insular while lining its own pockets. Look at see how many reviews you'll find there compared to Google or Yelp. Look at all the A+ ratings. Then stop wasting your time with BBB, Inc. It must be tough watching the steady erosion of what was once almost exclusive control of public opinion in the business sector and a diminishing position of respect and authority. I would encourage all businesses to stop supporting BBB, Inc. by refusing to buy their once vaunted accreditation status and recognize it for the not-so-subtle form of extortion that it is. I would also encourage all consumers to use more effective, honest, consumer-based forums for reviews and feedback that are not in bed with the businesses they claim to evaluate. read more

The BBB gave an A plus rating for the Mr. Appliance that serves Knoxville. I hired them and was extremely disappointed in their service. I basically waster over $330.dollars! I contacted BBB of Knoxville and wrote a very negative review. I checked the other reviews and only 1 of the 4 customers wrote a positive review. In addition, the BBB lists 9 complaints against this company. Does that sound like an A plus rating to you? I wonder how much kick back their getting to provide Mr. Appliance with that incredibly false rating. read more
