The entrance is street level with a coat room, bathrooms, and a sitting room. The staircase going upstairs is beautiful. There is also an elevator. The event spaces are similar to a parlor. The tea sandwiches and small desserts were delicious. Tea, coffee, soda and wine were also available. The third floor parlor had plenty of room for 6-7 tables. It was easy to hear the speaker. The venue is impeccably clean.

A single, small elevator--furnished with a small love-seat bench, which seemed slightly unnecessary and space-stealing for the limited number of floors housed in The Acorn Club--brought us to the second floor and its dining room. The Acorn Club's dining room is absolutely beautiful: especially the blue, damask wallpaper and the glittering chandeliers and wall sconces. The table seats and cloth napkins (both shades of dusky rose) were luxurious to the touch and the table settings were impeccable. Food-wise, the appetizer and dessert stole the show. The butternut squash soup was piping hot, creamy, and delicious--very similar to the version my mother makes for holidays. And the chocolate-and-vanilla mousse garnished with milk and white chocolate shavings was perfect (as was the almond lace cookie I may have also sampled). Meanwhile, the main course of (dry) chicken and (overdressed) salad was only so-so. Service-wise, the servers was a little surlier than you might expect in that setting, but for one of my fellow diners a polite and slightly apologetic response for putting her water glass too far to the center of the table seemed to break the ice enough to allow the server to seem less resentful. We left wondering how one becomes a member of this Club. Unfortunately the website still leaves us wondering.

Palizzi Filippo Social club is this pinnacle restaurant serving people who love this cuisine. My daughter-in-law is a member and invited me (from Chicago) to fly here and sample what a true Italian dinner club can create; and create they did. Our host (my daughter-in-iaw) was as gracious as the people working here. Everyone was cordial and polite and couldn't do enough to make this dinner special. We had: * A Caesar salad that was dressed perfectly topped with white anchovies - fantastic * Brasciole - was this Italian dish of thin-cut beef pounded, stuffed, rolled, and braised in tomato sauce - exceptional * Escarole and Beans - is this thick stew with rich Italian flavors - loved it * Pasta with Crab - super red sauce dish which was delicious * Ravioli with ricotta, spinach and egg yolk - a classic * Sausage with fennel, broccoli rabbe, calabrese chili - super good * Lamb Chops - marinated in garlic and parsley - was the star of this show * Fritto Misto with baccala & gianchetti, roasted garlic aioli - could have eaten two of these dishes Palizzi ran like a Swiss Clock! Everything going on here tonight was working on all cylinders: The service, the temperatures of the food, the ambiance were all perfect. This old school restaurant with its old school vibe even had a coin operated cigarette machine in the front of the house, and you can't get more old school than that. Palizzi has a lot of rules, as do most private clubs, like no cellphones and a multitude of other rules, making this restaurant very unique. I have been to several private dinner clubs in my life; in such places as Los Angeles, Providence, RI, San Francisco and Hong Kong just to name a few. Palizzi Filippo Social Club definitely belongs in this heady group listed above. Palizzi Filippo Social Club having been around since 1918 has put an indelible stamp on its presence in this city!

I decided to check this event out and it was fun time! The table mates were personable and everyone was in a good mood and our anticipation of what was to come next was met with slight disappointment at the lack of ambiance provided. Although I was hoping to have some lighting..it was bright and although you had masks...it was hard not to see different images as they approached the table. The good: the food and drinks were satisfying. The bad: long time lags in between courses. It was a fun time because wherever I go..I'm gonna have a 'good time'...but I wish this event rose to the level of delivering on what was advertised!

Dining in the dark?! More like scamming in the BRIGHT lights!…read moreIf you see this advertisement, steer far away from it! Would never do again. Maybe at a different venue but don't do the one in Philly Pyramid Club! Cons: - BRIGHT LIGHTS, not at all how it was advertised! They could have at least dimmed the lights! - says that it starts promptly at 8:30 p.m. it DID NOT even start on-time and we didn't even get an appetizer until 9:45 at the earliest. It's an abbreviated menu for god sakes. How hard is it to have food ready?! They expect you to keep the blindfold on, but we would have fallen asleep waiting for our first plate to arrive... and the extra bright lights make it harsh on your eyes when you do take the blindfold off if you happen to put it on that is. - astronomically Overpriced: 180$ before you even sit down. It doesn't even include a complimentary drink. I could handle if it were fine dining. - Premature-baby-food-sized portions. The plate itself was huge but the portion is probably half the size of your hand, and after pretty much starving you to death and only feeding you liquor, this is unacceptable. With your blindfold on, you almost feel like you're being Punk'd! Had to take it off to see what was on the plate. No second helpings or anything. Flavors were not even robust. Dessert was just as much of a joke! Once we left we had to get a real meal afterward! -ridiculous surcharges, it wasn't enough to charge us $180 to reserve this scam but when you're trying to make the best of the night and get a couple of drinks they slap on an extra $16 forced gratuity and all she had was 1 drink at the table! Tell me how that's fair?! If I weren't so frustrated, I would have fought the charge but we were just trying to get out of there without me making a scene. Pros -Nice view -drinks at the bar were actually good but NOT while seated. -best thing was the appetizer. -Staff were at least pleasant. I guess you better be if you're running a scam. In summary: Save your hard-earned cash and go to a real restaurant and close your eyes, and it's better than this experience. We smiled through the pain but don't let these pictures fool you. -There's a pretty lame Emcee: she would announce random things and whenever the food was on its way and then have people guess what it is, asked if we liked it, and talk about the ingredients. The pinnacle of the night is when the Emcee, asked everyone in the room how the main course was... the whole room, in unison, let out an audible groan of dipleasure, disappointment, & being vastly underwhelmed... it very well may have been all of our stomachs because we were still fåcking hungry! No exaggeration, I was very surprised to see not one person cheer about it which validates My overall feelings of this experience Fever really ought to be ashamed of themselves. This outing felt more like a pyramid scheme but I guess that's why they picked the venue the "Pyramid Club"... I should have read the reviews beforehand.
