I don't know how their rating on Yelp is so low. Other sites have them rated much higher. We had our first visit with BetterVet today and we are so happy with the experience. We have a shy kitty who HATES leaving the house so we decided to try a mobile vet. Dr. Tran and Cameron were wonderful. They were communicative, arrived on time, thorough, and very kind. They took time answering our questions and did not push any labs or treatments that we didn't want. Lab pricing was more expensive than at our traditional vet, but not unreasonable, and they were transparent with the cost of everything. We're so happy to have this option for our kitty, and only wish we had found them sooner! Thank you! read more

We recently adopted a shy cat and thought we'd give them a try. We liked the idea of them coming to us. We signed up online including the monthly subscription and set an appointment. The day of we received a notice that they couldn't come but would call to reschedule. Now several days later and no follow up looks like we're going somewhere else. Horrified with price. 2 small dogs and 2 indoor cats. Wellness visit with waived house call fee with all pets health was total of 1075!!! For an hour and a half of work. Never a mention of price. Pushed flea meds. Yearly shots only. I would have been charged less than 300 between all pets if I would have just taken them all into a vet office. At no time was cost or price mentioned. Only charged on card after they left. Nice vets but know cost before you agree to anything. I will not be using again because I felt very taken advantage of. My precious vet sold company to this Better vet company. Old vet came to my house and neutered both cats and shots and X-ray and it was below 675.00. What just happened???? read more

I had such high hopes for this vet company. I started with a telehealth appointment for my dog. The vet was unable to help at all since we did not have an established relationship, which was frustrating but I could understand it. I made an in-person appointment for 4 days later, with the hopes my dog could get care. I had sent in photos, a description of what we had been doing to treat her ailment and lots of additional information. When the vet arrived, they were very late (outside of my appointment window). Due to their late arrival, I did not have the time for them to do a full exam. The vet let me know that it didn't matter since they don't carry any medication with them and anything would need to be mail ordered and there would not be any way for me to get medication for my pet today. This process took days and my dog is no closer to getting any kind of relief for her allergies. This service has such an opportunity to be a great service, especially for ill or nervous animals. However, due to our experience I would not recoomend it until improvements have been made. read more

I don't understand the low reviews. I wonder if perhaps some of them are left by unreasonable pet owners. Our beloved 15 year old cat, Simba, suffered a sharp mysterious decline after we returned from a road trip. We were devastated because Simba had recently had an absolutely horrible experience at Shelter Island Vet Hospital a few months earlier and they were unsuccessful in getting his blood. So we did not want to subject him to getting in the carrier again since he was so high stress and that experience I believe contributed to his decline. Simba is a sweetheart, but very protective of his family. He is very assertive with strangers and I was worried about how the mobile vets would be with him and how he would react. From the beginning, I had a very good feeling about Dr. Tran and Cameron. After attempting to take blood, Dr.Tran suggested giving him a sedative and they would come back the next day. Meanwhile Cameron was sitting on the floor and had somehow gained Simba's affection. They only charged for Travel! When they left the house we both felt very comfortable entrusting Simba to their care based on how professional, caring, and upfront they were with potential ailments, treatments, and costs. The next day we were able to successfully take his blood. They were very prompt with the results which came back the next day. Without going into all the details- In the next two weeks we had them come back a few times. They provided us with a daily regiment of an appetite stimulant (topical) and showed us how to inject him with fluids subcutaneously. Throughout that time Dr. Tran would often text and ask about how Simba was doing and would offer advice and help along the way (even on days off and after hours!). Where else can you get service like that?? I could tell both him and Cameron really cared for Simba. Every interaction was measured and they both have great bedside manner. The treatment was working and by their 3rd visit Dr. Tran had Simba in his arms. With a mobile vet one should expect it to be more expensive (only by $100-300 more on average per service), but for a cat that does not do well at a vet's office, this is the best option available. I would pay more for the good experience alone. We have not had good luck finding good vets that care in the OB/Point Loma/Midway area. There were a couple minor rescheduling conflicts on their end, but since Dr. Tran was so communicative over text it was not a big inconvenience. Unfortunately, Simba passed away yesterday morning due to other unknown complications which came about the previous afternoon. Just a couple hours before Dr. Tran and Cameron were arriving to euthanize him. Over text we decided of course to continue with them picking him up and handling the cremation services. Cameron came inside this time alone and he was very sympathetic, understanding, and compassionate with what we experienced in Simba's final moments. He carried Simba's lifeless body gently in his arms out to Dr. Tran who had the van prepped to receive him. We are so grateful that Dr. Tran and Cameron were our vets for Simba's last few weeks. They make an excellent team and now I wonder if we should go with BetterVet for our other two cats even though they are more amenable to leaving the house. read more

It's only a one star because they don't have 0 stars. I have written reviews but I feel the need to do another one. Better Vet came to my home and gave my two senior cats pain meds. For that they charged over $500.00. One price at my home and another after they left without telling me. I had to find out when I checked my bank account. It was Dr. Francis and her assistant. I would call it very unethical if not outright theft. I threatened to write a complaint against her license and I didn't do it, but I will do it this time. read more

My old gal just cannot handle getting in the carrier and driving 7 miles to our vet. It was traumatic for her and me! I had BetterVet come to house today and they were awesome! They spent a lot of time reviewing her history, talking about that history and our future glimpse for the next ? years as she is 19-20 years old. Highly recommend. Like many other cats, my Marigold is not a happy camper when carted off in a car to see the vet. I decided to try BetterVet as an alternative to the usual vet visits and was very pleasantly surprised. The Doctor and her nurse assistant were very patient with my nervous kitty and I got to watch the entire checkup and drawing of blood--for a battery of health tests. And best of all, my kitty took it all in stride. If I can be assured of the same vet and nurse, I think we will continue to rely of BetterVet. My kitty deserves the most caring and careful treatment and that is what I think she got. read more

I am honestly surprised at the lack of professionalism of this company. I waited for an hour for someone to join my virtual appointment and not only did no one ever join the appointment, but I received no word of explanation or excuse. It is unacceptable to keep patients waiting for an hour with no explanation. When I finally contacted support, I was told that the vet was in the meeting and didn't see me there. This is a lie because that's not how Zoom works- the meeting was never started by the vet. I will not be using your services as you've broken any trust I may have had with your company. I'd leave zero stars if I could since no services were ever provided. read more

We had the best experience with BetterVet in the worst of times, having to arrange euthanasia for our elderly dog. Online booking, texts, and email communications were highly convenient as phone calls can be difficult when emotional. We were well informed during each step of the process. Taking my 10 year old mutt to the vet has always been an anxiety-inducing event, both for my dog and myself. Previously she had to be drugged, muzzled, and restrained to give her basic care (at no fault of the veterinarians of course - my girl is just very wary of medical instruments and the scent of other nervous animals). I finally decided to throw more money at the problem and have BetterVet come to my home to administer vaccinations and successfully perform a physical (a previously impossible feat for my dog). I am THRILLED with how kind, professional, and understanding the attending staff were. They carefully read the dossier I provided about my dog's behavior at the vet and bent over backwards to make her feel comfortable and safe - no muzzle or restraints necessary! I would happily pay the added $100 transportation fee again for any medical visits if it means not having to take my girl back to a vet office that strikes fear in her heart and gives me intense anxiety. Do not use BetterVet. it's a scam. Their website extols the virtues of their services, including their Wellness Plan, but you have to really dig to find out pricing. When you make your first appointment they have a checkbox that is already checked that opts you into their Wellness Plan without any indication there is a fee. You have to uncheck the box to opt out. I did not realize that I had "signed up" for the plan until I received an email congratulating me for joining. There was no information on pricing and no information on how to cancel the plan. You only find that out when you attempt to remove it. At that point a box pops up informing you that no matter when you cancel your credit card will be charged for a full year and it will be auto renewed one year from the time you signed up. In order to cancel the auto renewal you have a very limited window of time to write an email to the company to stop it. There is no way to remove your credit card from the site. Customer Service was awful. They told me "you have to read carefully." The vet was useless. My cat had been vomiting after every meal for three weeks and his diagnosis? Cats vomit. By process of elimination I figured out my cat is allergic to chicken. Why the vet didn't suggest that baffles me. Don't waste your money. read more
