Garden Island Cleaners - Washing machines waiting patiently

Garden Island Cleaners is my new local laundromat and I love using this facility! It's convenient,…read morereasonable, clean, open 365 days a year and they offer full service dry cleaning, and wash, dry, fold service. The laundromat is staffed 7 days a week from 8-5:30. I have used this facility several times since moving to town and every time I have seen and chatted with the friendly attendant. The machines are typically in good working order, they run on debit/credit card, there is also an in-house laundromat card system - I don't use that per say. While you wait there is excellent free Wi-Fi, need a snack? The facility is right next to a Cumberland Farms, and a local Chinese take-out (I'll try that soon and let ya know). There is plenty of parking and it's in the heart of Winthrop close to Hannaford, and other conveniences. I am happy having this little gem so close to where I live. It makes laundry day not feel so much like a chore. I would be remiss to add this is also a tanning bed salon for those looking to use that feature. I can't speak to the tanning process or the conditions as I don't use that feature - but it's here as an option as well. Happy laundering!

And then it will come back the following week. I get that this is Maine but come on. And who knows what I'll find in Augusta (10 miles down the road). DO NOT EVEN THINK OF SENDING YOUR DRY CLEANING TO THESE DISREPUTABLE, INCOMPETENT, WOULD-BE DRY…read moreCLEANERS. After a major move, I dropped off a new suit and an overcoat at sister laundry mat/dry cleaners, Bangor Street Laundromat, 56 Western Ave., Augusta, ME. From there, it was then sent to John's Green Cleaners, 355 Main St, Lewiston, ME 04240. A week later, John's returned my black suit and overcoat to Bangor Street Laundromat where I discovered that both items were severely heat-damaged: the suit in the lapel, waist area, and front and back shoulders; the overcoat was a mass of wrinkles caused by seams that had shrink considerably and totally deformed and diminished each garment. Overzealous or inexperienced pressing had permanently damaged both items. Owner Greg at first responded to a phone call and asked to be given opportunity to correct matters. I sent the damaged items back to John's for a second pressing attempt. A week later, the still-damaged items were miserably the same. Phone calls to Greg's cell and the business went unanswered for at least two weeks. Finally, I wrote an email including the below photo links demanding the filing of a damages claim. Eventually an unknown "John's Cleaner" employee responded to my email by text (unprofessional) and included a photo of theirs still showing the obviously-damaged suit jacket on their presser with warpage all around. Within the text, John's took no responsibility for having damaged both items, provided no means of filing a damage claim, and offered a self-serving resolution: that I subject further articles of clothing to their abuse and receive a one-time 30% discount. Apparently, Greg sees small claims court as the preferred means to resolve damages disputes with his clients. Do yourself a favor: stay away from Bangor Street and all of John's Green Cleaner's affiliates throughout Maine.

Washers and dryers were never something I drove to use and to take my lack of laundrymat experience…read morea step further, I've only stepped inside one, once, to drop off and do a pay by the pound program, they do such a fabulous job! I was dating someone in SC who went every Sunday - she'd roll the handle less cart, lift and stuff and it all seemed like a lot of work to me. The only fun for me was playing with the push/pull detergent machine handles. All sturdy and sterile looking, they've got big ones and bigger ones - all front loaders , my Maytag loaded from the top which still seems more logical than the middle - like R2D2 standing next to R2D3, similar but definitely different. I always liked the TIDE NASCAR car (2nd only to the M&Ms car) zip around the tracks in Houston Astros orange, so I dropped 4 quarters in that slot- thinking about the science of hampering. Although the internet here is fast enough, that stale fabric softener oderiferus emination is slight but unpleasant to my nose, so I tend not to stick around and watch my pants really roll. The quarters machine is always working -i hear that's an issue elsewhere, just hold the cup steady and pretend you hit Cherry Cherry Cherry on the one armed bandit as the avalanche of coins go "jingle jangle jingle" as they fall perfectly fitting your Dixie paper cup - if only they had a Missile Command or Robotron machine.. I'm also always consumed by the idea of pouring a excessive amount of detergent into the machine, set the controls to HOT and HIGH and let'er Rip. Fill the Lighthouse with bubbles to the ceiling, flicker the light switch (put the needle on the record) juggle the bubbles and spin within them like a spinny top.

Whaaaaat happened to this place?…read more For the last ten years of living in the neighborhood, this has been the tried and true, best ever laundromat in existence. Elvis lamp, cute dogs, super nice people? Coin machine, places to sit, brightly lit, parking outside? What's not to like?? I had a day-ruiningly bad experience here this morning. Laundry gives me crazy anxiety. Don't ask me why. It simply does. It's stressful living in a city and on the 4th floor of a walk up and trying to finagle laundry and quarters and carrying things with spaghetti arms! I digress. Usually Soap Bubble is fabulous in helping my frantic anxiety ass when I can't get the card readers to work, or I need advice on which machine to use for whichever size load I have that day (generally gigantic). Today, the card reader on the washing machine wasn't working - this happens to me quite a bit. I tried two cards, swiping in several ways, and probably 15 times they said declined. I know these cards work- I've used them here on these machines a zillion times! The last time this happened to me, I went up to the counter, and the employee was so kind, per usual. They came over and swiped it with their magic touch, and it worked. They didn't make me feel bad at all. It seemed like a regular thing that happens to everybody! This morning I approached the attendant on duty, who I had not seen before. I let her know that my silly ass couldn't get the card reader to work, and asked for some help. She came over to the machine and WAS SO. BRUTALLY. MEAN. I swiped the card and she said, "You're swiping it wrong. You're swiping it wrong. Why would you swipe it like that? Is that how you swipe it at the grocery store?" Not in a joking way... in a very rude, almost-made-me-cry way. Like, why am I being bullied at the laundromat right now? Anyway, she helped me by letting me pay at the computer desk. All while being the rudest lady. I don't get it. Why work in customer service when you despise human beings? I'm too sensitive, and I'm sure everyone else would brush this off. But before I went my boyfriend did joke, "Careful of that lady, she is... testy. Try to avoid that." So, she has a reputation. Laundry is already a no-fun chore that causes many of us stress. Why add to it and make your customers feel stupid and like a burden? Especially when they're being kind???? Sorry to be lame. Just like, WTF. Now I have even more anxiety around laundry, because I have to worry about being yelled at by the Soap Bubble employee. C'mon guys!!!!
