After a major move, I dropped off a new suit and an overcoat at sister laundry mat/dry cleaners, Bangor Street Laundromat, 56 Western Ave., Augusta, ME. From there, it was then sent to John's Green Cleaners, 355 Main St, Lewiston, ME 04240. A week later, John's returned my black suit and overcoat to Bangor Street Laundromat where I discovered that both items were severely heat-damaged: the suit in the lapel, waist area, and front and back shoulders; the overcoat was a mass of wrinkles caused by seams that had shrink considerably and totally deformed and diminished each garment. Overzealous or inexperienced pressing had permanently damaged both items. Owner Greg at first responded to a phone call and asked to be given opportunity to correct matters. I sent the damaged items back to John's for a second pressing attempt. A week later, the still-damaged items were miserably the same. Phone calls to Greg's cell and the business went unanswered for at least two weeks. Finally, I wrote an email including the below photo links demanding the filing of a damages claim. Eventually an unknown "John's Cleaner" employee responded to my email by text (unprofessional) and included a photo of theirs still showing the obviously-damaged suit jacket on their presser with warpage all around. Within the text, John's took no responsibility for having damaged both items, provided no means of filing a damage claim, and offered a self-serving resolution: that I subject further articles of clothing to their abuse and receive a one-time 30% discount. Apparently, Greg sees small claims court as the preferred means to resolve damages disputes with his clients. Do yourself a favor: stay away from Bangor Street and all of John's Green Cleaner's affiliates throughout Maine.

So, I have checked out a handful of laundromats in the Lewiston/Auburn area and I've decided this is my favorite. (Disclaimer: I don't use the washers, only the dryers.) But, the nice lady who works there is very helpful and she recognized a new face when I walked in, so she gave me the run down of how to use the dryers. You can also leave your clothes for drop off and pick up. All the machines take cards or coins which is so handy. They are all pretty efficient, I've never waited more than 45 minutes for a huge load of clothes to dry. There's a couple folding tables, a handful of carts to roll around your clothes in and a TV playing your typical daytime shows. Most importantly, it's clean. The floors are clean, the machines are clean and even the parking lot is clean. I recommend.

For washing machines, there are several options: 20lbs, 30lbs, 40lbs, 60lbs, and 80lbs. The machines have 9 different modes with various temperatures. Washers and dryers all have card readers, which is nice . It is 24 hours a day, and there is a counter and people who work here, however it is not manned 24 hours. The lady I've interacted with has been very helpful. The first time I came I was trying to figure out how to set up the dryer and she came over and explained it to me. And I've seen her assist many others as well. There are two vending machines, one with snacks and one with drinks. There are two TVs with cable, one in each end of the facility. And the place is stocked with one public bathroom. The place isn't always super clean, especially the floors. Trash bins have been full or near full most of the time when I come here. But they do clean, they just can't keep up with the demands. It does get really busy and quite crowded on weekends, something to keep in mind. I would show up around 0700 or 08 at the latest to avoid the crowd. During the week it's much slower.

There was an older man at the desk. I gave him my slip, and then could hear him shuffling around the back for at least 5 minutes. He said he couldn't find it. My sister and I told him it was my wedding dress. He looked around some more, but he seemed to have no idea what he was doing and no sense of urgency. My sister and I ended up marching into the back to search ourselves. The place was a mess. There was junk and clothes thrown everywhere. We asked if the dress would have been sent out and he said no, but when I asked him where things would be that were pressed he seemed unsure. He then asked, "You need it today, huh?" My heart was racing...I didn't know what to do. Finally, after checking a rack for a third time, I found it, wedged between some much bigger clothes, still in the wrapping I brought it in with. It hadn't been pressed. My sister and I ended up taking the dress, going to Walmart, buying a steamer, and steaming it ourselves...but not until I cried from all the stress.
