Garden Island Cleaners is my new local laundromat and I love using this facility! It's convenient, reasonable, clean, open 365 days a year and they offer full service dry cleaning, and wash, dry, fold service. The laundromat is staffed 7 days a week from 8-5:30. I have used this facility several times since moving to town and every time I have seen and chatted with the friendly attendant. The machines are typically in good working order, they run on debit/credit card, there is also an in-house laundromat card system - I don't use that per say. While you wait there is excellent free Wi-Fi, need a snack? The facility is right next to a Cumberland Farms, and a local Chinese take-out (I'll try that soon and let ya know). There is plenty of parking and it's in the heart of Winthrop close to Hannaford, and other conveniences. I am happy having this little gem so close to where I live. It makes laundry day not feel so much like a chore. I would be remiss to add this is also a tanning bed salon for those looking to use that feature. I can't speak to the tanning process or the conditions as I don't use that feature - but it's here as an option as well. Happy laundering! read more

My review is about the dry cleaning service only. Very polite attendant told me that dry cleaning "goes out on Thursday." Today is Monday. You've got to be kidding me. And then it will come back the following week. I get that this is Maine but come on. And who knows what I'll find in Augusta (10 miles down the road). Washing machines were open and reassuringly clean when we entered it seems to be steady busy but we were able to get our laundry done relatively quickly and well enough. They take debit cards at the machines and seemed to be working well also read more

Love tanning here HOWEVER - for some weird reason the last tan on weekdays is at 4:45pm That's WAY WAY too early. They are open till 9pm at this location I believe. People who work days would patronize this location above other tanning chains if the hours were more in line with the actual business open hours. read more

I paid $93. to have 4 drape panels dry-cleaned (the tags read dry-clean only). I didn't want them to shrink or fade & rarely dry-clean anything. Three of the panels are now over 4 inches too short re-installed by sliding glass doors. I am discouraged; never knew that dry cleaning could shrink items. ​The A/C is nice, but that's about it! You have to check the washers first to pull trash out of them before adding your clothes. The water saver machines there don't even get my clothes clean! I literally have to lint roller all sides of every piece of clothing after washing and drying them. On top of that, no one is allowed to use the bathroom! The attendant locks it up... Even over an hour before she is done her shift! It was only 4pm, and I was told I had to go use the Cumberland Farms bathroom! They're expensive! I typically spend around $30 to do a few loads. As a paying customer, I think I should be able to use the bathroom! I have a pic of 4 lint rolling papers from just one shirt, which I'll attach so you can see how gross it is! You'd think by the 4th roll, it would come out cleaner. This place is terrible, but it's the only place near me. I usually travel an hour away to go do my laundry. Now I remember why... I almost didn't go to Garden Island Cleaners because of the reviewer who had issues with the card. Knowing this, I had the woman working there guide me but I would have asked for help anyway as I was a laundry card newbie. I'm glad I did. The card use wasn't very intuitive. I didn't loose any $ from my card though. Enough on that subject. I like Garden Island Cleaners for its laundry facility. The place has the feel of a professionally run franchise whose proprietors take good care of their business. The woman behind the counter was friendly and helpful. The machines did the job and did it fast. I ended up spending $10 for one medium and one large load of laundry (wash and dry). I didn't use the tanning service. I did see several customers pick up their things from the laundry service (mending, cleaning and folding among others) and all appeared to be happy repeat customers. The waiting area was nice. It was a clean with a lived in feel and had lots of natural light that banished the sad tired feeling that is so often pervasive in your typical laundromat. I'll certainly go again. read more

There is NEVER an attendant here! It took me fifteen minutes to find and attendant to take my clothes to be cleaned and when I came back to pick them up, again - no attendant here. I called the number but no response . read more

Sad to say there is a lot to like about Garden Island as a laundromat, but I have to give them a poor review for one reason: Poor technology for the cards used to buy time on the machines. Garden Island is clean, well laid out and reasonably comfortable. There are plenty of machines and they are well maintained. None of that is of any use if you lose money on your card on almost every visit. The cards use an exposed data chip that is very fragile and I have had to replace mine three times in no more than 10 visits, each time losing money what was on the card.
