I go to Beyond Pilates in Kensington and Del Cerro specifically to see Kristy Joy. Her attention to detail and absolute commitment to teaching "properly" make all the difference for someone (me) who has an athletic background but needs a lot of help with coordination and balance (which is why I'm in class!). She's very hands on, and when she comes over to correct me, I can specifically feel how her small position change makes all the difference in the muscles being worked. My only feedback for Beyond Pilates in general is that the 1.5 classes vary pretty wildly based on who is teaching. I tend to avoid taking them since (as mentioned above) I'm not the greatest, but even the class description is a bit confusing. Some teachers teach them like 1 and some teach them for advanced intermidate. I would appreciate more detail in the description, perhaps based on who is teaching? read more

FYI their studio is now to the left of Windmill Farms, next to the nail salon! It is a small space with no front area so you have to wait for the previous class to be completed before walking in (made that mistake the first time!). It's self check-in on an iPad. Walking in, the reformers are facing each other with a central hallway in the middle, and each reformer had it's own set of equipment. 1 small clean bathroom in the back, and a coatrack where I was able to hang my bag. I took a Reformer 1.5 - Intermediate class taught by Kevin. He was a really impressive instructor and was super knowledgeable. He was hands on with us and even helped me fix my form when needed, which I highly appreciated! He challenged us, and even added in some humor to push us through the hard moments. He really put us to work! The class felt much more personal than other pilates studios. The class is not for beginners, the moves are challenging and moves at a quicker pace. I liked the class but might choose other studios over this one. read more

I saw their deal for new customers, 10 classes for $100 and wanted to give it a try! I've been to a handful of classes so far, but all of them have been fun with awesome instructors. I like how each instructor has a different style, and I'm able to choose my favorites. Right now my favorite is Anastasia because her style matches with how I like to do my workouts :) the place is always very clean and organized, the parking lot also will always have spots available. So far I've had a really great experience here and plan to finish my classes and continue coming to the studio!! read more

Coming here has challenged my perception of Pilates. Kevin was a great instructor and very tuned in to each person's individual needs. What I appreciated is that he offered me more challenging modifications instead of having the whole class be on a uniform draw strength on the reformer. He also offered me heavier weights than what was by the bench so that I felt appropriately challenged. Even though the weights were lighter, the isometric movements and the balancing made this workout hard. I also love how low impact it is and the focus on form. I started taking classes and found some were good and some were not so good. I hurt my knee and had to quit, actually getting a knee replacement. When I contacted Brad he said he would refund my money remaining on my account, it never happened. I contacted him again and he never got back to me. Great studio. I love Zoey's classes as they always challenge me! I actually only go to her classes specifically and follow her to the Santee location when she's teaching there, even though it's a further drive. My friend actually commutes from East Village just to go to her classes. I'm currently pregnant and she always already has modifications ready just for me. This makes me feel completely confident and safe to be able take challenging Pilates classes while I'm pregnant, which most studios/ instructors would not take the time to do. A month or so ago, I would have given them a five star review. However, remember, that they also train Pilates teachers. One of my favorite teachers has been fired. Now, when I book, I choose my classes based on instructors I know, only to have them subbed out less than 24 hours prior. They seem to be giving the new teachers all the classes and removing the seasoned teachers from their schedule. Really disappointing. read more

The instructor Kristy came across as rude and passive aggressive. She asked me in front of the class whether it was my first Pilates class, which it was not. I've taken around 10 classes. While I'm still learning, I expected encouragement, not to be singled out. Instead of motivating me, the experience made me not want to return. She repeatedly said, "Thank you for letting me pick on you," which I never asked for or consented to. This kind of behavior is discouraging, especially for people who are new or working toward fitness goals. This was not an advanced class. It was a 1.5 level, and the teaching style did not feel appropriate for that setting. read more

Fantastic instructors, lots of locations. It's really all about the expertise/experience of the instructor. The good ones give clear step by step commands, and make sure they are understood, if not, they gently correct/clarify. Bianca, Kristy, Marguerite, Jess, and Stephanie are the best. Bianca, in particular was very patient and kind with beginner classes. I've been going there for more than a year-now doing intermediate. Bianca's classes are my favorite. If you can get into one of them (they fill up) you will be pleased with results. If not, try one of the others mentioned. Kristy made me fall in love with Pilates!! Her passion, focus on technique, and detailed, visual explanations of how to align your body have transformed my workouts and made me look forward to every class! Best Pilates franchise in San Diego! I love to come to this location for a lunchtime class and then hit up the windmill farms deli afterwards to grab some sushi or a sandwich. Yadira is the only instructor I have taken here and she is amazing and so challenging! The reformers are the basi brand which means they are bigger and adjust differently than other reformer brands. Ask for a quick tutorial and you'll do great! read more

Came here with a couple of my girlfriends as we have been trying to get back into a consistent workout routine. I've tried a few pilates studios in the past, and probably at around 10-15 classes. However, when I came in for a class, the instructor had such passive aggressive energy towards me. I know how important it is to be open to feedback from the instructor, esp in pilates but there's a line between being doing your job and being straight up rude. She made backhanded comments during the class like "Oh she's new here" and "You poor thing". I've never encountered such negative comments and would've much rather appreciated simple, positive constructive feedback as I'm used to at other studios. I just started Pilates a 2 months ago. I've used a couple of the Beyond Pilates studios and have been pleasantly surprised at how much I like it! The instructors are all great and are also accommodating if you're new or have an injury (I checked off both of those cases). Also, the owner, Brad, has also been helpful and accessible. This was my first time taking a Pilates class, so I signed up for the beginners. Brenda was our instructor and she was amazing. All the exercises were super simple to follow, however they created such a good sweat! She assisted in any type of modifications needed to my body, so that I could do the exercise correctly. The class was smaller because we were there at 6am, but everyone was so enthusiastic and happy to be there. The machines are immediately cleaned after we use them, which makes things even better! Love this studio! I normally go to one of the beyond Pilates studios closer to my house, but every weekend I drive to DelCerro just for Jev's class. It is the best Pilates workout you will ever have. She is extremely knowledgeable about the body and Pilates (she is a physical therapist), so I know I'm getting an amazing workout that won't cause injury. I literally love her class so much. My grief isn't with the del Cerro studio, but rather the Basi Pilates company as a whole. I bought a Groupon package that included 10 classes which the groupon stated I could use at my leisure. The studios were great and the instructors were wonderful. But after a month, Basi decided to implement a completely made up timeline that stipulated that I had to use my classes in 30 days. When I found out, I was upset and I contacted their customer service team. As it turns out, Basi is ran by a completely incompetent customer service staff, or single person, I don't know. But I called and left messages. I emailed. No one got back to me and after a week I gave up. My partner, Kayla, emailed and Brad (some title-less name) emailed her back. Why I couldn't get a hold of a single person for a week is completely unknown. It was never explained. And why he only responded to her, and he Ignored me, completely baffles me. After he graciously decided to extend the window of time we could use the Groupon, he completely ignored my question of why they decided to implement the timeline that wasn't outlined in my already-paid-for-groupon. So now my classes have expired and I had 5 left. I've decided to go to better ran Pilates studios in San Diego. And there are many of them. Again, the Pilates instructors and classes are excellent. I love Brenda. But the company is going to fail if they don't fix their glaring customer service problem. Edit** Since I wrote this review, I found out that brad is the company owner, which is pretty hilarious. Brad - there's a number of Pilates studios under the Basi umbrella. Hire some people to do the things you can't because you're clearly not a customer service professional. And if you personally email customers, and you leave out your title, it's unprofessional. If you left it out because you're the boss, that's your ego and you need to check it. If you choose to not respond to voicemails and emails for days, it doesn't reflect well on the company. Lastly, when I bought the Groupon, we entered into an agreement. I paid money and in exchange I got classes. By changing the terms of the agreement after it was made, you effectively stole from me. I wouldn't have bought a Groupon with 10 classes if I knew you'd make me do them in 30 days. Thanks read more

Bianca is AMAZING! I love going to her classes! I've done Pilates for 8 years off and on now but every class I go to with Bianca she is always challenges my body in new ways, which I love! She is very knowledgeable about the human body and is conscious of people with injuries and helps modify. She teaches me new way to tone and sculpt to help whip me in shape before my wedding. I went from a New Mom completely out of shape and now after working with her I have a body that I can be proud of! I even got some ab definition! The Change is Real! Patricia G.
