Being a vacationer, with limited Spanish, without a personal reference, I checked numerous sites and based on these sites I choose Beyond Salon. Don't do it!!! The absolute worse hair coloring I've ever experienced!! My blond hair needed a small amount of foiling to cover some roots, took 4 hours, cost over $200.00 and the absolute worse thing is that my hair is now a orangie/caramel color, not even close to blond! I'm still trying to decide what to do about this, should I ask that it be re-done (by a different hair stylist) or just leave it? I have been here approximately 1 month and don't leave until the middle of March. I'm sick about this! read more

I went due to good reviews on yelp- what a joke. They were so obviously inconvenienced that I primarily speak English despite being a full time resident of Puerto Rico. The manicurist was clearly put out that she had to give me a gel mani and gel pedi. I skipped the pedi because I felt so uncomfortable. It was unsanitary and the polishes were all gummed up and improperly stored. They take Amex but no tips on credit cards. 2 days later my gel manicure chipped- first time that has happened in 12 years of getting gel manicures. I usually get them in Miami or anywhere else in the state because I am afraid of salons here. Rightfully so. read more

I had bright hair for many years, different reds, purple, blond, pink and then 4 months ago I completely lost it and colored it BLACK. Now that I think about it, it had to be some witch craft cause I would never ever color my hair black. I tried living with it for 4 months - it was a misery! I could not see myself like that. During that time I ended up coloring it for a couple more times thinking maybe I'll get used to it. Than no more. I asked around ( recently moved to PR so no prior experience here ) and quite a few people recommended Beyond Salon so I gave them a call. Right there and then, on the phone, Hector asked me what color I had and what color I al trying to achieve and how many times have I colored it black? So, I knew I am onto something good. He said come by and we will test your hair to see what can be done. Hmmm day just got a bit better. I made appointment ( they are really busy so appointment is a must ). When I got there Ivan sat me down and explained entire process, asked me several questions about my hair routine. He asked me to point out red I would like to achieve so he can decide what color lifting treatment was required to get rid of that horrific black. He then tested two different products and decided which one to use. I ended up changing my mind and instead going completely red I decided to have red highlights and gradually work my way up. It turned out beautifully. I can't believe my hair still feels soft after being treated with 40% peroxide! While being there I learned that one of their employees is one of the three finalists in photo contest sponsored by TIGI for best hair color transformation in 2018! One of three finalists! Looking at the picture of the model submitted l, I'd say he's gonna win. But point is, these are not self proclaimed hair stylists..these are true professionals! Ivan, the owner is teaching classes across United States on hair coloring. Vibe is excellent! For the time spent there I had 4 different person offering me vine, coffee, ice tea, cookies etc. I have already made appointment for next week, I am so getting me Brazilian blowout. I received a beautiful balayage from Ivan!! Every day at work, and I mean EVERY DAY someone has complimented me on my hair! They didn't use bleach and their hair coloring included a toner in there to prevent brassyness. My hair is still extremely soft and healthy as if I never colored my hair!! Everyone in the salon was so pleasant and sweet, I had a great time with Ivan's assistant Gio as well. I only get my hair colored when I'm in Puerto Rico (my colorist is in Arecibo but I was staying in Condado) so I'm elated I found someone to color my hair when I return :) I wish I had a better picture of the back of my head to show. I am from NY here in Puerto Rico frequently and I just got the best cut and color I have gotten in years which includes some of NYC's top salons. For starters the salon is beautiful and the service especially during Covid was incredible, clean and safe. I came in wanting to go much lighter from my black hair and Luis was so helpful and honest. He explained it was a process and took care of my roots and applied highlights and I am absolutely blown away by the color and even more so by the blow out. I'm very picky when it comes to hair salons and not being from the area I was nervous about getting my hair colored. I have to say that the customer service and haircut/color/blow dry we're all phenomenal. Ivan greeted me as soon as I came in. I was taken on time and introduced to Julie my stylist. Hands down THE BEST pedicure I have had in a while. Request was answered promptly for an appointment that I made through Yelp. When you walk in, you are greeted promptly and by name. Ms. Debbie did my pedicure and literally spent an hour on my feet. I wish they gave pedicures like this where I'm from. Anytime I come to Puerto Rico I will make it a point to come here. I couldn't be happier with my experience with Gio and the rest of the staff at Beyond Salon. I can't wait to go back! I have been searching the area for a quality salon and dedicated stylist with no luck. I originally scheduled an appointment with another salon in San Juan but I wasn't impressed with the service over the phone. They only asked for my first name and phone number and upon providing that information, they gave me a date and time (after being placed on hold for several minutes). I didn't even know the name of the stylist who would be working with me. I felt as though I was being slotted into the most convenient slot for the salon, or with the stylist who needed the work. I was totally missing that warm and fuzzy I get when scheduling a hair appointment (which should be a fun and pampering time!). So I opened Yelp to do more research. I decided to call Beyond Salon and immediately spoke with Hector, who was totally helpful and beyond kind! He listened to me and ensured me I'd have a wonderful experience there. I had visited the salon website and was impressed with Gio's biography so I asked for an appointment with him. Hector asked me multiple questions about my hair type, what kind of work I was looking for, and scheduled the appointment. When I arrived at the salon for my appointment Hector greeted me warmly and asked me if I would like a refreshment while I waited (hello wine!). Gio was prompt and sweet as pie from the moment he introduced himself. He took extra time to listen to my past experiences (I have natural curly hair and I've had some atrocious work done with my hair) and made great suggestions in order to achieve the results I was looking for. He was so fun and easy to talk to from the get go, and he was extremely attentive to my comfort and made sure I was enjoying myself. We even found that we're connected to the same small town in Maryland! (such a small world!) Once he finished the color process I was escorted to the sink... where I received the most amazing scalp massage EVER! He even asked me what temperature I prefer the water to be! I felt like I was a part of the process and I had a say in everything he did. After the color and wash he gave me the quickest, most beautiful hair cut I've ever received. He truly is a master at his work and I was beyond impressed with his skills. I learned about his past work and education and how he has always been passionate about hair and how he aspires to be the best at what he does. I would say he is on his way! I was visiting from Miami for a wedding here in Condado and needed the appropriate makeup/ hairstyling expected at a black tie affair. Luckily for me, I got a last minute appointment (booked the day before!) with Rachel. She was sweet, easy to communicate with, attentive to what I wanted, and man did she deliver!! My updo was totally elegant and modern. It kept all evening but didn't look or feel stiff. My makeup was natural with with the right amount of dramatic flare near the eyes. Her brushes were super soft and none of the materials she used gave me any kind of rash (which a miracle with my sensitive skin). My false lashes did end up falling out by the time I walked back 2 my hotel but that was because the wind was blasting me. If you are very picky about using a certain foundation or brand etc the salon allows you to bring your own and the stylist will happily use it. I left feeling pampered and oh so pretty. Most importantly I felt like Rachel enhanced my natural features and brought out the best version of me! I will definitely will be returning. read more

I originally scheduled an appointment just for hair and then the day before decided to do makeup also. Another friend of mine also wanted to get her hair and makeup done and they were able to fit her in at the same time as me. Julie did my hair and makeup and it was exactly what I wanted. I showed her just two photos and recreated them both easily. They also had us in and out of the salon with plenty of time for the wedding! This review really has to come in two parts, one for my stylist July (Julie?), and one for the salon. July was amazing and I love my hair. However, I would NEVER go back to Beyond Salon. I haven't had a good haircut in a couple of years, and I've been haphazardly searching ever since. I'm in San Juan for work, and my split ends were bothering me and I felt like being bold with color since I'm outside of my usual corporate world for a while longer, so I yelped salons with good reviews, walking distance from my hotel. July was great - she could sense my disappointment when I couldn't figure out how to explain the coloring that I wanted, and took the time to google some ideas and figure it out. And when I said "no really, I want it shorter" she cut it shorter. And she also did a great job with my eyebrow wax. However, the first ding against the salon was that my appointment started 45 minutes late. 10 or 15 and whatever, but 45? The second, was that they don't take tips on your credit card (according to the receptionist their accountant told them not to). Sorry not sorry, but I've never seen a business that takes credit cards for some portion of services and not others that isn't doing something shady with their books (cash-tips so that the employees "don't have to" report them for taxes is shady as hell). I wouldn't dine at a restaurant that didn't allow me to tip the wait staff on my credit card, and had I known about the tipping policy, I wouldn't have booked services at Beyond. read more

Just got back from my first visit to Beyond Salon. I have lived in PR for about 5 months and am shy about speaking Spanish so I sent them a Facebook message in English asking about making an appointment. Within hours I got a message back stating that they are a bilingual salon and inviting me to make an appointment, which I did. The day before the appointment they called to confirm. On the day of the appointment, I drove to the salon located above a cupcake shop (!!!!) and parked at a nearby lot. I did not realize they have FREE VALET PARKING right in front(but next time I will be using it...). They took me right away (no waiting-hello!) and I met Ivan. I showed him a couple of Pinterest pictures of a hair color I wanted. It wasn't the "usual" color you see every where but Ivan felt confident he could do as I wanted. Ivan clearly explained the coloring process and off we went. Since my hair had been previously colored (by me at home) the process was going to take a much longer time than anticipated and Ivan gracefully arranged his schedule to accommodate me. I was offered refreshments including wine while my hair was done and felt totally relaxed in the salon atmosphere. One thing i did note while I was there was that the entire staff seemed to get along very well. They were all chatting and helpful to each other and there was no ugly undercurrent that sometimes you feel in a salon between either the owner and the staff or amongst the staff themselves. You could tell that everyone was happy to be working there. Ivan did a great job on my color and cut. Another staff member (whose name I can't remember right now-sorry!!!!) did my blowout. She also did a great job and was exceedingly friendly and nice. All in all I couldn't of been happier with my hair. And I'll happily recommend the salon to other people in the SJ area. read more

I highly recommend this salon if you are in the San Juan area!! I made an appointment with Luis for a refresh on my blonde highlights and a trim. There are many things that set this salon apart from the many others in the area. One of the best features is their awesome customer service! I had a few questions which I sent through the Yelp app, which were answered within minutes. When I arrived for my appointment time, I didn't have to wait at all. I was offered a beverage, including a glass of wine. Luis really took some time before he went to work on my hair. He wanted to know what look I was going for and really listened to what I wanted and didn't want. He even used a new technique that he had recently learned and was excited to get to work. He works fast and was so sweet the whole time. I have a lot of hair so my appointment took awhile for that reason. But the quality of work and attention to customer service made the entire process enjoyable and fun. At one point, there were 4 stylists combing out my hair after the color process. I felt like a princess. When it was all said and done, I'm super happy with the results. He was able to do exactly what I was hoping for. I would not hesitate to make an appointment here, they truly care about their clients and I think they do fantastic work.
