This pink statue named BFF is by the artist known as KAWS will be a permanent fixture at this building's lobby and is viewable from the street thanks to the building's large glass facade.
BFF is around 20 feet tall maybe more and stands out at this building which doesn't have a well know name to go by.. Like many of KAWS's signature "Companion" figures, BFF has crossed-out eyes, gloved hands, and oversized ears and a furry exterior reminiscent of the woolly texture of Sesame Street's Elmo.
KAWS has very similar statues in different colors and poses that are temporary stationed around the city. There is also a limited edition line of similar but smaller figures in hard, soft materials but at art collector prices.
The artist's real name Brian Donnelly, he is an American artist and designer and graduate of SVA. His work includes repeated use of a cast of figurative characters and motifs, some dating back to the beginning of his career in the 1990s, initially painted in 2D and later realized in 3D. read more
