What he did not explain was with the change in insurance he's able to bill a much greater amount and that cost was passed along to the patient, me, even though i was told, at my inquiry, that nothing had changed, for me, given the level of insurance I had. While the office could not reach out with this info prior to my appointment or during the call I made, they were able to call several times to make sure I paid my bill and asking me to do so before I'd seen what insurance actually paid. That's what they cared about, not that their office, including the dentist, gave misinformation. In fact, I was told by office staff that they'd had many complaints and many patients going elsewhere. Although I've not been disappointed with the care I received, I'm saying to beware of the misinformation and deceitfulness about costs. I wish they would've been upfront and honest.

As a Vietnam War veteran, I had read about Patricia Devore's Veterans Smile Program―a nonprofit that provides low-income veterans with free dental care―in the Kane County Connects Newsletter, written by Jacob Zimmerman, Superintendent of the Kane Country Veterans Assistance Commission. That's how I found Dr. Khanna. Along with Patricia Devore and Jacob Zimmerman, Dr. Khanna is another very bright star in our universe. Out of the clear blue sky, he came along and volunteered for Smile to fix my broken tooth. I must say that I have never experienced a better, more genial dentist than Dr. Khanna. He provided me with first-class dental care. In my judgment, Dr. Khanna is a superior dentist and very much more competent and caring than all the rest I have met put together. At 73, I have met quite a few dentists through the years, never having found one that I truly trusted and felt comfortable with. Until now! Dr. Khanna is also very kind and gentle, and incredibly attentive, not to mention incredibly generous, working a full two hours on my tooth with more to come and calling me at home later that day to see if I was OK. Then I visited Smile's Web site and its Facebook page and I learned I was not the only veteran he helped on Veterans Day. I have an open bite, and rather than refer me to an orthodontist or even offer in-office aligners like many dentists do nowadays, they suggested veneers. That experience particularly made me feel like my dental health was not going to be prioritized over squeezing my wallet dry with unnecessary cosmetic dentistry that would have still left me with an uneven bite. I sought out my own orthodontics and both my orthodontist and my current dentist were taken aback at Envision A Smile's recommendation. They are unable to provide any sort of charting or care plan records to myself or my new care team, and were only willing to provide xrays for my new dentist. In addition, I was scheduled with four different dentists during my 2-3 years as a patient there. I was often called the day of an appointment asking me to come at a later time, or to go to their other office location. Lastly, once I decided to no longer continue care there, I was contacted by scheduling at multiple different phone numbers. Today, I was called around 4:45 pm, reinformed them that I would not be continuing care there, and then was called by another number just after 6pm trying to get me to schedule again. Neither of these numbers came up on caller ID as Envision A Smile, and one actually showed up on caller ID as Scam Likely, which at this point feels apt.
