Never have time to help and very expensive. They think their customers don't know they can find better products and service.

First off, this store is one of the only ones open during the pandemia era so you got to give it up to the people working here. Never had been here before, I live in SF Valley and there's a handful closer to me (obviously) but they are CERRADO currently. So what brought me here was a bike I really wanted to get for my wife, 7 speed Kent Belmar Cruiser. Is it a high end bike? No. But it seemed very well made and it was also on sale but challenge was finding a store that was open (hello!) and one that ALSO happened to have in stock. I knew it would be a significant challenge, didn't realize it would be monumental! My quest started by phone stalking every location I could find that appeared to be open per Big5 website. Some of these that are listed as open are actually closed. Cut to the chase I call this location (good 30 min drive with 0 traffic) and GREAT NEWS they said they had one in stock! Had to verify by giving them the SKU # coz this bike comes in 2 models, white is a frame design for ladies, blue is one for gents. Then I asked (speaking with Ivy) if they could physically check they had it and next if they could hold. After I explained my situation not being able to make it there till the following day, they agreed to hold for 24 hrs but as luck would have it, when I finally showed up next day, it was gone. Ok so now I've driven 30+ mins (GPS gave cruddy directions, don't take Santa Fe ever!) and I had done everything seemingly possible to ensure I'm leaving with the white cruiser I'm after. Now it's not here. Why? Well it's possible it was never there or it sold, and either of the scenarios could be blamed on staff, true. But these are strange times we are living in peoples! Seeing that I was distraught and on the verge of practical tears, the staff starts to scour the store to make sure if it's there or not. No dice but then enter the manager from heaven, Isaay. Isaay spent over a half hour calling stores that might have it, ones that are open mind you. Not looking good but he did find one that had it (Studio City) and ironically was very close to where I live. Bad news is this location is closed!! So what Isaay said he could do and WOULD do because he felt bad for me (sincerely), was to have it transferred to his store. The only way that can happen is for an employee to go there (in their own car using their own gas, etc) and arrange a pickup with "closed" location. Ok now I'm like in a state of awe; not only what would need to take place to get this bike (YES my wife is worth it) but more so they were WILLING TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!!! Sounds like my luck's improving but that means I have to go home empty handed and drive BACK down here, not really what I was planning on. This where I'm just blown away by Isaay and his team: they suggested if I'm willing to wait, they would go (right then and there) to pick it up and bring back. Basically they're willing to do an hour drive to Studio City from HP so I don't have to make an extra trip. AMAZING!!!! As this is getting long I'll wind it down.....so what happened next? Well the end justified the means, they brought the one I wanted and while I was there, I got some great finds on some athletic gear. As I was so grateful and it was around lunchtime, I went to get sandwiches from the Bahn Mi Company just down the street for the 3 incredible staff people that helped me and they thoroughly deserved it! Last but not least, I unfortunately don't write Yelp reviews as much as I vow I'm going to say I will but this was my thank you to them and I really hope the district managers will see this to reward the staff in the Huntington Park Big 5 store (everyone there was really fantastic)!! Thank you infinitely Isaay, Ivy and the rest of the HP crew, you guys ROCK everyday and twice on Sundays!! read more

This store needs better management,I go in to purchase ammo I ask if I could get help at the counter lady at register politely tells me some one will be there to help you,after waiting for 15 min I gave up although you could hear the idiots inside laughing and cracking jokes I'm like I'll take my business elsewhere.note to self not stopping here no more. read more

Horrible experience! Big 5 really knows how to pick their management team. I called to place a set of weights on hold and they mentioned they ll put 2 aside for me while I get there. The manager Serafin said I can only take 1. When questioned about the policy he got defensive .they didn't have any signs posted and said it was 1 limit and it was his rules. Do not go to this one in particular. Smaller than most I have seen so they may not have everything your looking for. Worst of all, the customer service. A pale short dude who I think was a manager is not the brightest to say the least. What should have been a simple purchase turned out to that dude just wasting my time. He tried to feed me some B.S. about not being able to complete my purchase , and because I know better I don't argue with stupid and/or crazy. I called ahead and asked them to put a sleeping bag I wanted on hold. After work I went to the store and told them I had an item that was being held and the guy went and got it for me. He came back with the sleeping bag in the picture and I thought I was crazy. I asked them if they had a bag or something better to put it in and at first the cashier told me, "None of our bags will be able to fit it". I insisted and said I needed something to carry it in because how could I carry a beyond ripped plastic cover? The cashier eventually gave me the bag but I definitely will not come back to this Big 5 location. What store has items like this on the floor and sells them to customers? Small, but it has a pretty good selection for the size. I usually go for the rash guards they sometimes have some random sake going on and you can find some good deals. I got a huge good quality yoga ball for $10! I was pretty stoked on that deal! But it's not terrible but it's also not great either. I usually buy from this store but won't be coming back. Bought some boots at another store and I returned them. Who ever cashier 1919668 is rude and horrible customer service. I don't usually return items but I did this time. This lady needs customer Service skills because she acted as if I had a pattern of returning items or I was stealing. Great store awesome variety, but the service was ok :( Came in for an item and was disappointed for the help that i needed. For a second, i thought i was being ingnored because a salesperson saw me looking at him and went straight to the back. Tried looking for another sales associate but found them all surrounded in the front and at the register talking about what they were going to do on there weekend. Finally got the help i needed and when i was going to ask for something else, he was already gone. Went to the front to pay for my item and with no line stood there and waited to be called because they look super busy. One of the woman associates looked at me and addressed me to the register in a tone that shouldnt be given to a customer. read more

This Big 5 is not bad. They have a decent selection of every category. As a swimmer I look for a good swimming section. They have a lot of goggles and a good selection of swimming suits. They carry TYR, speedo, Nike. We have bought other things too, like infamercial stuff. It isn't dirty or messy. read more

Good deals can be had at brick and mortar sporting goods store, even in our e-retailing era. I was in the market for a softball glove and really did not have time to comparison shop. So, if they had a glove that fit, I was most likely going to buy it. I ended up trying quite a few gloves and finally settled on a Nike softball glove, the original price on this glove was $70. Quite pricy I thought. Some gloves seemed to have a neon tag, indicated that they were on sale. So, when I went to the register, I asked the checkout person to price check the glove (in hopes that it would be on sale); the price would be the deciding factor of whether I took the glove or not. It turned out that the glove was on sale, $40. Later online research indicated that this was a really good deal; I could not find the same glove under $60 in any other internet site. My assessment is that Big 5 is a good place to get your sporting goods; however, not everything is clearly priced. And, some items are on sale as advertised in their flyer, but this is not always evident on the items in the store. It is always best to get a price check at the counter to verify whether items are on sale or not. read more

I only live about 5 minutes away from this Big 5 location and had never shopped here. I was coming home from work and needed to get a Dodgers shirt for a game I was attending that night. I was told from a friend that Big 5 sold Dodger tees as well as softball tees that I could buy for the game. I was excited that I was going to be able to make a quick stop here and go about my day and head to Elysian park. With traffic in the afternoon, you take what you can get! So it it was around 3:30 pm on May 25th. I knew what I was getting so when I saw the shirt, I grabbed it and headed to the register. There was no one in line and two male employees were standing in the kiosk/register area. I stood there hoping to be rung up. I was excited about the game so I happily greeted them "Hi!" (yes awkward, I know) but I received no response. If anything, they continued talking about how they only had about 30 minutes left on their shift, and then they BOTH rudely walked away for me. Wow. I felt so bad. I don't want to be those people that say, "I work in customer service so I know how the customer should be treated", but I do! So I thought that they could have at least acknowledged me with a smile, a nod, or they could have just said "we'll be right with you." But to walk away after I said hello? Just plain rude. And nobody wants to hear your personal conversations on the floor. Another employee, a female came to ring me up, but my experience there was just already ruined for me. read more

I called back and another associate said they had the item in stock. Kudos to the employee who actually went to check for the item in stock and I didn't end up going here because of the lazy employee that thought it was easier to say it was out of stock. read more
